    THIRD VOICE - Reflections USA
    Rating: * * * 1998
                                    PRIVATE
                                    Time: 45:04

    Third Voice are:
    Jeff Kearney - Vocals
Jason Pirone - Guitars, composition, arrangement

    Tracklist:
    1. Reflections (6:30)
    2. From Where You Stand (6:04)
    3. Mission Of Time (5:34)
    4. What We'll Be (5:34)
    5. Mystery (4:06)
    6. Never Know (5:38)
    7. Innocence (7:52)
    8. How It Ends (4:31)

Third Voice is a melodic progressive metal band with only two
members. The music is very technical and complex with reminiscent
to Dream Theater, Queensryche and Symphony X.

The bad production in combination with the drum machine and
sequencers makes it really hard to judge this album only by the
music. Both Jeff and Jason are without doubt talented and would've
fitted well into any established band; or else they should get
themselves a drummer. Jeff is a high pitched singer and the
multi-instrumentalist Jason are a good composer. So if there's any
band out there in need of a singer and guitarist, or if there's a
drummer in need of a job, contact these guys!

The highlights are the excellent "Reflections"; "From where you
stand" with very good and positive lyrics, probably the best track
on this album, "Mission of Time", the aggressive "What we'll be",
the beautiful ballad "Never Know", the longest track "Innocence"
and the last track "How it ends".

If it weren't for the production this would've been one of the
better progressive metal albums from 1998. If they put together a
whole band they might have the future in their hands. Give it a
    try!

Hmmmm...that's strange, the neck on my Ibanez RG570 has been perfect, straight
as an arrow, since I bought it in 1992. To this day it still plays
    beautifully, and I've never
eve had to re-seat a single fret. Low action, no buzz. Never one single
truss-rod adjustment. But then, maybe that is because I clean and oil the
fretboard every time I change strings
in order to care for it. To this day it's still completely road/stage
    worthy, and still my favorite
axe out of everything I've ever owned in the past 14 years. Maybe I just
    got lucky? ;-)

Hi Everyone, I'm hopping up on top of my soapbox. I, like many others are downright sick of seeing ignorant and selfish people who post in MIME or HTML format. It is unfair to us people that rely on the ytsejam to give us information. The posts are annoying and I totally scan through them because I DO NOT want to read all the crap that is attached. I figured that now that the Ytsejam has a new home, I would give everyone that ever wanted to know how to change the format of their e mails if they are using Microsoft Outlook Express. The process of changing from MIME or HTML format to Plain text is so simple that a blindfolded monkey could do it. That is why I am on this soapbox right now. CAN I GET A HELL YEAH?!!? I knew I could. To change from MIME/HTML to plain text do the following (this is applicable to the most popular mail progam, OUTLOOK EXPRESS) Go to the top of the screen with the program open. Click on Tools, when the menu cascades go to options, when the new menu cascades, choose READ. Then, go into the menu and click from HTML/MIME to Plain text, choose apply at the bottom of the cascading menu, or okay, both will work. You are now in business, and won't be pissing myself or many others off again. If you need further help in figuring this out, feel free to e mail me privately. I'm off the soapbox (for now). Hey again everyone...

There's a big update on the ftp server due to the generosity of some of my users (I've been damned busy). Here's what we've got:

Dream Theater - Instrumental I, Instrumental II, Instrumental III (Thanks to Steph) Led Zeppelin - 6/20/80 (thanks to Ed) Ozzy - 4/13/96 (Thanks to Diezel Weasel)

So we're getting a pretty good collection going here: Dream Theater, Queensryche, Led Zeppelin, Symphony-X, Savatage, Ozzy, Liquid Tension Experiment, Floyd, Rush. Drop by if you haven't already, and uploads are always appreciated.

A new feature that's still under development is the supporting webpage for the site. It includes instructions for connecting (fear not, it's cake) and downloading. I'm not going to put the IP address in the emails anymore for several reasons, including the fact that I get tons of email on connecting, so this web page takes care of all that. Please feel free to email me, however, if you're having problems after looking at the page.

    http://www.mindspring.com/~alpine1

New: There are samples of some of the most recently added shows available directly from the webpage. These are full songs, but they're the shortest songs in the show. Some people requested these to check out the sound quality on the newer shows.

As soon as I build another machine to host this thing (soon) there will be another major update, including full shows from Queensryche, Dream Theater, Savatage, King Crimson, Kansas, and maybe some other cool stuff as well. I'll be changing addresses and may have a bit of down time when I move in late October/early November, but I'll let you know beforehand. Keep checking in...

