What's going on before the show Wednesday? I thought I saw some plans in the works but I haven't been following the jam as closely as I should be.
There was talk of some 2112 place...what was that? Are people meeting there before the show?

DT cancelled both of their shows in Turkey. Why???
Why do they "CONFIRM" the shows and then "CANCEL" them?
Why do they "CONFIRM" the shows and then "CANCEL" them?
Why do they "CONFIRM" the shows and then "CANCEL" them?
Do they have a reasonable answer to their fans who are very impatient and
willing to see them here in Turkey?
Whoever took out that idiotic possibility;
"They cancelled because of earthquakes."
that's the funniest thing I've ever heard!
Oh well then; Enrico Iglesias has more guts than DT, as he had a show a week
ago, in Istanbul. :)
Whatever, I'm happy for those who have/had a chance to see Dream Theater
Live. I'm sure that's a fu**ing blast!
My greetings to our neighbour country, Greece; who had a chance to see DT
live couple months ago in a Festival this summer.

Here's something that may or may not have been mentioned before, but
several of us (even some of us old-timers :) are meeting the night BEFORE
the concert (that's the 29th!) in NYC for a little get-together. We're
meeting in the NoVoTel lobby at 8:00pm, and it'll last until who-knows-
when. For more information, head over to
http://www.mikeportnoy.com/roseland/
and sign up for the mailing list; then send a message saying that you're
going! The web page also has all the information needed to find the place
as well. See you there!

>< >Well here's a bad review: the first and last songs are boring and
pointless;
No way... Who says that the first and last tracks are meant to be "songs" in
the traditional sense anyway? ><
Exactly. They're just...there. The first and last *tracks* just don't do
anything for me. Maybe if they'd cut out those two tracks in favor of one
more full song, it would be a better album. And they don't do much of a job
of creating a mood, IMO. Now APSoG had mood.
>< >Still Remains has it's moments but fails to deliver.
Fails to deliver what exactly? ><
Well for me, it fails to be the epic that a lot of people say it is. It fails
to be the keystone of the album. The one track that makes it all worth-while.
It's no Metropolis, no Ivory Gates.

A reverb that sounded like a large room would have been acceptable.
What they have presented is a VERY mechanized sound with a constant
effects ringing hanging in the background.. ISH!

Listen to the vocal passage on track 5 between about 7:50 and 8:33...
It's clipped and compressed to death!

Last february i saw the Dixie Dregs open up for DT. I was totaly blown away, i had never really heard much of their stuff before, and it was awsome. Just seeing tehm was worth the ticket charge. The next day i ran to the store and got several of their cds and fell in love. I have been listening to them a lot. Now to my point i guess. I just went back to school and got kicked out of independent music study for playing guitar instead of tuba. BS!!!! SO they stuck me in ceramics with this art teacher no one has ever liked. My cousin was voted most artistic in the senior class and this teacher almost failed her. I was angry. So the other day in class a few students next to me are talking about the Dixie Chicks. I mention the Dixie Dregs and the teachers yells out "Who said that?" I tell him it was me and it turns out that its his favorite band and he really loves prog. A kind of music no one has even heard of in my school. Now the teacher loves me and we talk about music all the time. I can't see why no one ever liked him. Im gonna like this class. so i guess im just saying thanks to every one on this list who has influencened me weather you ment to or not. JJ

Hey everybody. After a long hiatus I've returned to the jam. I was here from #1016 until the mid 3000's. I see the bandwidth hasn't slowed down any. You might remember me from the Eve cover that KorgX3 and I did or I met some of you at the SF show in March of '98 (Jeepers was ever a good show). So I've been up in Toronto for a couple years livin' big city life with no computer but now it's good to be back to blessed Idaho and my blessed computer. Is Rick Terry still on the list? He was the only Torontonian jammer that I remember. Music content: I was able to see Phantom of the Opera a couple times while I was up there, featuring everyone's favorite, Paul Stanley, as the Phantom. Call me crazy, but I really enjoyed his performance. His voice was obviously subpar compared to everyone else's (especially a girl named Melissa Dye who played Christine who had the best female voice I've ever heard), but his cackles, laughs, et cetera were much better than all the other Phantoms that I've heard. Did anyone else see that show? Good stuff. Just to throw in my opinion, I think SFaM is DT's best work to date, except for JR's horn solo, which still has me confused. I'm sure that topic's been beat to death though so that's all I'll say. It's good to see that the Most Frequent Poster list has been discontinued. I never did get past #8 or so anyway.

"Believe me..we are just as disappointed... We love coming to play in new territories...
The short reason is that the promotor did not prove to be reliable and come up with any of the technical, financial and promotional requirements that is mandatory to make a Dream Theater performance possible....

