    Everyone:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put a spoiler warning IN THE BODY OF YOUR POST.
I missed it in the subject, paged down, and there it was. The end of
the last paragraph of this post happened to land right at the bottom
of my screen. I hit space, there were a few blank lines, and all of a
sudden, a set list. Blank lines aren't enough. *Please* leave about
    25 to 30 blank lines, with a string something like "* * * SPOILERS * *
*" every four or five. Thanks.

Let me get this straight. If you buy the Japanese version, the regular singer sings in Japanese, and if you buy the US version, the same guy sings in English? Dude, that's messed up. Reminds me of that one album DLR did in English and Spanish.

How the hell do you plan to be inconspicuous pointing an SM58 at the band?

Besides that, MD is lossy. If you're booting to trade, spend the extra cash and get a DAT. (You're welcome, Adam.)

You, uh, realize that that's not really Frank Sinatra, right?

Are you talking about the John Myung Yamaha line? If so, please tell me what you think of it. I'm starting to think about getting another bass.

"Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity." They may not have any metal fans on the staff. They might all be freshly-minted college graduates, who don't even realize that Kid Rock's using a Metallica riff. They might even think that current Metallica is metal.

I'm not saying it's right. I'm not saying we shouldn't all write to that newspaper and complain. I'm just saying that it may be laziness, rather than agression, that led to that article.

What *I* can't believe is that CBS hasn't picked up on this. Think about it:

"One hundred seven Russian sailors. Trapped on a nuclear submarine. At the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. Who will be the last one left? Tune in this fall for... Survivor II! Who will be voted off the submarine first? Vlad the commo officer? Pitr the weapons specialist? Perhaps Aleksandr the pilot. Tune in Tuesday at 9 to find out!"

Don't look at me in that tone of voice. You think no one at CBS has thought of this?

Nope, it has the usual liner notes in English, with an added little booklet in Japanese.

    >< A blurb from the Philadelphia Inquirer's Weekend section for 08/11/00:

"Metal Weekend In this, an accidental two-day gathering of heavy metal marauders whose best works are way behind them, it's only fair to say that these men are preaching to the long-ago converted and that we should be lucky it's all happening to someone else. Sure, Iron Maiden may still sing of a 'Brave New World' (Columbia), but the newness of the rough-hewn British band stopped in 1982 with its classic clatter of 'The Number of the Beast'. The Washington-state grown Queensryche took up where Iron Maiden left off. Both Anthrax and Megadeth looked primed in the mid-'80s to take over Metallica's thrash metal throne. But the groups seemed content with remaining the princes of speedmetal and never the kings. This leaves Motley Crue, who, despite having a new CD - 'New Tattoo' (Beyond) - and despite losing Tommy Lee, should still be arrested for continuing on after 1983's 'Shout at the Devil'. -- A.D. Amorosi" ><

That guy gave Britney Spears' first album 4-stars and said it was "good song-writing", so there ya go.

Im just glad they never promote DTs shows in the Inquirer. God knows what they'd say.

Oh my god, that's bullshit. I hate it when people try to group people and try to catagorize them. Kinda like racism, it's never correct. I don't care if the term "general" or "typical" i used. If you want an example of this just go to the Perpetual Motion Conference message board and read some of the postings. You will then see that the number of brainless morons greatly outweigh the educated musicians.

Actually, I think Symphony X doing an all-Japanese album is pure genius! I mean, after all these years, English-speaking countries have been catered to while all of the other countries are forced to rock along to an album in a foreign language! I have no doubt that this move by Symphony X will be their best-selling overseas album by far and that it just might inspire other artists to get their act together and start writing albums in languages other than English. It's such bullshit the way one language is held above other languages. Ideally every band should have an album each in English, Spanish, Japanese, German, French and Italian (for our friend Ricardo). Every day the world is becoming more of a "global community" and it's about time that our music follows suit and who better to lead the way than the innovative Symphony X???