So check out the page, and enjoy...

    Take care everyone...

    Adam

Well, I can understand it. If you have info about the album, keep it to yourself, that's all. I know I wasn't the only person who had FII completely ruined because of all of the reviews posted here weeks before the album was even out. The Derek vs. Kevin wars were already in full swing a week before the album was released. Every song was available in some listening format >in full length< prior to its release. I ended up unsubbing from the list because the shit was so thick.

So, basically, I think moderating DT from the DT list for the time being is a good idea. If you'd like to have the album spoiled for you I'd suggest possibly hanging around alt.music.dream-theater or what-not.

And these lame rumors are just as bad as the truth, if not worse. So deal. -- KorgX3 pushes Matt of off the hill and begins a seven minute reign in peace. NP: Mullmuzzler: Keep It To Yourself.

As far as I knew, this was the case, until the recent post-LTE-chat chat with John Petrucci in Yahoo the other week. (Yes, it *really* was John.) JP revealed the band's future plans to *at least* remaster and redistribute WDADU; and when asked, said they *might* consider somehow overdubbing/replacing the vocals. I shit you not. For all we know, this could still never come about, but I personally like the idea.

I'm going to sign up for Columbia House because of their "Play" system (doesn't have those stupid cards to send in), which offers 15 CDs to begin with (and yes, I know what I'm getting into with the company). However, I have decided to increase my horizons somewhat in the process.

I'm looking for a good Yngwie CD to start with, as well as good FW CDs - I already know I'm ordering APSoG. I was wondering if anybody might know of any others that I could buy. So far, here's the list I'm thinking of getting:

    * DT: ACOS, I&W (wanted to get them for a long time and just haven't gotten to it) * ICP: The Great Milenko, The Jeckel Brothers, Forgotten Freshness 1 & 2 * FW: APSoG FW: Parallels, Chasing Time (if any FW fans suggest not getting any of those latter two, please tell me) * Star Trek Insurrection & First Contact soundtracks * Mozart's Requiem * Bach's Magnificat / Vivaldi Gloria Yngwie Malmsteen: Inspiration, Facing the Animal

    * = Definitely getting

That's my list so far; I may change it if I get any great suggestions. If anybody has any suggestions of any other good bands I should look into or mind-shattering albums I should buy, please let me know (via private mail, of course). I wanted to buy some Spock's Beard albums, but they don't have any on Columbia House. I also think I might get some Pat Metheny stuff and some Pink Floyd, of which I still own none of the albums.

Altogether, that's four additional albums I can purchase. I'd appreciate any feedback whatsoever anyone is willing to give me. Thanks in advance.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA - just kidding... :)

    One small problem:

The majority of the fucks who post in MIME are just those sending subscribe requests to the wrong address - thus, they're not reading the jams just yet anyway, now are they? :)

I agree. I mean, what age are they?

I've been subscribed to the ytsejam for a very long time. I think from somewhere like digest 800 or something. Usually I unsubscribe in the low periods between albums though because the jams can become quite tedious and boring to read then. I remember when we were actually afraid that DT were going to be canned before the release of Awake. I remember the excitement over the release of the first boots and the hype over the Subconscious project by Mike Bahr. I remember when we were actually starved for any bit of information over anything having to do with DT. I remember the true spirit and kinship of the YTSEJAM. I remember that because I saw that Michael Burnstein (sorry if I've mispelled your name) is still there, and was the one who I did my first 'big' boot trade with way back then.

Now everything seems to be gone. We have some morons who think they know better than us by witholding information. What's the use of that shitty mailing list now? It's clear now that it's no good for new and exclusive information about Dream Theater. Maybe it's still good for learning about the newest DT-I&W-Clone-Blah band...

The worse thing is people posting "Hey I know about the new Dream Theater album but you don't! No I won't tell you!".

The ytsejam mailing list is now an official, controlled and censored vehicle no different from the Official Website (c) minus the pictures.

.and you know what? I don't even want to read that information about the new album! I just can take it that people still try to play Big Brother in 1999.

You're joking, right? No information about the new album until it's released? Why? Do the band think that if someone knows the track listing before the album comes out that they won't buy it?

Obviously, I don't understand. Part of the reason I joined the 'Jam was to get news on the upcoming album. *sigh* Looks like I'll have to start reading alt.music.dream-theater...

Mike Portnoy has personally ordered the people who have this information to keep quiet, so basically you want us to stab him in the back and release all the information? If you're gonna get pissed, you should get pissed at Mike and not us. What you really should do is respect the bands wishes and hold on till the release.
