Yeah, or it might also be because Beethoven was a pianist. :P

I'm in some kind of daze I think...

did someone actually say that they had a free e-mail account that was
secure? Or that was even reasonably good? :) For 99% of us on this list
(yes, us. I'm using M$ Outlook Express as we speak :) our e-mail is NOT
    secure.

The Netscape thing: I would worry more that you have file space being gulped
up for no reason, than that it's a security problem. You're on 98, right?
Security is not a relevant issue... you have opted for convenience instead
of security. Sucks, but it's true.

If you really need security, you really need to host your own e-mail server.
Then all the responsibility is in your hands. Your ISP probably backs your
e-mail up on storage tapes or discs weekly, if not daily, so that you don't
bitch about lost mail if a server crashes hard. Another trade off.

As D-Man said, open source is your best shot for any semblance of security.
That's not an option for those of us who rely on professional hardware that
is not currently compatible with various Linux/Unix/BeOS type systems. For
most people, security is not even a possibility. But it shouldn't be a
concern, unless you're an asshole, starting trouble in public places where
those with a few tricks up their sleeves can home in on you and strike, or
you're a business that handles a lot of sensitive information, in which case
you have an obligation to your clients to hire a security nerd.

NOTHING IS LESS SECURE than freemail accounts like Yahoo etc. At least with
Eudora, Netscape and Outlook, etc your machine is off the network when you
sign offline (though any mail you don't dl is still on the network, there
aren't as many convenient points of entry on your ISP as with webmail
services). With Yahoo and the like, it's up all the time. I can't speak
from experience, but I would be surprised if yahoo was any more secure than
any other service. It's certainly not secure when considering that one
doesn't even have to be a hacker to kill someone's yahoo mail account. :)

Actually, I think he's talking about the processed vocal that ends the music
right before Nikki says "I remember now..." What that processed vocal says
    is "REVOLUTION!!!"

As someone who's participated in the taping and mastering of shows to CD for non-profit trading I gotta say this: feel free to sell this disc, but to call people that don't want to shell out dough for something you guys illegally obtained in the first place "cheapskates" is way out of line.

As a former bootleg buyer who saw "the light": I'm with Pye -- free the bootlegs.

Mauricio

One of your readers wrote in and asked why it is that Dream Theater fired Derek Sherinian. Truth is, the guys from Dream Theater are all married and pretty good guys, while Derek is just a pussy-hound. While Derek is out on the road, he visits the local strip-joints with a handful of backstage passes and attempts to play the "rockstar" handing them out to the strippers. The wives of the guys from Dream Theater got pretty sick of his "Shenanigans" (which by the way is his nickname) and they pretty much said he's out or we're out. Derek calls the wives of the guys from Dream Theater, Yoko ono, two-oh, three-oh.....(Ask him about that one on your 20-questions!) In bed, Derek has a Huge ego, and likes to talk dirty....that's pretty much it. All talk and the only big head sits on top of his shoulders! What a selfish prick. He has absolutely no respect or admiration for anyone (especially women) but himself. I often wonder if he saw his mama naked a lot? He was definitely a load his mother should have swallowed! P.S. Love the site! We've asked Derek to do 20 Questions, but he never responded. That's ok, because Stefan Adika is more known than Derek. Anybody who calls himself the "Gene Simmons of the progressive genre" needs to be hit with a slapjack.

Anyone who talks to me, knows that I am the absolutel biggest Steve Vai fan in the world, (Steve said it himself!). I saw Steve last Nov. in NYC, (and have some AWESOME pics from the show), I was front row, literally between his two monitors. I've never felt a closer feeling to a performer in my life. Steve just has that charisma that'll make you look right at him, (Playing with DLR helped that one). I was the same way at the show, having to constantly stare at him. There are certain parts to Steve's music that really hits me like nothing else in the world. I've never heard anyone play with more feeling or more passion than Steve, and to add on such an immense technical skill, he's just the ultimate guitar player, (IMO). The way he can get the guitar to do anything he wants is simply amazing to me. He never seems like he's struggling to do anything. Live it's just insane how he can play it all nearly flawlessly. Mike Keneally is another jaw-dropping performer. "Nonkertompf", his new record, (I may have mispelled the name of that.....), and is also the song he played during his solo, (While he was playing guitar and keyboards at the same time). I have a Fire Garden tape, from Seul, Korea, and there are parts where he's singing, playing guitar and keyboards at the same time....he's really incredible. Mangini is so much better live than in the studio. Thankfully Steve lets him crank the hell out of his bass drums, which he uses just like someone would use a tom or a snare, (Kinda the same way Portnoy plays really). His drum solo was amazing. I heard once that he can play 16ths at 250bpm...(I find this pretty impossible though...I have 4 fingers and I hit 225 tops, AFTER I've warmed up for about 4 hours and just worked at it and it itself, guitar, of course) Dave Weiner also needs some credit while I'm at it. He's actually used to be a poster on the Jemsite Forum. He's a really nice guy who landed the dream gig. He was an intern for Steve at The Mothership, (Steve's studio), and did all the oddjobs, (cleaning the glass inside the studio for example), and Steve hired him for the tour as a roadie. I guess Steve had him sub for someone during practice, and was impressed enough, told him to learn the songs, because there were plenty of empty spaces. Philip Bynoe is just an all around kick ass guy. Even though he thought I flipped him off at the show, he still signed my set-list, (which I later lost on the subway!). He's a really great bass player who doesn't get nearly enough recognition.

