1) wonder if the jokers who fake MIME headers would get caught by Skadz's
new toy?
2) I work next to an autoclave (sterilizer)....screw warming my hands in the
fire, I'll just go stick 'em in that machine (when it's not being used, of
course) (total non-music point, just thought I'd share, because if you know
what an autoclave it, you should be, at least, smililng right now)
3) I have one of those original Ytsejam shirts, the ones Jason Giles created
and sold way back in 1995....if you have one, or remember the details of it,
he put "dream theater" in the old font on the back, and another line
underneath, in glow in the dark lettering.
It's been a while, maybe a year and more since i noticed the glow in the
dark quality of that last line, but last night I was doing my laundry in the
basement, and pulled that shirt out of the washer and was about to put it in
the dryer.
and I just glanced at it for a second, and saw that line, and remembered the
glow in the dark quality, and wondered whether, after 4 years, it still
glowed. So i reached up to the string attached to the light, and yanked. And
there before me, in the absolute otherwise pitch dark, glowed the words,
"let the light surround you..."
It brought a tear to my eye, it really did. Of course, upon further review,
the moment of sentiment was overturned and attributed to my ever-present
allergies. But it really was a momentary thrill to see that line glowing so
strongly, after 4 years.
4) the end of the year is starting to get really good for new music, what
with new Vai, the two fates side projects, the new Queensryche (which I'm
liking more with repeated listens), the new Vanden Plas (!) and of course
the new DT upcoming
but then there's the blindside album news, ones which you somemhow totally
failed to realize were coming up......the kind of things which goes from
being nowhere on your radar screen, to being tops on your most anticipated
upcoming releases list
I am speaking of a live disc by the band DISCIPLINE, called "INTO THE
DREAM," being released on Syzygy Records.
as soon as I hear back from Matthew Parmenter, I'll post ordering
info....based on prior commentary in this forum, this is an item I'm
guessing will interest a few of you.

I have a proposition for any interested parties...
I have, over the course of the past year, painstakingly
transcribed the bass parts to all DT albums from I&W through FII.
Since I am looking to add to my boot collection, I thought I'd put the
feelers out and see if anyone would be interested in swapping DT boots for
some INCREDIBLY ACCURATE bass transcriptions, e-mail me privately. Of
course I'd be happy with CD-R copies. I should also note that these
transcriptions are in standard musical notation-NOT TAB!

on thursday 9/23, at 6:30, bassist Gary Willis and guitarist Scott Henderson
of Tribal Tech will be giving a concert/clinic at Ron's Guitars in Groton,
CT. Both these guys are incredible prog rock/fusion musicians, and I know
firsthand that Willis has a lot of cool perspectives on bass playing to
share, so come on down! Look for the guy in the obscenely bright purple

Not to pick on Chris, but this is what is unfair to a
band. How can anyone give a realistic review of a
recording after one day?
I highly suggest that people give the new DT (or any
new recording) at least a week of listening before
giving out your comments (especially any negative
comments).

Here's a bit from an article/interview by Greg Rule:
"This is all real piano in this section, a Yamaha 7' with the lid open.
I wanted the real thing." Miking the piano was "nothing fancy. It was
basic miking." And, again, all the piano parts were overdubs. The
descending piano riff under the guitar solo "is a nod to Elton John,
octaves," says Derek. "It was all off the cuff. None of this stuff was
worked out. I just played it. I wanted this to be very organic-sounding.
It reminds me of Pink Floyd."
Hope that helped. Take care,

And that is okay. I like the idea of Kid Rock getting some play... he
actually is a talented artist. I have his album and I like it a lot, he can

(relatively).
Now about the eMpTV thing, is this going to be a regular thing or is
this just to shut us metal fans up for a while? Are they going to come on
the air with a full out apology for playing nothing but Top 40 Back door
Boys and fuckin' en sinc. If this is their idea of some sort of joke, I'm
not laughing and I'm not watching. However, if they do decide to make it a
"regular" thing (and not at 2:00 in the morning) I may have to watch. I'm
sure that they are looking at the Neilson ratings too. Of course, if we
don't surpass the rating for "the real world marathon 55" or "Road rules 47"

I believe there's somewhere betweena a few and several Holdsworth fans
on this list. It's been a while since he's put out a disc. Are you as
pumped for this as I am?!?!?!?!? And a tour to boot! :) Having seen the
guy play with Bruford's Band (circa the Ice Age), I can say that my neck
STILL hurts from the head tilting (picture a puppy looking hearing
something totally new) as I watched him play.
Yeah, yeah, there's already enough anticpation on here already, but see?
This is when people are in their finest of forms, when the 'muthah' has

Okay, avoiding an entire country is bad enough, but people who come undone
when the band (cough cough) does not play in their city... Well, they
should really double check the map. Of the world.
And come to think of it, Australia is definitely a lot worse off than

why can't Greeks? Three hours difference... :-) (We're not talking about
