You are all missing the most obvious answer to whether Cole knew Malcolm
was dead or not. Every ghost that Cole sees is wounded or scarred, be it
a gunshot, burn marks, slit wrists, or the sickly skin of the girl. Every
time Malcolm is in a scene in the movie, we are seeing him from his own
perspective, and he believes he is alive. Throughout the movie, Cole
would see Malcolm as the good doctor sees himself at the end of the film
-- with a bullet hole and blood all over his clothing. So Cole obviously
    knew that he was dead.

My apologies to the two people on the planet who have not already seen the
movie at least twice. Don't blame me, the topic said SPOILERS.

That reminds me of a particularly humorous part in Empire Records:

    <clerk answers phone>
"Empire Records, open 'till midnight." <pause> "MIDNIGHT!"
    <clerk slams phone down>

On a similar note, there is a local chain called Schnuck's which is open
24/7 year round, but closed on Thanksgiving day. I have a friend who used
to work there, and he had numerous calls that went like this:

"Thank you for calling Schnuck's, how may I help you?"
    "What time do you close?"
    "Thanksgiving."

Ah, well. I guess I'll make a point to skip seeing it then for awhile.

Almost nothing is more upsetting than hearing plot spoilers about a
movie you were really anxious to see. No worries, my damn mother did
that to me all the time. :( Hopefully, this won't be a string on my
finger making me remember this more than a couple of days from now.

I have a MP3 question. I have a few MP3's that have dead space 8-10 seconds worth at the front or back of a song. Sometimes it's talking or other crap. How can I edit a MP3? How can I take off the last 5-10 sec. or so of a song? I know that this is possible, (I'm sure Korg knows : P) I just don't know how. Sorry to be off the subject of DT, but I have spent to much time trying to figure this out. Any help (post or private) would be great. Thank.

The only way that i know of , is to decode the mp3 to wav again, using the winamp disk writer plugin (i think) and use a wav editor to cut out the unwanted sections then encode to mp3 again.

For those of you who play Everquest (along with the 200,000 other subscribers), the creator just listed his five favorite bands in an interview on www.eqvault.com.

Among them were Dream Theater and Fates Warning. Cool, huh?

I, too have heard of this strange phenomenon. In fact, I bear witness to it, on one cold night.... in December, 1995.... in New London, CT...a strange looking gentleman (in a japanese DT shirt if memory serves...) walking back and forth past the line of shivering fansicles....calling out the name of the famous kicker, and the substantially more INfamous bootlegger....

But that was long ago, when these old bones were younger. That stranger was an old man then....by now, he must surely be dead.

    Ok folks

I've made a page with the Nightwish video for you all to get. For the first I have the unzipped 38 MB mpg file and then I link to the 50megs place where I made a website with the zipped files. So you can choose wheter you want to download the big one or the smaller ones.

    The link is http://www.kom.auc.dk/~thok

Click on Sound Files which will get you to the page where the full video is. There is also a link for the smaller files on that page.

Mikko, did you just store those files on 50megs.com or did you make an index.html file to link to the files? I read in the signup contract that 50megs would not allow their space to be used as raw storage, there would have to be some homepage there as well. Now, I made a small homepage for this thing, so I hope it will do.

Let me know if you have any problems with this!

Among his favorites is Melissa, a cute high school freshman who spends her evenings listening to Creed and Dream Theater-- and chatting about sex online with adult men."

One question: Is this an actual music video, or is it a recording of a live show? Because I noticed something really funny about the keyboard player: There aren't any cables coming out the back of his board, not even a power cable! Plus, the drummer is playing one set of drums, and the set of drums in the music is (without a doubt) done on an electronic set.

Just thought I'd point that out for anybody who didn't notice. I couldn't get a clear look at the guitar player, but it looks like there isn't a patch cable coming out of his guitar, either.

You'd think people would THINK of these things when they record videos.

Now that just plain kicks ass. :) No wonder I always liked the music in EverQuest. Of course you can't go so far as to say that this is "mainstream" coverage. :) Most of the people I played with on EQ had heard of, liked, and/or respected DT. Kinda weird. Yup, that's exactly what I would've suggested, too. hehehe.

Other than that, I know of no other ways. MP3's seem to be like ZIP files for music. You can't edit the data while it's compressed. You just have to decompress it, change it, and compress it again. If anyone knows of a better way, let us know. :) -- KorgX3, MP3er extraunordinaire!!!

It's quite obvious that the clip is all lip synched, except maybe Tarja's vocals might be live, I have 2 clips on video, not sure which one you are talking about, but both are mimed.

Why do you listen to dream theater if you think this. Dream Theater have always made silly, over the top, completely adolescent music. Its because in the end they are a rock band and rock is adolescent and often over the top. Take a look at Images and Words. You have the required silly lyrics about medievil stuff (Pull me Under), teenage poetry (Another Day) and a bunch of other nonsense (Metropolis, Under a Glass Moon). You've got the ridiculously over bloated instrumental sections of Take the Time and Metropolis. Check out the bit in Metropolis where it goes from playing those Every Breath You Take chords to a completely masterbatory B minor run. Its like they've just pasted it in with Pro Tools. Awake was a bit better but still by no means as modest as a rendition of Georgia on My Mind or Brandeburg Concerto No 3. Of course theres Falling into Infinity but that comes with the most immature one of the lot of them (in a non- musical sense)- Derek. Just put there music in perspective- you might find you hate it more!

    Hey, y'all...

I tried to order Michael Romeo's "The Dark Chapter" from MoreMetal.com. (He's the guitarist of Symphony X) They backordered it and finally gave up on trying to find it for me. Anybody know another reliable place I could find it? Also, is it worth the effort? Any reviews would be appreciated.

P.S. While I'm posting, I might as well plug my current eBay auction: A gently used 3-cassette Aerosmith "Pandora's Box" set. Full of all kinds of rarities for the old-school rocker who hasn't bothered to get a CD player yet. There's only one for sale at eBay currently, so you can't miss it. Later!

    Hey jammers

I've recently heard Shadow Gallery's 'Tyranny' and I kinda like it. Do you have any comments on the band/record? (Besides James participated on one song...)

    Cheers, ABM

    Hi again!

Well, I checked out your page, and the tracklisting to Live & Alive Vol 2 does in fact read:

Track list: Take the Time Wait for Sleep Learning to Live Metropolis Part I (C. Dominici) Afterlife (C. Dominici) To Live Forever (C. Dominici) Guitar Solo Only a Matter of Time

So my question is still unanswered. I DO have these three songs on cassette labelled Live & Alive Vol 2. Who knows anything about this?

I was just looking through the FAQ and read the section on Ytsecon. I cant believe nobody did that this time around!!!! Man, I would love to help put something like that together!!!!!!! Lets put our heads together and see what we can do! I'm in South Carolina, and we have some nice places around here we could do it, like Myrtle Beach or Charleston! I'd be willing to go just about anywhere on the east coast to go to one though. Lets talk about this. Four years is way too long to go between cons. Later, Ultraking

Hello, this probably seems totally inappropriate for this list, but I've been looking around for good music colleges for after I graduate from high school. I live in New Jersey, and want to stay in this general area of the country. I was wondering if anybody could recomend any colleges?

Sorry for the lack of DT content....
