Has this station been secretely resurrected and I haven't heard? When I
went to a Fates Warning show at The Whiskey in 98, there were KNAC
posters all over the place, and I even remember flyers at my high school
asking for signatures to get KNAC back on the air. I've heard of the
web site a few times but never bothered looking. What's the deal? I
mean, I remember turning to 105.5 one day to find mariachi music instead
of hard rock, and I think this was when I was in junior high.. it's been
a while and the station is still trying to make a come back?

Oh, btw, when my goth friends did the Marilyn Manson groupie thing
before it became so terribly uncool to like him, their source for Manson
goodies was Hit Parader ;) Not too classy of a mag, especially when it
comes to rating the talent of modern musicians.

please take a moment to reflect upon what you just wrote. he's not good by today's standards, and yet there are enough zeppelin-influenced guitarists out there for you to take notice? clearly, he was good at *something*.

    Hey guys...

I'll be at the Chicago show on the 13th (Hopefully). Anybody want to meet up? I have only been to Chicago once (and that was when I was little). If I can't make it to that show, then I will try to be in St. Loius on the 14th. I'm driving up there from Manhattan, KS (I go to Kansas State University). If anyone is interested, feel free to drop me an email (please send it to gjp9883@ksu.edu )- maybe possibly talk about different stuff. I'd also like to know what some of the other shows have been like. I've been wanting to go to a DT concert for a long time now... and finally, the chance has come. :-) It was on my list of things to do before I die. Thanks!

Well, I'm just talking about Jimmy Page as he was in the 70's. If the list was top 100 currently making music, then he wouldn't be close.

    >as far as hammett goes.. i really hope you're not a guitarist, and this is all said out >of common folk ignorance, because hammett is HORRID.. quite possibly THE >worst guitarist holding a major record contract.. his solo's lack continuity and/or >resolution.. he lands on any random note that he stumbles upon, because he has >practically zero understanding of his instrument.. what he does have is a great set >up with enough tone to get him past the untrained ear.(hammett's wretchedness surpasses opinion..his shitty playing just vommits all over musical laws

I do play some guitar, and have never taken lessons. But I have to seriously object to the pharase "musical laws." Music IMO should have no set laws. Thats kind of rediculous I think. "Musical Law" as it is called basically mean to folow what has gone before and not be innovative or presedent setting."Musical Law" is generally something talked about by music teachers and other people who just can't come up with anything original of their own. All they have to go by is what was set in the past. as for an "untrained ear," I have been listening to many kinds of music all day long for the past 25 years. That's a lot of experience. A "trained ear" would be the ear of someone who is taught/coerced to listen to things in only certain ways and look for only certain things. Much like a "trained dog." This isn't an insult here, just an observation. -Mike C.

Hi all, I just sub'ed to the list a few days ago, but I need to ask a big favor of anyone who's going to this Sunday's Dream Theater concert in San Francisco and lives in the South/East Bay. I was a dumbass and assumed up til now that the last CalTrain back would leave at midnight, like on weekdays, but I just checked and it leaves at 10pm, which sucks ass considering the doors open at 7 and I don't know if DT is playing first. Plus, if they're late, I'd probably end up having to leave before they even finish "Regression"! I'd REALLY appreciate it if anyone could give me a ride back to the general vicinity of Stanford after the show. I can take the CalTrain up, it's just the ride back I need help with. I'll pay for gas, food, a DT t-shirt, give you my firstborn, my soul, anything! Help!!!

    Thanks! Evan Chou echou@cs.stanford.edu

Hi all, I know you must hate me by now, and it's only my second post! ;) I just got a response from the Perpetual Motion board within six (!) minutes of posting, so I'm set for the ride back. Thanks to anyone who has or was about to offer help (I'm on the digest, so I don't get msgs right away). Anyways, sorry to clutter the list, and I hope to actually contribute something valuable in the future. Maybe I'll post a review of the show, but we all know already that it's going to _rock_. :)

We cannot comment on a refund at this time, however, the shut down was the result of a decision by the Fire Dept who deemed that we were over capacity - which is untrue. Our capacity is 1250 and there were only 980 in the building. We appologize for what happend last night, but we were in no way at fault in this situation and hope to have this rectified as soon as possible. We would appreciate it if you could see this situation from our point of view and realize that what happend was beyond our control. We sincerly appologize for any inconveinience you have encountered.

How can you over sell a show! Are they morons?!!

I have been reading these posts on this list and from other people, and man that's a fuckin drag! Why would anyone oversell a venue? Answer: Cause they are greedy, and the more money the better!