Thankfully the American version of the Japanese-sung "V" will include an insert in English so we can follow along with Russell. I was able to get this "American version" of the album with the English lyrics in the liners, and in the middle of the lyrics is apparently a story telling of all the characters in the album. It's in Japanese though. *Sigh*.

Where is my Japanese -> English dictionary when I need it???

There is nothing cooler than DD 5.1 except for DD 6.1! Not that it will ever make it in a home theater setup as a standard. As for DTS, it is slowly getting more support on DVDs but those usually lack features due to the minimal compressing used to encode it. Plus only a trained ear, and total home theater sound buff can tell the difference between DTS and DD 5.1. Gimmie features!

As for applying this to audio: a couple of things are in the works. DVD audio.(probably never see the light of day) and something new. Dual Layer CD's, which might have been what was mentioned in an earlier thread. Sony and Philips are developing these dual layer write-able drives. Each CD holds 1.3 Gigs. Like the Dreamcast discs. This could be used to hold both audio formats for an audio CD. Who knows.

    -c

    > Also, Sony's offering on next-generation audio, Super-Audio-CD (SACD), is a high resolution audio format which is still 2-channel (obviously, not everyone believes multi-channel is the be-all, end-all for music reproduction in the home).

If the world wants to become a "global community" then it better get off of its lazy ass and speak one language. :p It's kind of hard to have a community where people speak two different languages. Trust me, I live in one. -- KorgX3 would like to live in NYC. Land of 1000 languages and just as many fights per day because of it.

I think all of my Symphony X CD's have the Japanese INSERT in the case... By no means is the entire thing in Japanese. The main CD booklet is of course English, but it has a smaller one in Japanese in the middle that is separate. So don't get all excited about it :) It's been this way on their releases for a while now.

    >> It's such bullshit the way one language is held above other languages

Disagree, totally. English is the language for the "global community".

    >> Ideally every band should have an album each in English, Spanish, Japanese, German, French and Italian

    Totally disagree. That is insane.

Hi all. I just relocated to the Clearwater / Tampa area and wanted to get some info. I live in Clearwater...are there any good local music shops? Places that carry boots and some Prog. stuff as well as the regular stuff. Are there are good local clubs to see some live music? If anyone can help that would be great. Just moved here from the San Francisco area, and I am missing my old CD shops (like Ameba in Berkeley). Thanks, Jason

I am not sure where Nightwish are now but I am sure Tarja will celebrate this day! Wish I could say Congratulations to her personally! But maybe I'll meet the band @ Tavastia next month. If someone else on this list is going to that show let me know! Considering that Nightwish pops out from backstage before each show there's a strong possiblity that I get to meet them!

I'll write some kind of review of the show to this list once the day comes.I can't wait!!!

    Hey All ...

So, boring stuff first. Almost 1300 people on the list, though that will probably drop when I do bounces this weekend. MIME posts WILL NOT show up on the jam. Don't post MIME! I am actually going to go through the rejection list this weekend and send everyone who has tried to post MIME a message so that they know why they aren't getting through. I definately have seen a number of you doing it multiple times, I'm suprised you haven't asked me why they aren't going through. I know I owe a few people mails about stuff, hopefully I will get to that all this weekend too. If you need to get in touch with me send mail to skadz@dreamt.org NOT ytsejam-owner@torchsong.com.

I finally got to see Event (formerly Mystic Fishook) a few weeks ago. Wow, these guys really do kick ass and they pull the stuff on their disc off REALLY well live. Lots of stuff from their upcoming album, which sounds really nice (as does the new album ;) (as always, if you want to get on the Event mailing list, send mail to eventowner@dreamt.org). They were actually opening for Kings X, who were amazing as well :)

Anyone thought about making new Ytsejam shirts with the new address? Haven't had a new one in a bit and as far as I know, we have nothing with the new address.

Other than that, I seem to be back reading the jam again, be afraid :)
