Yes, I can 100% confirm that Zak is the singer on EoT. You really can't go
wrong with any of the Zak albums: Edge Of Thorns, Handful Of Rain (probably
my least fave out of the 4, but still great!), Dead Winter Dead, or The Wake
    Of Magellan.

Hope this helps a bit... Matt T.

Someone asked on the last jam about the price of DVD players, since he apparently only wants it for the DT DVD...

First of all, let me just plug DVD... if you are into movies and home theater, DVD is the shit. I got into less than a year ago, and I already have over 150 movies on DVD. The picture quality is phenominal, even on our decade old 25" TV, and with the right stereo the sound will make you never want to rent VHS again. I could go on, but I won't. There are plenty of people who will back me up.

Anyway, if you are looking for the cheapest solution, get a DVD-ROM drive. You can pick them up online or in stores from about $50-90 for a 6x to 10x drive. If you have a reasonable video card (8MB+ 3D card such as ATI Rage, nVidia TNT or GeForce, 3DFX, etc) you should be able to play back DVDs using just the drive. If your video card isn't up to snuff, for a few bucks more you can probably find a DVD kit from someone like Creative that will include a hardware MPEG playback card to handle the video processing for you.

Your next cheapest solution is getting a crappy DVD player in the neighborhood of $150. Sampo (who??) makes one, and there are a couple of other no-name and generic brands in that price range. Don't expect anything but the basic playback.

If you have more to spend and you have or hope to have a home theater system, then do yourself a favor and invest in a good player. You don't want to spend $150 now only to ditch it in half a year for a better player. You have a couple of months until the DT DVD is released, and you don't have to get it the day it comes out (HA! Like anyone on this list is going to be sitting at home that day), so save up your money in the meantime and get yourself a player you will be happy with. $400 should get you a good single disc player. I highly recommend Sony... they have a ton of features, and their players are pretty high quality. For a bit more you should be able to pick up a good 5 disc changer, and if you are really ambitious, you can double the price and get yourself a 200 or 300 disc player (if you need help justifying a 300 disc DVD player, remember: it plays audio CDs too).

I have recently adopted an eletronics philosophy which basically says, "don't spend money on intermediate products." I have a 19" TV. I want a 56" widescreen HDTV. Those are about $7k. I *could* spend about $1,500 on a nice big screen TV, but I won't. I'm going to save that money and live with the 19" until I make the leap to the TV I *really* want. That is what I recommend here as well. Don't buy a cheapie $150 player now when you could wait a couple of months and get a nice $400 one.

My final recommendation is that if you don't have DVD, find a friend who does. Go over to his house and ask him to put in some reference quality examples. Watch and drool. Then you will think twice about buying Sampo. :)

If you have any specific questions, email me privately. If you have any questions that you think the list could benefit from, post and I'll keep an eye out.

OK, dooshbag. Shows what you know. I almost never post here. Some people
may not know, and so what? So much for making a comeback. IN fact, just to
prove you wrong, my original request said nothing of my blindness in it,
and I have made several posts in months that had nothing to do with my
blindness. I am explaining the situation for the people who don't know and
who tell me to just buy the DVD. That's like telling a deaf person to buy a
CD player for God's sake. So, stop wasting everybody's time with your lame
posts that have nothing to do with anything, except for you to see your name.

It's no biggie really... just wanted to point out that stuff
mentioned on that site isn't really official. Although I know the webmaster
is a responsible guy and pretty much has the same Metal Blade contacts as
me so he only posts info that's correct. He was just able to register

there are audience boots of :

    Cinncy
    Washigton DC
    Phoenix
    and
    Oakdale

The phoenix boot was on napster for a while, and that is probably where
    it is.

There is a remastered version of that show coming out 4 sale : (stictly
cost, no profit at all) www.spacedye-records.com I believe. I know the
guy real well he is a super honest guy. Plus there is a chance of a
bonus track that I miay have hed a hand in, but you will have to order
    it. hehehe

Savatage-I love all the cd's ecept i don't have fight for the rock and
probably never will. The band went from :

    Death metal
    pop metal
    melodic metal (streets)
pop type metal again (see all i bleed)
    Heavy prog
    Rock/opera type

great change. I guess I label em as progressive. Any band that can
progress from songs like Holocaust and Scream murder to the Wake of
Magellan is great. But wait only 1 guy that did holocost is still in the
    band so I dunno.

Someone once described Savatage as "not really a band, but an idea"

I liked that. All the crap with Criss, and all thew new mebers keeps it
    intresting.

On the new cd al played 2 solos i think (maybe more) so he will appear on
that, and the new singer is not there at all. What Zak had begun to
    record Jon redid.

feb will be a great month:

    Sava/ fates tour (fingers crossed)
    Dt dvd
    Sava album
    sava dvd
    mullmuzzler 2

    Some other stuff too.

    Im done

    Kurt
    NP-Chris and Kevin excellent adventure.

I know 2 people that have the roseland show and actually a 3rd guy who
has it from one of those 2 guys but no go. Andrew what if we offer em a
threesome or some kinda circle jerk to get it.