I feel sorry for the people who went to go see a great concert, and were robbed of it. It's not the fans, but it's DT as well. They didn't want to cut the show short! It's really not the fire marshalls fault, but that of the venue. I don't know the whole story, but I would say that the fans, and the band got it up the ass.

The fans and DT were both screwed. I bet that DT plays again there and makes sure the place isn't oversold. Hopefully the rest of the tour isn't like that. I tell you what, if they over sell the Chicago show and cut it short, I really don't think the people here are going to tolerate it. Fuck the venue and the people in charge.

Who wants to go to any concert and see it cut short. If there is anyway to screw this venue over, I hope it's done. I hope no band plays there ever. It would be great if a band said that there is no way they are going to play at this venue becaue of what happened. It. should teach them a lesson, hopefully.

It is DEFINATELY the disc. Mine is the same, I was beginning to wonder if it was just me. I actually only noticed it once I taped OiaLT and was playing it in the car. Weird.... You'd think that given today's production technology and the fact that the band wouldn't want to release an inferior product that it would have been fixed up in the studio....

I heard it was just that James' mic wigged out for a second and cut him off. There's not much of a way that they could have spiffed that up in the studio without having James dub over the vocals, and I think they avoided doing that altogether on OiaLT after some of the razing that went on over them doing it on some of their other live stuff (i.e. ACoS Leftovers). It's such a minor thing anyway. :P -- KorgX3 knows best. Even better then Fred Douglas. My toenail hurts.

I have recently attended two Dream Theater shows (SFAM tour) and have nothing but positive things to say about their performance. I do have a question though: at both concerts, the same music was played over the P.A. in between their opening act and DT's set...I assume this will be the same for the whole tour. What I would like to know is what cd they are actually playing. it seems like some sort of prog compilation...The first song was by Rush and it was a remix. After that was other familiar prog songs by different bands, some of which also seemed to be remixes. Anyways, I would like to know if any of you have heard of such a cd and what it is called. If any of your are planning to attend upcomming DT shows, listen for this and see if you can find out what cd it is. I would appreciate any help.

If this has been mentioned, forgive me. The closing section of "Finally Free" is VERY close to the closing section of The Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". Guess we know who came up with the idea. Still, it's a great idea.

Yes, she CAN run a nice website. It looks fantastic for something that was obviously abandoned over 4 months ago.

Hi Jammers! I need help... I'm often poster on one Russian music forum and I've got in quarrel almost with everybody. The reason is : What is progressive? Does it really exist? and Is Dream Theater progressive? They confused me at all. For some strange reason, they are all lots in good music, love art-rock, classical metal and jazz, hard-rock... But they completely don't understand Dream Theater (they say it's boring!) and what I mean by "progressive". So, could you help me and explain WHAT PROGRESSIVE IS otherwixe they'll kill me at all....

    thanx, Ksenya

I would have to say Progressive is a combination of all of the form of music that you listed. Sure, alot of it is more Hard rock oriented, but elements of classic rock, art rock, metal and jazz are present. Just tell them that progressive means good.

Progresso is a complany that makes some really sweet New England Clam Chowder in the can. They also make alot of other great soups and canned foods. You can visit them on the web at http://www.progressosoup.com/

Now, whether or not Dream Theater is affiliated with Progresso or not is totally unrelated to their musical abilities. Why anyone would consider that to be a 'fault' on their part is absolutely rediculous. At least it shows that have good taste. :) -- KorgX3 endorses Kentucky Fried Chicken Sporks, eating utensil of the gods. NP: The Gathering - Nighttime Birds.m3u

Hi, I'm new on the list here. Is anyone else going to the Orlando show on March 3rd? I'm on the Bike Week in Daytona Beach the first week of March (if I find accommmondation in this region) and ordered two tickets for the House of Blues Gig for me and my girlfriend.

There seems to be still a little confusion about Feb. 11th's Minneapolis pre-show get together. It's going to be at 4:00 pm at the Rock Bottom Brewery near the State Theater (where D.D. and D.T. will be playing). If you need any more info, contact Al (al@isd.net) for details and a nice little map of the area that he made up. He has set up the event and is keeping track of everyone who is coming. Hope to see you all there!

Also, just before the jam died, I asked if someone could post a detailed list of Mike Bahr's bootlegs which are suspected (and/or proven) to contain material which is not from Dream Theater (or the intended band on the disc). Someone could have very well posted this info but it got lost in the confusion last week. Please post again this info so we can sort out which boots are legit and which ones contain garbage. This is really disheartening because I thought I had myself a couple collector's items and now it seems that I'll probably not get back what I paid for them if I ever part with them. =(

Thanks and glad to see the jam back in order!