Yeah, the vocal melodies are 'enjoyable' and have that 'singalong' quality, which makes a strong contrast to the dark atmosphere of the music. A 'torrid beauty' perhaps ;-) But I agree this makes the longer songs easier to remember.

to all those who think that the "too much noise" factor in new fates warning is a bit too much and not done up to par, then i suggest the following. Devin Townsend. Ex steve vai now Kevin moore is a master with soundscapes. he is a keyboardist. check out Guitarist/keyboardist Devin Townsend's albums. hell, any of em. he re-invents sound. well, so to speak. yes, hes definately mastered the whole soundscape thing. and he continues to push the envelope as we speak!
2 key albums to download: Devin Townsend - INFINITY and Ocean Machine
unbeleivable soundscape mastery here. unbeleivable. appeals to both prog and metal fans of all shapes and sizes here folks.
key tunes from those albums are: TRUTH, WAR, ANTS, SEVENTH WAVE, LIFE, FEUNERAL, AND COLONIAL BOY. ahh hell, theyre all mind blowing.
heck this guy was steve vai's vocalist a while back. he left to persue his own insanity and here it is in all its glory!
check him out my friends and be prepared to come back to ytsejam and rant and rave with ecstasy guaranteed!!

*************** SPOILERS**************************************************
*********************************SPOILERS********************************
****************************************************SPOILERS*************
I shal begin by saying, there are no words. No letters of phrases of sentences can even compare to that show.
That being said....hea it iz
OK! THE OPENING BAND...WATCHTOWER..........................................sucked, And I mean big ones.
They were like early, early Judas Priest...but much, much worse. They played a 1 hour set...one hour to long...nuff said
It was dark in the room, my indiglo watch read 9:36 and 21 seconds...It's 8 minutes fast then, these tiny little TV's flickered on, and Bang...They broke into Overture 1928, banging away. Sheeeeeeattttttt! The f***n' drum set was rocking the entire stage. Petrucci was playing to the crowd like a Guitar God...wait he is. Oh man, I just stood there, mouth open, maybe even a little drool. They broke right into Strange Deja Vu, Labrie came running out...the whole 1000 people there erupted, I had a little wax in my ears and I still had to scream at the top of my lungs, just to keep ear drums from bursting.
OK, THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!!! Not only did they play the album, they are parts in Srange Deja Vu, that they actually surpassed it. Rudus....YEEEEEAHHHH!!!!!! I had no idea that fingers could move that fast. John Myung, was like 5 feet tall and his fingers were twice as long as mine. We were about 150 feet from the stage, maybe a little less, there were only like 1000 seats, it was incredible. It was like twice of the size of a movie theater, oh yeah.
So anyway, they rock out on the first 3 album songs, and then cut straight into Another Day....That was when I fainted for the first time :). Rudus did the Keyboards that souded exactly like the fricking Sax. Amazing...Then...PARADIGM SHIFT...in its entirety. Thats right, the walls shook, the seats came loose, and some drunk guy in front of us puked...WHAT A NIGHT!
They cut back into the album, blaring through Fatal Tragedy...they skipped Through My Words..cest lavie. Beyond this life, they put a cool filter on his voice, yea boy!!!! All I saw behind the drum set was like one of those Budda stautes with the six arms...or maybe he was just moving so fast I saw six. Lights went off at the end of the song, came on and there was LaBrie in the middle of the stage, on a little stool, singing Through her eyes. I cried (sniff sniff) The drunk guy almost puked again, then took his shirt off.
AND THEN....Guitar solo....yeah dog. Boyz fingaz was flyin'. Then came in the keyboard....fainted for the second time!!!! Then came a ton of Songs from awake...like 5 or 6. They didm Caught in a Web, Innocence Faded, and Lie...oh yeah and I just stood there, eyes as big as fricking bowling balls watching the screens as they focused on each player...Then YEAH! KEYBOARD SOLO!!!!! He did jazzy kind of stuff, he did classical, he did...SHIT HE DID EVERYTHING!!!! Then they went back into Scenes...
HOME! that's right If I could live at this concert year round I would. This place was my f'n home. LaBrie was amazing. After all of the stuff in Dance of Eternity and Every other frickin opera that he sang, he still hit notes that must require a vice grip and a huge set of lungs.
Then...lights went low one more time and The Spirit Caries on came up...Then cut into the biggest fricking ROCK OUT! They just wailed on Pull Me Under and then Ended with Metropolis Part One...HOW IRONIC!!!!
So they say goodbye, we are all screaming, this little tiny theater we are in is about ready to fall apart, and then it happens...THAT'S RIGHT...CHANGE OF F'N SEASONS. Oh yeah...and the drunk guy stumbles down the stairs and passes out. The rounded it up...and I passed out...My body limp and all of my energy gone, sweat on my brow, my mouth dry from screaming my lungs out...I still don't have a voice.
So they left and we were ushered out. We came out in front...it was 1:10 AM before we left, no soap on the autographs. But there was a seat next to me dogg, and yo butt is gonna be planted right there next time they come around. I wish I could say more but my mind is fried...absolutely fried. THAT THING WAS RIGHT ON PAR, OK...:) MAYBE EVEN BETTER THAN G3. THE SHOW WAS AMAZING...AND THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT.
My boss...who went with me...and I just talked about how amazing the show was the whole way back to get my truck, which was like and hour. All I could say was...nigga, that was off the g'tip, old school, and I be fried...Just kidding I didn't make that much sense.
Anyway bra...gotta run...word to ya moms...Dream Theata's da bomb
