Yeah, I saw the show. I got my wife the CD for X-Mas, and she wanted me to

one HELL of a voice. And I remember thinking the same thing - his voice was

I didnt catch the show, but im quite familiar with his work, and yes i also
think he has an awesome voice. I also have always wondered what he could do
    in a rock/metal/ environment...he has a lot of range and power..IMO he'd be
perfect in a prog metal band :)

    >was near, that's why he announced the ending of his comics. I think that

No. If you want to know the real story, pull up a chair and listen
    carefully...

Fifty years ago Charles Schulz was a degenerate youth who dabbled in the
mystic arts of black magic, ouija, crystal healing, Buddy Holly, etc. One
day he was so damn fried on that new-fangled tobacco drug he didn't realize
what he was doing and placed a large chunk of iron pyrite over his heart
chakra and initiated a horrible sense of personal loss and doom leading him
to the brink of suicide. At that time he made a wish: "I wish I could turn
my life around and bring joy to all of the people I've made to suffer
because of my evil black voodoo magic ways."

    BAMPH!

At the moment Satan appeared and said, "How much you wanna pay, Chuckie?"
Charlie said, "I would dedicate my life to it."
Satan replied, "Would you sell your soul?"

    Charles asks, "Would it hurt?"
    Satan laughs, "Not right now."
Charles answers, "Alright, why not, what the fuck?"

So Satan gives Chuckie boy the ability to draw, a wonderful family, a loving
audience, and colon cancer. So, when C. Schulz decides "ah, man... time to
quit" Satan pops up, guts him and drags him down to hell to dangle him over
a blazing cauldron by seven fishing hooks in his scrotum.

Which is exactly what will happen to anyone else on this list if they post
that whole damn article here again. :)

Damn, long time since I've been around this jam thing.... just wondering though....a question for any LI, NY area jammers who may be familiar with the Music Arcade, one of the best places I know of to get DT and other prog. I went there recently, and they had a nice new section devoted entirely to prog, but I couldn't find a single boot, and they used to have such a fantastic collection. Does anyone know if this is a new thing, or temporary, or if I was just really unlucky, or what?

    Thanks....

I got mine weeks ago! Its brilliant this (last) year. For the benefit of those who requested the tracklisting, here it is:

    1. Don't Look Past Me (with recently recorded vocals) 2. To Live Forever '91 3. To Live Forever '94 (LIE Single) 4. Eve (Silent Man Single) 5. Raise The Knife 6. Where Are You Now 7. The Way It Used To Be (Hollow Years Single) 8. Cover My Eyes 9. Speak To Me (Japanese FII) 10. ...wait and see........

+ if you put the CD into your computer you get footage from beartracks studio from may that was posted on Portnoy's site a few months ago

Trust me, It'll be well worth the wait (even though it is more of an Easter CD)

IIRC, our very own Matt Scurfield from Event (the band formerly know as Mystic Fishook http://www.mysticfishook.com) did the drumming for Jaye on this new one.

Jaye was at NAMM this year, BTW. Perhaps someone who caught her on the 4th can comment on her playing. I have Infectious Licks, and all I can say is that on several tunes, she shreds!

Not sold yet? Here's a little something from her website:

Indeed. I have an original larger sized (maybe 12"w x 9"h) comic book of his from the 60's. I'll look for it and scan it in at some point, if anyone would like to check it out. It's short, maybe 10-20 pages...

In honor of his life, here's an interesting little snippet a Boston newspaper article ran today:

[Born in St. Paul, Minn, on Nov. 26, 1922, Mr. Schulz was first inspired to become a cartoonist by an elementary school teacher name Miss Paro who believed his childish doodles would someday amount to something.

In an interview with the Boston Herald American on July 17, 1972, Mr. Schulz recalled how Miss Paro held his squiggles up for all the class to see, way back when.

"I couldn't see any talent in the squiggles. I really don't know what she saw in my drawings. Maybe she just saw I was happy when I was drawing and she was wise enough to realize how important that was," he recalled.]

