I'm sure someone has already beat me to this, but
Neal's albums is simply called 'Neal Morse'. Like
most of the other Radiant releases, it's distributed
by Metal Blade, so you should be able to get it just
    about anywhere.

It's VERY good. There are six (or seven) shorter
pop-oriented songs on which Neal plays all the
instruments (except drums, which are covered by Nick
    D. - Neal knows a genious when he has hold of one) and
then there is the obligatory 20-minute-ish prog epic,
which if of course great. I'd say that none of the
shorter tunes would be appropriate for a Beard album,
but they're still Neal, and that should dissuade you
from getting it - far from it.

    Mike

    You're correct, sir!

(I know it was a Heinlein book and I did manage to finish Number of the
Beast, arguably one of RAH's most difficult works, so it sounds right.)

I couldn't agree more on these points. The guy who's always preaching that "Berklee is no fucking guarantee" is correct also. It's all about the person. A music college is just like a good private teacher - if you're not interested, don't talk, and don't ask questions, and don't practice and explore on your own, then of course you're not going to learn anything. I graduated Berklee in May '99 and I thought it was a great school. My biggest regret is that I was such a shy person until my senior year there - it was then I realized how much more I could've gotten out of that place. There are faculty there with some great experience - granted some are just washed up GB musicians, but some have actually done stuff. And there are TONS of resources there. They're very big on technology too, which is great. When I first went there, in fall '95, it was VERY jazz oriented on the faculty side AND the student side. Toward the end of my stay there though, there were a LOT more rock people walking around (forgive the very broad/generic categories of "Jazz" and "Rock"), and it was getting more respect. I personally like both - I dont' know why some are so snobby to each other. There are a lot of jazz people there who are very disrespecting to all rock styles, implying (or just saying) it's beginner's music ("Oh yeah, I used to listen to that stuff when I was a kid") and they for some reason think Berklee is a JAZZ SCHOOL. Then there are lots of rock people who don't take jazz seriously even - like it's just a bunch of wierd chords and crap ("Yay!! Play some more tensions!!"). It's called Berklee College of MUSIC. To me that means anything goes. There's a lot of pop there, too. It's funny - they both say the same things about each other's styles "It's boring, it all sounds the same" But ANY music you don't like is all going to sound the same. "Rock is just loud sloppy guitar playing with someone screaming out of key". Well one could also say "Jazz is just the same old cheesy chord progressions overloaded with tensions that make them sound even cheesier or just plain stupid. IT's all swing or funk.". It goes both ways. Just like there are people that see the Backstreet Boys as important to them is Dream Theater is to most of us. It's all about what one likes. People don't have to like everything, but they could at least respect it. So anyway. The point is, Berklee IS a good school - I have first hand experience. But NO, Berklee is NOT a guarantee, but very few things in life are. Just like life - it's what you make of it.

    Rock On Rob

Hey, if anyone has ANY Symphony X bootlegs in ANY form (Video, CD, MP3, etc) the bassist from their European tour is still looking for copies. We had a couple people who were going to hook him up, and a couple people who offered (though we turned them down gratefully, since these were the same tapes that the other people were going to dub) but no one has come through. Andy would really really appreciate copies of ANY of this material. You can mail him at andydeluca@hotmail.com but he doesn't have a computer, so he may not be able to respond anytime soon. CC me in the mail, and I'll make sure that he gets in touch with whoever it is. This is extremely important to him, so I'd really appreciate it if people could help out. Thanks!

Hey all, Well, I see that people are mentioning colleges. And some people mentioned Berklee. I'm at Berklee right now, its the best experience of my life. Not only did my playing improve, but I have met some really outstanding musicians. Its musicians heaven here, its great. And yes, its all about networking here. Like one of my friends here said, theres no turning back. You are out there and want to be noticed, this is the place to be if you want to be noticed. If anyone has questions, please feel free to drop me an email. Peace out, Aaron

Yes, he does - it's called "Neal Morse", it's available at most on-line stores (CD Now, CD Universe, Artist Shop, etc.). It's composed of seven pop songs (but GOOD pop) and a 25 minute proggish tune. BUY IT.

It's on Metal Blade, so you should be able to find it in stores.

Does anyone have the single for the song "Silence" by Damn the Machine, or know where I could find MP3 of it? There are two unreleased tracks on it, and I was thinking I'd like to hear them. K, bye.

Friends, familly and fellow jammers :

Just back from the Paris concert on the 7th (Friday) : " LA SEINE FROM A MEMORY " ;-) And what can I say - WOW.

I'm not any good at guessing croud sizes but one of the security said 6000 people !! (I thought it was 8000). The sound was very good at the sound engi's table, except for Myungs bass :-( But up close to the stage it was not as good especially at the start of SFAM (In November at Lyon it was much better).

Spocks Beard were good and wild, I think we'll here more about them soon. Portnoy even came on stage with a mask to play a little while with them !!!

Then came DT, and I'm still not down from my high. I saw the playlist beside the sound engi and it was the same list as in England.

SFAM was pulled off perfectly and it's so awesome to see it taken coast to coast like that (they aren't in studio for f**ks sake !!!).

While the last 'movie' part at the end of SFAM was on I was up again by the sound engi and he replaced the play list by 1 MUCH longer. I can't remember all the songs and some were in one of their wild medlys that only DT have the secret to. Here's what I remember : Peruvian Skies, Just let me breath, Caught in a web, The Mirror, Lie, Pull me under - surprise ;-) Take the time, Fortune in lies, Only a matter of time, Crimson sunrise, Acid rain (LTE). And more I can't remember (I was in my DT trance ...)

All in all DT must have played 2H45Mn, I don't know where they get the energy from. Mike P. was just so confortable (as usual), he didn't even look hard pressed on "Dance Of Eternity" John P. was in great form, he muddled only on the first SFAM solo, just smilled and went on to blow all of us away with his genius. John M. was perfect and as cold in his perfect execution as usual (how can I play my bass now, I can't touch it anymore ;-) Jordan was perfect too (he's to be careful with his megasolo which was, at the start, nearly techno-rock).

I could ramble on all day but I won't bore you all ... IT WAS JUST A CONCERT THAT I'LL REMEMBER FOR EVER, THANKS DREAMTHEATER !!

See ye, The Mad Dreaming FrancoIrish Cyco
