not to mention players like Kurt Hammet and Jimmy Page are in there.. Yngwie is nowhere to be found (if you give hendrix and page credit for how much they did for guitar you gotta kick down for yngwie).. no petrucci who's actually written collums for the fookin magazine (i'm told).. anyways.. i could gripe about how useless guitar magazines are but i won't.

at least fred dirst got some credit.. glad to see they can apreciate SOME tallent..

Influence means a lot in these lists. It means nothing if you aren't remembered.

I don't have a problem with their position, just the people in between. Kirk Hammett? Please. He has no business being on any sort of list like this. I also have a problem with Hendrix being number 1. But this list is mission impossible anyways, rating all guitarists on the same scale...

Hola! The jam is back I see...

I had a blast at the Santa ana show last night.
The set list has already been posted, except it wasn't listed which LTE
song was played. That song was most of Paradigm Shift.

Anyways, DT was in FINE form. James was for the most part, right on with
the vox, and the band seemed very tight to me. As for Spock's
Beard...WOW! I only have Beware of Darkness by these guys, and I was MUY
impressed with them. They seemed to be having fun onstage as well...with
all the jumping around antics they were doing heh.

After a GREAT show, I finally found the jammers I was *supposed* to meet up
with beforehand at the local TGI Friday's (the "official" Jammer meet-up
restaurant, in case you weren't aware). Those jammers were: Mike Kizer,
Cheryl (rockercat), Rick Audet (spine), and Lisa Palma aka
"Jessie". Thanks guys/gals for hanging out with me last night! You're all
welcome to visit me here in the San Bernardino area whenever!

See ya Mike and Cheryl saturday night at the L.A. House of Blues show!!

have ya tried lowering the pickup a little further away from the strings? It
seems like a pickup problem more than anything else. If all else fails, you
could always go through the fun fun fun experience of buying a new 7 string
    pickup that sounds better. :)

I tried replying this to your private email instead of the jam, but pine won't

There's quite a difference between being a fulltime band
member and doing a few guest appearances. On APSoG, Kevin
didn't even write the melodies, he just played them...

Electro/acoustics usually go direct, but no serious electric guitar player will go direct if he/she relies on crunch/distorsion/overdrive/fuzz/buzz :) John uses Shure SM57 dynamic mics and it sounds *groar* :)

    Hi all,

Just a quick question to set my mind at ease. I've noticed some strange glitches on the vocal track for OiaLT CD - specifically during Voices, but also noticeable on ACOS II. It sounds like James' mike cuts out, only very briefly, but often enough to make it noticeable. It just seems to be the vocals that are affected in this way.

So - is this just my pressing of the CD that is playing up, or does everyone's copy do this?

    Cheers - Coby.

    hey everyone!

    >BTW, check out Guitar.com's list of top 100 guitar players of all time. The >results are mostly sickening. I think talent is much more important than >influence, but obviously I must be in the minority. Considering Kurt Cobain >outranks Joe Satch and Eric Johnson among other greats... And John Petrucci >isn't even listed...

I recently took allok into Hit Parader magazine , and they tried to make this list of the 100 best musicians and 100 best records of the last millenium". I think that DT's "images and words" is one of the most influential records ever (have you heard Symphony X's "divine wings" or shadow gallery...) I also think that at least Mike is the best drummer aroud and John Petrucci is not only one of the best guitarists, but one of the most complete musicians ever... What do you think, guys?

BTW Do you think DT is going to reach Brasil sometime this year??

I already posted this once, but it was in the course of the 'jam being deleted, so probably only a couple people saw it...

John was using an Ernie Ball guitar (MUCH different than his Ibanez). For any and all interested about its features, here goes...

standard MusicMan Silhouette body and headstock 24-fret rosewood fingerboard (tiny dot inlays in the standard configuration, unlike the JPM's offset dots) deep blue flamed maple top (VERY pretty) no pickguard H/H pickup configuration, presumably the same DiMarzios as in the JPM series, mounted directly to the body piezo pickup in bridge for the acoustic parts STANDARD trem (not Floyd Rose) no locking nut, but has locking tuners 3 knobs (presumably V/V/T, but the third could be something else entirely) 2 switches (one 3-way LP-style pickup selector, the other switches between magnetic and piezo pickups)

I believe that one of the MM guitars he used MAY have had a Floyd Rose Sustainer system - he was getting all sorts of wacky harmonic feedback during "The Spirit Carries On" that I haven't heard anyone get without a sustainer system. Maybe that's what the third knob was for... ;)

    Hi guys,

I just wanted to let everyone know about my band since we play progressive rock music in the style of Dream Theater/LTE. The music is more like LTE since we're an instrumental band.

    Check us out at: http://www.geocities.com/collaboration_element.

We have excerpts of audio files that you can download for your review.

    Thanks,

    Greg

Howdy. I am a lurking JAMMER. I just want to say, reading this shit is better than..... nah, never mind.

My spouse and I will be attending the Milwaukee & Chicago shows in another week. WOOHOO. I know there are others doing the same. It would be sweeeet to meet some of the fellow jammers.

My main point to this list is to say THANKS. I have purchased some of the SWELLEST (Gee Greg, we shouldn't play football in the house) music since reading the jam, and reading the Pixie on the Planet list (kidding). Dave, wonderful job. I thought your explanations were great. It was a time consuming project no doubt, but I think MANY people have enjoyed your efforts.

After kicking all of the BOYS asses at fantasy football this season, I treated myself to multiple CD's I knew nothing about. The newest list includes:

Conception: Flow (because it was #1 on the Pixie list) 2 THUMBS UP Spock's Beard: Beware of Darkness (Due to the Dave list) Haven't heard it yet Winter Rose (DUH!) Steve Vai: Ultra Zone (I have a couple Vai discs) Gordion Knot (Due to Dave's list) Heard it once at work. Not enough to have an opinion. Sounded interesting Symphony X: Divine Wings of Tragedy (Dave raves about them) Vocalist is awesome. Like many of the songs. A bit monotonously heavy for my taste when listening to entire disc. I'm more of a Yes type chick, normally. (mind out of gutter now). It is a far better experience on the home theater in the basement rather than the car.... I need to listen to it more. Savatage: Wake of Magellan (Due to the list again) I LOVE THIS DISC. This is so my style. Pain of Salvation: One Hour (Jammers are always playing this disc) Most bizarre thing I ever heard. I can't take it from the CD player. It's awesome. Pain of Salvation: Entropia (It just called to me for comparison) - haven't heard it yet. Can't get 1 hour out of my player. Shadow Gallery: Carved in Stone (Tyranny is one of my fave discs. I love the combo of great songs with meatloaf style ballads. It kills me. Jeff Watson newest solo effort (Jammers mentioned Steve Walsh & he is one of my favorite vocalists): 2 thumbs up on this also.

Along with some choice DVD's, that is about all. It will keep me busy for a long time. I needed the change.

Kim Howatt NP: Conception: Flow (unfortunately very quietly, so I don't disturb others at work...)

Good question... Is there a list of fan club subscribers somewhere so I can even know if my membership is still active? I just want to clarify whether I'm in need to sign up again before it's too late.

Also, btw, Is Marillion.com pretty good? I was rather diappointed with Radiat10n and would appreciate a small review of the album. Itchy? :) -- KorgX3 is the only one who really knew me at all. NP: Phil Collins - Against All Odds.mp3
