I was at the Chicago show on the 12th and i've come to realize that a LARGE
number of dream theater fans just plain ol' suck. I don't understand why a
crowd can't groove to the music and have fun without pushing, fighting, and
yelling obscenities at eachother. Not only that, but i couldn't even hear the
first 20 minutes of the show cause of the screaming and i was right up front.
I don't know if others agree with me here, but it's gone too far with people
forgetting how to have fun and just enjoy a show without feeling the need to
mosh into people. I figure, go to show and enjoy it on your own level, in any
way you like as long as it doesn't disturb someone elses. This older
gentleman next to me kept getting smashed into by some people and he clearly
wasn't appreciating it. I'm not saying don't have fun, but some people really
need to learn how to chill out and enjoy a concert. Hell, if it takes jumping
on the band wagon and going to see a Phish show to see how to let people ALL
enjoy themselves, then do so, cause i'm pretty sure DT wouldn't want to have
pissed off fans in the crowd fighting with eachother, that's ridiculous. Oh
well, kick ass set, and the people wre good for Spock's Beard. Well now
proceed with telling me that it's not the Dream theater fans that suck, it's
    me.

    Bah, now that is exagerating!
He was so pissed off (with good right and reason tough) that he went to

Hah, I agree with that one. I don't remember what the name of the place was in NYC when I saw DT there, but there was a big infinity sign on the menu. It was also raining on the streets of New York City. I was amused :)

This is why I went up to the balcony level at the 9:30 club earlier this year for the Metropolis 2000 show. Great view, no pushing. We got in early enough to grab excellent spots on the floor, then saw the open space on the balcony and changed our minds. It's called "growing up." I'm in my upper 20's now, and my friend was in his mid 30's. You kinda grow out of moshing and just want to see the band after a few years.

    > Well now

It's not you. Or at least, it's not JUST you. Also went to see the Summer Sanitarium tour in Baltimore this past July. Had no interest whatsoever in getting there early enough to get on the field because I didn't want to get crushed. When I was 18, that was fun - kinda. But it's sort of lost its appeal.

Hey, I have really been out of the loop with the jams lately, but I
figured I'd let anyone know that I'll be at Ozz Fest in St. Louis
tomorrow (wearing a DT shirt, most likely, of course :), as well as
the Iron Maiden show at Sandstone in Kansas City Aug. 20
(probably wearing some sort of DT attire as well), so if you see me,
    say hey :).

I've been to 5 DT shows now, and not once have I ever been involved in or
even seen a fight, or an argument, or a large amount of cursing...and all 5
shows have been in Philadelphia! Simple solution to your problem...don't get
so close to the stage. If you do, you're gonna get pushed around and have
people singing loudly in your ears whether you like it or not. So many
people want to get as close as they can to the band, they just plow their way
    through other people.

Some time ago, somebody posted a URL of a rock band that dressed in Star Wars
outfits. I checked the site out at the time and thought it was pretty cool.
Of course, being the moron that I am, I forgot to save the URL. :-) Would
somebody be so kind as to pass it my way again??

heh.. i was at the chicago show as well - and i thought it was fantastic, but more on this topic - i was 2nd row center with all of my friends, (i was the guy with the carvin hat on) and there was a bit of a confrontation. it seems that these 4 kids walked up from the back and took their spot right in front of the couple that i was standing next too. this was obviously not something that's fun to watch, so we asked them to leave. unfortunately, they didn't quite cooperate. in fact, they actually tapped my friend on the shoulder and told him that they were going to get front row - so when "home" started playing, there were more than just thrown elbows.. it seems that this fiasco almost ended in someone on the floor. thanks be that eventually everyone cooled down a bit, but you're right, this was the first instance of a real fight that i'd seen at a dream theater concert - and it did take a bit away from the performance. but then.. i went to see them at the riverside the next night ;)

I went to the Chicago and Milwaukee shows for this leg of the tour and i have to say that i was more than impressed. Especially in Milwaukee, although DT put on a slightly cuffed version of the setlist (no LTE, etc) it was the best i've ever seen them live before.

but spock's beard was something else.. ryo, the keyboardist, is absolutely insane.. and my apologies to the rest of the theatre, for interrupting the concert (gave him a starburst, he came over and chatted.. neal was like "ok, and back to the concert.." ;P

but the riviera was the strangest place i've ever been to see a rock concert. my seat was in the pit - i didn't find out until later what exactly that meant - the orchestra pit. turns out i was in front of the front row, everyone put their drinks on the stage. so that was spectacular really, to be that close. the strangest thing though had to be the fact that you could buy popcorn and that they had a full bar set up for drinks. this place is fantastic, they should just do milwaukee every night ;)

i showed up there about 1:00, expecting a line, so when there was none i got a chance to talk to the techs unloading all of the equipment, and managed to get an after show pass - which was even more fantastic to have conversations with the band members themselves (if anyone else was there afterwards, i was the kid in the carvin guitar hat and the green dream theater shirt).

anyone, just wondering - did anyone get this show recorded ? *duck* i'd really like to have it as a memento of the experience ;)

    ciao, dave.

This question should be simple enough...

What is the difference between hard rock and heavy metal? It's something I haven't had a totally strong grip on and thought you guys might be able to nail down the differences, if there are any.

    Thanks!

MARS 2112 is on b'way, in the low fifties, at the base of the paramount building. It's cool but a bit expensive...

I saw we all meet at Krispy Kreme, on 23rd and 8th. So what if it's 20 blocks south? Them is good eats!

So i'm sitting at my desk at work, decked out in my new mmmmmmmmAIDEN shirt. Philly show was great. I had a QR HitNF shirt on, so nobody would have recognized me, but an hour after the show, at a diner 30 minutes away, I saw a guy in a met2 shirt. And the day before at the same show, there were some girls sportin' megadeth and 'crue, for the show following our maiden one. mmmmmmmmmmAIDEN!

Bruce was great as always. He clearly chugged buckets of crack before the show, because I don't know he can sing and move like that for 2 hours straight. And he really tore into the guys that throw stuff on the stage. at one point he stopped singing and said "we've come here to play music for you, you f---ing c---!". that got some huge applause.

Later, intro-ing Number of the Beast, and pissed about censhorship and stereotypes, he called Tipper Gore "Tipper Dumptruck". That was the pinnacle of the evening for me.

All three geetarists were great, jannik is really good at entertaining everyone when he doesn't have anything to play, lights 'n' pyro were fantastic if a bit cheesy/spinal-tappy, but this is maiden and if you don't like it then we'll come over and bite your wussy head off, mmmmmMETAL!

Queensryche did a solid 45 minutes - I don't care for lady wore black, or the new stuff obviously, but otherwise all good, mostly mindcrime. Geoff strained on some high notes but he still has it.

I didn't really see halford. I was busy lugging my 500-gallon-jumbo-super-gulp to my seat.

I wore my DT tour t-shirt last Thursday to two different events. First was the Ohio Players (giving a free concert sponsored by a local station), where nobody commented on the shirt [not that I expected it], then later I went with a friend to Annapolis to see her friend's band, where two people commented on the shirt, one of whom had his own jersey. Extraordinary.

Yeah. It was playing fine (though it wasn't syncing) then I tried to fast forward, and the video was fine (after several minutes) but no audio. I gave up. When I have more time to spare, I'll watch it straight through.
