I know you must be kidding. Steve, the person you must be rambling about,
just got to be one of the most brilliant human beings ever to have walked
the urth of entertainment. It's hilarious to watch him; as one of several
examples I could have mentioned, just watch whenever he says something like
"the croc rite here will have NO problem dragging me down to the bottom of
the river and let me drown, so I've to be real careful" and then jumps into
the water! What a man, his program is one of the most entertaining!

I couldn't see you get away with this... Steve power!

Oh, btw, for DTC, I have put up my pics from me and my friends Oslo 2000
tour... Some pictures from the first concert as well as the boys signing
stuff. Alas, my second film didn't make it at all, that had a lot of
overlooking shots from the second concert. And the pic of me and James also
went to neverneverland and didn't return. Have fun!

Oh, them pics are located at http://home.sol.no/~flail/oslo2000/

    Wahooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is ANOTHER Nightwish video !!

Click on the URL below and go to STATION 7 (you'll see it on the web page,
scroll down) and it will play the NightWish video "The Sleepwalker".

I right-clicked on it and saved the shortcut to my desktop and when I click
on it, it plays the video just perfectly. Gotta be online though.
The cool thing about it is that I'm on a slow 56k dialup connecting just
above 33k and the video plays perfectly with no skipping or cutouts.

    CHECK IT OUT.

This actually has absolutely nothing to do with the MP3 format. It has to
do with people ripping CDs without knowing what they're doing. Without
going into more technical detail, you have to track any WAV file (whether
it will become MP3, SHN, or whatever) on the "sector boundaries." There
are a few programs out there that will do this - thus eliminating the
little pop between tracks. Nero does it. CD2WAV does it. And a few others.

Great idea on the trees. I've been pushing for this for awhile but got a
mediocre response ("but I NEED the artwork"). Hehe...

Well, the big problem with MP3 is that even if you manage to get a
perfectly ripped wave file (or if you encode FROM a wave file with NO
silence at the boundaries), you'll STILL get a blip at the end of the MP3
file. Guaranteed. The reason for this is that MP3 encodes with a weird
format that REQUIRES it to be a certain file size or length based on the
original file. That means that if it's not PERFECTLY the right size
(we're talking in terms of BYTES, people), then it will add silence at the
end of the file to make it accomodate the format. I'm not sure exactly
how it works (I used to have the technical specs somewhere).

Since we're using my recording of this show, I'd like to make a comment.
Even though this show IS available at LitS (mad props go to Bogie and Adam
for hosting it), my copy is cleaner. I thought that since Bogie had such
a good recording that it wouldn't matter, but when I listened to it, I
noticed that my copy had MUCH better highs and was overall just cleaner.
It's not exactly perfect, though. There are some blips here and there,
but I'm not sure if they're from the actual recording or from my recording
software, but I do know that I tried recording the same songs that had
those little blips in them over again and the blips were still there. Not
to worry, however, as they do not in ANY way detract from the quality of
the show, and they're only in a couple of places.

Also, At the end of Video:Mindcrime we see that as well...Dr. X
tightening the tension on a rosary with a sheepish grin, walking towards
    Mary....

No you are wrong. During one the videos the word SUICIDE flashes. I think
and are pretty sure she killed herself. Think about it. You are a
prostitute hiding as a nun, you are in love with a drug head, and the bad
guys have discovered your plan to kill em. Whats your only way out? You
can't stay with anyone. So you kill yourself. Thats when Nikki came into
the room, and finds her dead. The police were called by Dr X to set Nikki
up, so DR x can get away, the bad guys win.

Actually, in some cases, that would sound kinda cool!
After all, does the main riff to Metropolis not sound
really cool played in D during home? Is there anyone who
owns a 7-string who hasn't tried PMU in B at least once?
And didn't it sound cool? :)

Actually, I wish DT would tune down a la Home every so often. It does add this really cool, heavy vibe to a
song; and if it helps James out live, then so much the
    better also.

I'm new to ytsejam, but I just had to throw in my 2 cents about mindcrime. I
used to think Dr. X did it until I thought about it some more and realized
that Mary did kill herself. Nikki was with Dr. X when she died, Father
William was already dead and there were no other major characters, so it was
either Mary or someone who just broke in and killed her.

I'm going Saturday night. My keyboardist and I are leaving NY about 1
or 2 in the afternoon, hopefully get to Baltimore around 6 pm, see the
show, and we're driving back that night. If we're going to get home
at 5 in the morning, you can get home at 2 in the morning. :)

Seriously, though, I have one album of just CGT, and one of the Robert
Fripp String Quintet (CGT, Fripp, and Trey Gunn on Stick). Damn. If
you're a fan of good musicianship, of any style, you owe it to
yourself to check these guys out. (10 hours in a car is optional. :)
And, of course, I have about a dozen albums or more with Levin on
'em. One of the tastiest bass players out there. (Side note: I used
to think that TLev was all that on the Stick, until I started taking
lessons with this guy named Steve Adelman. Holy crap. After two
lessons, he's got me doing bass lines with my left hand and riffs,
leads, fills, and chords with my right. Chords! And I'm a bassist!)
Anyway, I heard a fairly authoritative rumor that Tony will be selling
and signing copies of his new solo album, "Waters of Eden"(?). That
alone is worth the price of admission.

Anyway, if you're going to be at the Orion Studios show on Saturday,
come say hi. I'll more than likely be wearing a Mets hat (in deep
    shame).

Oh, back to the point of this post. Nadz: go to the show.

I'm not sure of the exact figure, but I know that it's far lower than the number of tickets they sell. :)

Does anyone know what the members of Toad the Wet Sprocket are doing. I believe that they split up. Are there any new bands or solo CD's from any of them. Please let me know. Jason

I'm sure some of you will think that these bands suck but....

Also, is there a Dream Theater show that is acoustic. Not acoustic dreams or any of the Prism stuff but a good quality show or set???

I don't know if these are even out there, but I have a few MP3 of each band and want a full CD. Any place I can buy or trade. LMK. Thanks again people. Jason

I just bought BLN tonight and I'm in love with it already! I can see it's going to be one of my most listened to CDs...

On the TSO website it says they're touring soon with BLN.. I cannot wait!!

I've just finished the book "Rocking the Classics" by Edward Macan, (mostly) concerning English progressive rock. It gives some insight into the history of progressive rock and the connection to psychedelic rock and the hippie movement, the actual style of the music, the lyrical and visual concepts, the sociology of the genre etc. There's also a chapter explaining the awful treatment the music has received from rock critics. The only thing I could have wished for would have been some mention of progressive metal (the book was published in 97). It makes very interesting reading though and I strongly recommend it. Btw, does anyone know of any other good books concerning the same subject? Are there any books about progressive metal? If not it may actually be a good sign, telling that the peak of the genre has not yet been passed :)
