This may require spoilers for some of you Maiden/QR fans.

    spoilers.

    Okay. Now we're rolling.

I just wanted to say that somehow I managed to get to see the
Halford/QR/Maiden gig in Chicago, and hell if Maiden didn't slice and dice
and spew all over Queensryche. :) I have been a QR fan for a long time,
but I hate their last 2 albums, with maybe one exception. Just lame music.
Luckily, they played a best-of set on this tour. Did a decent job, though
Tate wimped out on some of the high notes. Kelly the Klingon (their new
guitarist) got to play 2 solos the entire night. The band was solid, but
    not noteworthy.

    UP THE IRONS!

Iron Maiden ruled. They are Iron Maiden again. There is simply NO
replacing Bruce. He even made some of the Blaze bullshit music sound good.
QR is dead. Long live the Maiden!

OK... seriously... they have 2 albums out, "Black Light Syndrome" and the
new one, "Situation Dangerous." I've been waiting for the new one to get
here from cdnow since it shipped 9 days ago now. The first is excellent,
though very jam-based; most likely, how much you like the album will turn on
your reaction to this sort of music. The individual performances themselves
are wonderful, and Levin's brilliance is showcased much better than in the
    LTE albums.

    Hello people,
OK, I was at the Dallas, Texas DT show with Watchtower, and honestly, I had the same reaction as Welihozkiy's odd friend. Baboons with flame throwers would have been a far better use of my entertainment dollar. On the other hand, my friends and I spent most of Watchtower's set just making fun of them, so I'm inclined to believe that I may have simply not given them a chance, especially in light of Michael Pruchnicki's overly rude comment. So please, I ask you without sarcasm, explain what I'm missing in this band. I've tried to approach them from a Spinal Tap angle, I've tried the Ween direction, I still don't see it.

Well, I got a pair of TD/80's about a year ago. they were about $60-70, and they sound really great. The design blocks out a lot of ambient noise(my mother nagging you, for example) and they respond well to all frequencies.

The best thing is Koss's outstanding warrantee. All you have to do is mail in your broken headphones with a $5 fee, you'll get a repair/replacement shortly - you don't need a receipt or registration card or box or anything. If a Koss headphone exists and doesn't work correctly, Koss takes responsiblity for it, period. Beat that!

My last pair of Koss TD/65s didn't work properly, but I didn't know about the warranty, so I took the headphones apart (I basically broke them) to find out what was wrong with them. I don't think Koss would have replaced them after that, so I bought a new pair. Oh well, it was only $27. And Josh: I think that the TD/65s are even better than the TD/80s; they fit tighter to your head and the ear cushion is much more comfortable...

Yup. That's where they got it, AFAIK. Also, from what I understand, the rythmic cymbal pattern at the beginning of the song is morse code for YYZ. Personally, I always thought that's what they named it for. Was it coincidental? Intentional? Yes. -- KorgX3 likes his Turkey with potatoes n' gravy.

Hi KorgX3; It's Kemal Akbay from Ytsejam digest. I actually didn't get what you meant by that "rebel" and "empire" thing. Do you mean I'm being an opposition? If so, hey man; I've been a DT fan for a long time -like many of you in the Ytsejam digest-; and when I learned that their performance here in Turkey was confirmed; I was the happiest man alive! And I felt so disappointed when the show was cancelled and so I wrote that mail. Well, Mike Pornoy explains why they couldn't come; and it's a shame for the promoter in Turkey but hey,................. it still doesn't make sense to confirm a concert and cancel it. Is this the way things go in music business? If so; I'm sorry; in both ways. ýf it seems like some problem to perform is likely to occur; how come a show gets confirmed? Not only for DT, but for any performance. Sorry if this is the 2nd time this gets sent, I'm not sure if the 1st went through...

I received my import of "V - The New Mythology Suite" today. I've been listening to it all day, and I'm still in shock. This does more than surpass The Divine Wings of Tragedy. This album, IMO, eclipses Scenes From a Memory in every way, shape, and form. Individually, they are performing at their best, especially Pinnella and Rullo, who have both taken a more prominent roll in the music, as opposed to their earlier stuff, where at times it seemed these guys took a backseat to Allen's vocals and Romeo's guitars. Speaking of which, Allen's vocals are as powerful as ever, with lots of choir stuff (like the intro to TDWoT), and Romeo once again displays that he is indeed king of neoclassical shred.

The orchestral arrangements are breathtaking, at times sounding like a movie soundtrack. John Williams would be proud. The story is an interesting twist on ancient mythology, and is pretty easy to understand (the track-by-track story synopsis that is in the Japanese lyric book helps too).

This album, once its released in the US, will become a classic. They definately the one band most deserving of more coverage in the US, and I think they'll get it.

My only regret is listening to this album BEFORE the Roseland show...now Scenes is going to sound weak to my ears in comparisson...

