I completely agree...Milwaukee just had way more energy. I
think the fans were actually a little more into it in MPLS
no offense Milwaukee), but you're 'tied' to those damn
seats, and the band doesn't feel you as much. I'm getting
further from the old Anthrax mosh pit days, so we thought
the State Theater would be a nice change of pace for our old
bones, but I was wrong, Milwaukee rocked. Both the Dregs
and DT seemed to feed off it better too (being so much more
'connected' to the audience.) Hell, Jordan mouthed the
words for about three songs! Also JP's and MP's solos were
(a little) longer and better. As long as the crowd's not
insane (and DT crowds generally aren't), gen. adm. is the
    only way to go!!!

One quick thing about the secret track mentioned earlier...I
wish Myung was always mixed like that!!

It's good to hear somebody out there thought they were as much fun as I did. To my knowledge, the Star People don't have any albums or even a webpage. (Anyone out there who knows better than me, please chip in with a correction.) They exist merely to support other bands of totally different styles to their own...and to absorb earthling culture for their studies...

Thanks to everyone who've gushed over Pain of Salvation in recent weeks. I just got their "One Hour By The Concrete Lake" based on that word-of-mouth alone, and, damn is it fine. If you're looking for something surprising from the progmetal camp, this is the album to buy (or maybe their other one...don't know anything about that).

Ugh, Club 5...nice looking joint, acoustics suck ASS!!! (or at least they did last show I saw there). One cool thing about the place...they sell T-shirts that say "Slave" and "Master" you can basicly walk right into the place though without anyone stopping you...should be interesting. Now if only we can get them to play The Moon here in Tallahassee...so I can save some money, and still see DT! (I'll talk to the booking agent tomorrow)

any of you guys interested in trying out those death metal (or at least deathy vocal) types of bands without laying out real money (i.e. $10) to hear one single band at a time might be wise to check out the Centruy (Media) Black (metal) label's Firestarter compilation....

I picked that item up at Tower Records for $3.98 new/wrapped/whatever (Hey, the same price as Mr. Miyagi's belt!), and it has 15 tracks, from (in order) Emperor, Old Man's Child, Satyricon, Borknagar, Katatonia, Arcturus, Opthalamia/Einherjer/Rotting Christ/Sacramentum/Ulver/Samael/Mayhem/Tiamat/Opeth

I'm not too good at handling deathy vocals, but Opeth has some cool music behind the growls, so I might well be checking that band out further, as well as a couple of others

(the opeth track, btw, is "Nectar"...if anyone wants to tell me what disc that's on, or give me advice on what opeth to pursue, the address is ahtrap@hotmail.com)

Actually, at the SLC show there was a guy who came out just before their set and was passing out cards to everyone that had some info on it about a website of theirs... Unfortunately, I folded it up into a paper airplane and tossed it at the band. I can't believe the audacity of those bastards to come down here and waste OUR fucking natural resources to promote their own pathetic existance. :) Fucking aliens, where are the MIB when you need them?

But no, really, from the card it read something like "Prepare to be dazzled by the Star People's innovative psychadelic space rock!" and I was moaning "Oh, no, Ozric Tentacles' evil offspring has arisen..." From the start though... That opening little one minute act they did with the chick on violin was totally whoop ass. As soon as Cpt. Kirk and his kazoo blowing perc buddy tramped up on stage though I was like "Oh, no, Ozric Tentacles' evil offspring has arisen..." but that's just my $30.50. (cost of tickets in SLC) -- KorgX3 goes off yet again... my fault for showing up early, I guess. NP: Dream Theater - Falling into Infinity

Wow is all I can say! I just back from the show in Chicago and it smoked. First off, I got the chance to meet Portnoy and Morgenstein at Sam Ash. Maybe some other people on the list did too. Portnoy was like an hour late cause some asshole didn't arrange for him to get picked up at the venue. But him and Ron were really cool. They signed everything and were real nice.

The Dreggs were incredible especially during "Cruise Control" They all switched off solos. It was awesome. Morse and LaRue are awesome! Now for Dream Theater, they were nothing short of spectaluar. They played the whole album, and it smoked. Perfection at its finest. Jordan did his solo, and I passed out. I do not know a single bassplayer that can move his fret hand faster that John Myung. The is phenominal. The show was killer, and that's my two cents. Who else went to it tonight?