I'll have to second Pat's comments here... home theater is highly
addictive... proceed with caution (especially to for wallet). ;-)

If you want to get a good DVD player for cheap, check out this
Panasonic player (after all the rebates and stuff it is about $129):
    http://www.ivorygate.com/ubb/Forum17/HTML/000036.html

Also, a great resource for tons of home theater info head to:
    http://www.hometheaterforum.com

I have recently adopted an eletronics philosophy which basically says,

I know what you mean... I have a 27" TV, and am currently eyeing
some of the big screen units... Not so sure how long it'll take HDTV to
take off here in the US, so might as well wait (the TVs will drop in price
quite a bit by then anyway). Although, Costco has a 56" (I think) Toshiba
    for $1149... hmmmm.... ;-)

Just for the record, Damon, I wasn't telling you to go buy the DVD. I
know you're blind, and I know how stupid it would be to buy something you
couldn't use. :) What I WAS saying, however, is that regardless of your
position, there probably won't be many people who would be willing to help
you out, merely for the problems with copyright and the fact that the DVD
is going to have ACoS on it.

I suggest waiting a bit for someone you know to buy the DVD, split the
cost with him (or something) and have him record the audio to CD for
you. Or perhaps if you contact Bogie, he'd be willing to make an
    exception for your... individual... drawbacks.

That's strange a lot of you thinks or used to think Streets sucks(ed).
Streets was my first 'tage and I loved it and still do. I bought each
subsequent cd and loved them all. I also slowly bought up the back
catalog and liked that too, but not as much as from Streets forward.
I even bought Fight for the Rock, even though I heard it sucked and it did.
About the counterpoint thing, it was great at first, but after 3 albums,
I think it's getting kind of old and repetative. Also, some of their
meledies seem somewhat recycled on Wake of Magellan. I'm hoping for
a fresh, new, kick-ass Tage this year!

hey, thanks JM! im glad i could amuse. my obsession with metropolis part 2 (i
almost forgot the name!) has been stymied by the aqcuisition of a bach CD my
brother gave me for christmas. he described it as "the bombdigady" and he was
right. ive listened to it about fifty times already. by the way, its the
brandenberg concertos 4,5 and some other stuff. i plan to get some more of
this german guys stuff. hes pretty good. i was a bit miffed however because
there were no drums on the cd and no band pictures in the booklet- just some
commentary about some classical music junk. out!

ps: yeah, mike, i AM a master of disguise but my cobra (whatever mercenary
position i held with them) days are long gone. i just graduated with a BS in
nursing and searching for jobs in the great western states. anyone live in
colorado or arizona? send me some email if you know anything about the state
    of nursing there. thanks.

Andrew, I am not against buying anything. I probably would split the cost.
I have a friend with a dVD player and I could probably hold him at
gunpoint. I just wanted to know if there were any other mp3 files available
other than the phoenix one I saw on Napster. Besides, that file is huge,
and even with a cable modem, chances are I am timing out or being cut off
before it finishes. And the sound quality is painful.

Screw that, get a DVD-ROM for your computer. It plays cd-roms, so you
can toss your cd-rom player if there's no room. And it plays regular
DVD's, so if you're only going to get the occasional movie DVD you can
watch it on your computer screen or ouput it to your TV. All of this
would still be cheaper than a console type regular DVD player. Then when
the recordable DVD machines are cheap enough, get that in a console
version for the tv, and you'll have yourself a sweet little pirating
    setup. :0

    Also, the PS2 plays DVD's.

nobody knows. Anyway, it was very old... definitely pre-C.B.S. </p>
<p>And God looked down upon it and saw that it was good. He saw that it was very
good in fact, and couldn't be improved on at all (though men would later try.)
And so He let it be and He created a man to play the bass. </p>
<p>And lo the man looked upon the bass, which was a beautiful 'sunburst' red,
and he loved it. He played upon the open E string and the note rang through
the earth and reverberated throughout the firmaments (thus reverb came to be.)
And it was good. And God heard that it was good and He smiled at his handiwork.

<p>And more time passed, and, having little else to do, the man came to practice
upon the bass. And lo, the man came to have upon him a great set of chops. And
he did play faster and faster until the notes rippled like a breeze through
      the heavens. </p>
<p>And God heard this sound which sounded something like the wind, which He had
created earlier. It also sounded something like the movement of furniture, which
He hadn't even created yet, and He was not so pleased. </p>

      story.) </p>
<p>And God heard this - how could He miss it - and lo He became Bugged. And He
spoke to the man, and He said, "Listen man, if I wanted Jimi Hendrix I would
have created the guitar. Stick to the bass parts." And the man heard the voice
of God, and he knew not to mess with it. </p>
<p><font color="#FFCC99" size="+3"><b>B</b></font>ut now he had upon him a passion

the commandment of the Lord, and he played a frenzy of high melodies and blindingly
fast licks. And the heavens rocked with the assault and the earth shook, rattled

but really they shall hate it. And they shall tell you you're ready for your

if you want to play your fancy licks you shall have to sneak them in like a

    Hey guys and gals,
My band, "Infinity Minus One" has a new song up
on mp3.com featuring our new singer, "Denis J. Lanza". Its
called, "At The Doorway Of Existence". Its currently #1 on mp3.com's
progmetal charts, and our other song, "Face to Face" just hit #1 in
the prog rock charts (it might not be listed yet though). I know the
Lo-Fi play of At The Doorway... had some problems, so we re-mastered
the tune and fixed the phase inversion problems we encountered. But
Hi-Fi play sounds good. The mix could of been better in area's but we
mixed it fast so we could get the song up by X-mas, we are re-mixing
at the moment so there will be allot tighter sounding mix up soon.
But tell me what you think, or not...hey its free music :)

    Take care,
               Kairo

Yep, the Sony PlayStation II plays DVD's and you can even get the remote
that hooks up with the attachment through the game port in front.

Yes. ACOS from Phoenix on napster. Just do a search for Dream Theater, and
in title field type live, or even a change of seasons live or something to
    that effect.