    Hey jammers,

I hope to be among the first in line on Wednesday ... I plan to arrive at the venue by 1:00pm the LATEST. If you'll be arriving later on and would like a spot in the front, all you must do is bring me food. ;) I'll be wearing my EB/MM Petrucci tee and a tan baseball cap, don't be afraid to say hello!

    Peace, Brian

Well, it appears that shortly after the release of Moving Pictures, one of the big whigs at the Toronto airport (who was already a huge Rush fan) decided to change the international call letters of the airport. They wouldn't allow him to use "RUSH" or "2112"... Nope, had to be 3... he figured that "GED" was maybe too obscure, and Alex's real last name would have used up enough letters for about 7 airports so he stuck wit the name of the tune "YYZ". Which we all know what that is an acronym for.. nudge, nudge, wink, wink...

BTW, I was at a NAMM show in the early 90s and I saw a guy wandering around with a Toronto airport luggage tag on his brief case (nice big red tag with "YYZ" in a striking 36 point Ariel font), so I asked him if I could have it. And without a second's pause, he said, "Oh, are you a Rush fan or something?"

OK OK; yes I KNOW that I'm going to be flamed for this... But what IS the story with that? It just sounds fucking crap. I can understand them wanting an abrupt end, but it really does sound like a salvage job on a broken reel.

    So wassup?

I quite like her. I mean, OK; so she hasn't played a note on any of the Corrs studio albums. But live, she's pretty tight, does a good job of holding down the rhythm section, and rarely manages to fuck up badly. And damn, she hits those things really hard! I mean, she really is the proverbial Lars Ulrich!

I just think it's really unfair when people slag her off; I mean for Christ's sakes, you can't compare her to MP or someone like Simon Phillips; but then again, not many people CAN be compared to those two!

Yay for Caroline Corr. She could do with lessons, sure, but she's good at what she does.

Incidentally, if beautifull girls playing drums turn you on, mate, you're shit out of luck. She's the only one I can think of. Still, I take your point - think of the stamina!

Regarding people saying that most reviews of the Fates: Disconnected have been positive...

I'm also on the Symphony X mailing list: "TEOF", and it seems that about 90% of the reviews written there about the new Fates album have been NEGATIVE. Mostly about how the album is uninteresting in comparison to APSOG, and then you get your Fates purists who haven't liked any of their albums since No Exit.

Personally, the jury's still out for me. APSOG took a LONG time to grow on me, but when it did, BOY did it!!! I'm thinking that over time I'll like it more, but probably not as much as APSOG.

    > anybody ever seen the blue man group show?? i saw it a couple of > years ago > in new york. i remembered that it totally kicked ass, i never saw > anything > like it.

I'd say my "Blue Man Group" experience in Chicago will go down in history as my top five funnest evenings within the confines of a theater. If you live in a city where these guys play, you are MISSING OUT!!!

I cannot and will not describe what goes on in these shows. Also, buying their CD also would detract from the experience. Just see the damn show already!

"My Arms Your Hearse" - kick ass album, horribly embarrasing album title. My friends had a hey-day when they saw it. I just smiled, pitying their ignorance as to what lies within it.

Yeah, I don't know if you've been on this list for very long, but you will have a TON of people (including me) agreeing with you there. Ocean Machine's "BioMech" is one of the greatest albums ever. Period.

He is without a doubt, one of the few true geniuses in metal today.

These would be my guesses as to some timeless prog classics...

DT - Metropolis, ACOS Fates Warning - Ivory Gate, APSOG (One could argue that it's one song) Symphony X - The Edge of Forever, The Accolade Queensryche - Suite Sister Mary Superior - Why

Note, they're all prog-metal and they're all over 7 minutes. When it comes to prog-rock, you'll have to ask someone else.

I my mind, the following songs are "timeless" in their own right, though others may not agree for one reason or another...

The Gathering - On Most Surfaces Iced Earth - I Died For You Lemur Voice - Akasha Chronicles Meshuggah - New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Corridor of Chamelions Pain of Salvation - The Big Machine Primus - Antipop Tool - Forty-Six and Two Devin Townsend - The Death of Music Type O Negative - Love You to Death

    > OK! THE OPENING > BAND...WATCHTOWER..........................................sucked, > And I > mean big ones. > > They were like early, early Judas Priest...but much, much worse. > They played a 1 hour

Hmmm - too bad you wrote them off so quickly. You were in witness to a once-in-a-lifetime reunion of one of the fathering bands of prog-metal. If you can handle the singer, the backing music is mindblowing.

I wish I could have traded places with you, buddy!

I do have one question to pose for you all. I have COMPLETELY FALLEN IN LOVE with a couple of mp3's off of Dark Tranquillity's "Projector" album. This guy's baritone voice POSITIVELY DRIPS with emotion!!! That album is DEFINITELY going to be in my hands pronto! I hear they have a new album out now: "Haven". Can someone compare and contrast those two albums? More or less clean singing?

    Thanks, guys and gals!