I just happened across this piece of news on the official "Peanuts" webpage... What a sad day this is.

    `-----------------------------------------------'

PEANUTS CREATOR CHARLES SCHULZ DIES OF COLON CANCER

NEW YORK, Feb 13 - Cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, creator of the comic strip, PEANUTS, died early today of colon cancer in Santa Rosa, CA (12:30 am. EST). He was 77 years old.

The most successful comic strip in newspaper history, PEANUTS appears in some 2,600 newspaper in 75 countries and is translated into 21 languages. United Feature Syndicate started the strip in syndication on October 2, 1950.

The influence of Charles Schulz on several generations of cartoonists cannot be overstated. "With intelligence, honesty, and wonderfully expressive artwork, Charles Schulz gave the comics a unique world of humor, fantasy, warmth and pain that completely reconfigured the comic strip landscape," Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin and Hobbes, wrote in 1989. It was PEANUTS that truly brought the American comic strip into the lives of contemporary readers using innovations such as Lucy's Psychiatric Booth, Linus' Security Blanket(a phrase originally coined by Mr. Schulz), Snoopy's fantasies, and Charlie Brown's baseball team. There will never be another cartoonist quite like Charles M. Schulz.

In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Schulz, United Feature Syndicate will not ask another artist or writer to take over the creation of the PEANUTS comic strip. Rather, United Feature Syndicate, which holds the copyright to PEANUTS, recently began offering its clients classic PEANUTS comic strips, starting with those that Mr. Schulz created in 1974. These strips began on January 4, 2000; today's Sunday comic strip is the last original created by Mr. Schulz.

Nineteen seventy four was chosen because it incorporates the characters of the strips's early days (Charlie Brown, Lucy, Schroeder and Snoopy) with characters who were introduced in more recent years such as Peppermint Patty and Woodstock.

During the 50 years that Charles M. Schulz drew and wrote PEANUTS, his style gradually evolved and matured. The strips that he drew in 1974 united the genius of his comic timing and dialogue with the artwork of a master at the peak of his craft. These classic strips will be new, of course, to at least two generations of readers.

During his lifetime, Mr. Schulz had approved a select group of artists who were allowed, under close supervision, to draw limited art for PEANUTS licensed items. These artists will continue their work under the direction of United Media and Mr. Schulz's family.

"We will be working closely, in the days and year ahead, with Mr. Schulz's family to ensure the continued high quality of all elements of the PEANUTS property," said Douglas Stern, president and chief executive officer of United Media. "We offer our deepest condolences to Jean Schulz, to Mr. Schulz's children, Meredith, Monte, Craig, Amy, and Jill and their families. Nothing was more important to Sparky than family -- it was clear in his work and clear in his life . As millions mourn the man who made us laugh, so do we mourn the loss of a teacher, colleague, and friend."

Mr. Schulz's family kindly request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the National D-Day Memorial Foundation. And, sent to the following address:

In Memory of Charles M. Schulz The National D-Day Memorial Foundation P.O.Box 77 Bedford, VA 24523

How strange that he died on the very same day that his very last comic strip was being printed. "Isn't it ironic..."

a lot of the stuff on both LTE discs were talked about before recording, and worked out the rest of the way during the recording. with the exception of three minute warning on LTE1, the entire song wasn't even discussed before hand. the four of them just went into the booth, and said, BLAM!, we're geniuses. only basic time measurements and certain notes are discussed with these guys before they record. that's why portnoy is always running his DAT tapes, just in case he pulls of something great when they're jamming. it's a good thing he was running the DAT when they were recording TMWarning, because the studio tape ran out they were playing for soooo long. well, that's all i have to say. peace.

that was supposed to mean that Three Minute Warning was the only song on LTE1 that wasn't discussed prior to recording. All the other songs there were basic ideas laid down before recording. TMWarning is the only song on that disc where the four of them play together all at the same time during recording. Just wanted to clarify that one. Peace.

I stand and tip the hat to Charles Shultz. I think the man knew his time was near, that's why he announced the ending of his comics. I think that there isn't a better way in the world to go out than having one of the most loved comics ever, retired the very next day. It was a sad day across the country yesterday. We will miss Charles Shultz.