As for Eric Sardinas, I thought the first few songs were cool, but they started becoming hackeneyed, and I was really anxious for Steve. And because I was so close to the stage, he kept dripping sweat all over me. (And later on, last song, he spit beer WAY up in the air, having it land all over half the stage and the first two rows of people....uck). He's a good performer, and not a bad guitar player at all. haha, during "The Attitude Song", he fell over, (I think he tripped on one of Steve's Legacy cabs, either that or he was pulled to hard from the audience after he jumped), and I remember he lost his slide.

Ok, I think thats long enough....

    Warm Regards, Andy

Check them out. They are worth.

This album is IMO much better than "Apocolokyntosys". If you like the first album, than you will love the new one. If you didn't like the first one, than you should try the new one. So far "EROS & THANATOS" has beome great reviews. (Album of the Month in Italian Metal Hammer)

IF YOU HAVE LISTEN TO THE ALBUM, PLEASE SEND ME YOUR REVIEW.

    Thanks in advance.

Yep I agree that the album is pretty good and a lot better than the first one.

Thanks to the dude to posted the news of Watchtower playing in Germany and San Antonio. That's some truly amazing news, seeing as how they haven't been together in a decade!

Who knows? Maybe they'll get a REAL singer and write some new stuff! One of the few bands out there which is by all accounts far more technical, note for note, than Dream Theater!

That prompted me to see what the status is on Spastic Ink's new CD (Ink Compatible) and it has been coming along quite well. (For those who don't know, Spastic Ink is Ron Jarzombek's current instrumental band - INSANELY technical - well worth the effort to find it). It's sleighted for release later this year.

Also, there's mention of a re-release of Spastic Ink's first CD (Ink Complete) with a 24-minute bonus track at the end. It should be out next month, but no details on where to get it yet.

    Later!

Well, i dissagree...maybe live, while he's playing the drums, it sort of sounds bad, but in a controlled environment like the studio (on Fii/SFam and specially Transatlantic) he is more than adequate, hell i really like his studio vocals. I think that in the next studio album he should keep singing backup, hell bring him on top of the mix! (like some transatlantic parts)..

Speaking of the giant, I just watched The Simpsons, in that episode where Homer decides opening home office for an Internet company. Next thing you know, Bill Gates comes to his house and wants to buy him off. Homer agrees and suddenly the 2 bulldogs with Gates start demolishing the house. :) LOL

You think? I'd actually prefer it if they started using Mike (and John P.) *MORE* on background vocals in the studio. I liked the way it turned out on SFAM. One James is enough - I'm not a fan of the overdubbing they normally do in the studio for vocal harmonies.

Mike's not a bad backup singer. In fact, on most of the "official" live recordings, he's more on-pitch than James, making James sound bad. He just doesn't have the opera-style voice (which is not necessarily a bad thing all the time). I wonder what his voice would sound like when he's NOT thrashing his 8 arachnoid arms and legs all over the place behind a drum kit, blending every time signature known to man?????

I was surfing around the Star People site after all of the hubbub lately, and I found this on the Star Girl sub-section:

"Lorenza is also a much-in-demand session musician and has appeared on albums by artists as diverse as Tricky, Jon Anderson of Yes, Stevie Nicks, Silverchair, Kitaro, John Tesh, Sheryl Crow, and Ben Folds Five."

Huzzah! She played with a member of Yes! I say that confers instant legitimacy.

That is, until you see the part about John Tesh. That's just so sad. Oh well... (Actually, that last comment isn't meant as a reflection on Tesh's music, which I have never heard and may very well be quite good. Rather, it's on Tesh the man from ET, whom I have come to loathe. Just to clarify.)

You can read all about the most attractive violin player I saw on the tour (sorry Allen Sloan ;) ) at

    http://www.lorenzaponce.com/index_bio.htm

That's all. Back to work... <sigh>

And I agree with you ! And definitely on TransAtlantic...

I think he has developed his singing lately, don't know if he has actually trained it, or has it just improved due to its use, which is actually nice point of view to ponder on, I mean, what if he HAD been training it early on... Could he be a GOOD singer instead of adequate ?

And oh, I think JP is another thing thou... ;-p (kiddin', if someone didn't catch that smiley-which-says-it-all)

Yeah definately!! Maybe in the future he could sing lead vocals on at least one or two tracks in the DT albums, that would definately be fun (in the heavyer ones!!! imagine that, mayb eDT having a breakthru hit with none other than MP on vocals acompanying a heavier track) His vocals on transatlantic are great IMO.. if he's reading well , i hope he is!! Maybe we'll see/hear more of his vocals on the next dt effort... as for JP, well i dont think he's that much into the whole backup vocal thing..so i guess he just gets it over with and thats that.. i see jp as a shy guy..anyone else think so? (i havent met him in person)