    Hi -

I have a question about the total time of the shows on this DT tour. From info I've been able to piece together, the Dregs play for about an hour and DT plays for about 2 hours. I don't know how long the Star People play for, and I don't know how much time elapses between the acts. For example, if a show starts at say, 7:30, would the entire concert be over by say, midnight? I'm just looking for some ballpark times here.

    Thanks!!

LOL. I agree. Especially with people like D-Man rekindling my interest in washed out bands like Tall Stories and suchlike. hahahaha. It's amazing how much non-prog I've actually gotten into via this list. If it weren't for the 'jam, I wouldn't have even 1/3 of the CD's I do now, or they'd likely be Limp Bizkit, Toge+her (lol), etc. rather than Spock's Bears, Superior, etc. It is incredibly amazing how diverse my listening habits are anymore, but I honestly have to tip my new DT hat to the 'jam for helping to get me there. :)

Hi all, Well only 7 DAYS till DT! So here are the final plans. As we'll meet at 5:30 at Cafe'nema Jazz Bar & Grill on U St. It's between the blocks of 13th and 14th St. It's kind of hard to see because its under a staircase, but there is a sign out front. It's opposite the State of the Union club. This may change because it looks like with our current group, we're going to pack the place because its usually pretty hopping. I looked on yahoo and found the names of some other restaraunts in the area and am going check them out tomorrow on my way to work. Its accessible via the U St. - Cardozo MEtro stop on the green line. For those who are driving, there is a parking lot across the street from which you can walk to 9:30 from but I think you may need to pay like 2$. The 9:30 webpage says that doors open at 7:30, although news from other jammers has been that the Star People begin performing at 7:30. I will call the club and verify this, if this is true, we will probably leave for the club at 7:00, if the doors open at 7:30, we'll probably leave around 7:20. For those who are going to hang around after the concert, I know my group along with Ryan will be camped out by the tour bus if anyone would like to join us. If anyone needs directions to the 9:30 club, follow this URL to the 9:30 club website, http://www.930.com/info/directions.html Hope to see ya all there!

    Hey all,

Being new to the metro area and the 9:30 club I have one question, will the show be packed? If so, do we still want to show up 10 minutes before the door opens? I'd much rather go stand in line for a bit to be able to get a better spot before the stage than come in late and have to watch from afar. Just my thoughts.

They played the PowerProg festival in Tilburg NL last November and I liked them enough to buy their CD. It has only grown on me over the last few months. I started out only liking 2/6 songs (including a 20 minute song that doesn't wear on you). Now, I like almost the whole thing, most of it a lot. They do have a female vocalist which I dont normally care for too much, but this one I like.

Nice songwriting and decent if a bit raw prog-metal sounds. Nothing prog-washy like Enchant, etc. For those who like to point out stuff like "their guitar player is not as good as JP", you will be correct, if even subjectively. But SO WHAT ????? Worth it if you can get it. And, count me in for another Evergrey fan as well.

This should serve as a reminder what a good deal the ProgPower festival thing really is. They are planning the next one in November at the same place I think. If you like progressive metal, you should start saving your money and try to go. You meet some really decent people as well.

    Cheers, Mark Metzger mmetzger@comversens.com

PS to "you-know-who" - does the DW in your e-mail address stand for Dick Wad ??

Hey guys! I've just returned to school in Utah after seeing both the Milwaukee and Chicago shows. Needless to say, this was a great weekend. About the Star People...I'm not going to be 100% judgemental because I was up in the front both nights and I know that the mix is best from back by the soundboard. I had heard both negative and positive reviews from them prior to the show, so i went in with an open mind. The violinist had some skills, and the band sounded ok...that is until the singer came out. And the percussionist on the front left?!?!? what was he doing?!?! The music was ok, better the first time around than the second. But I didnt like the act they put on. It seemed to me that they were trying to live up to an image that wasn't them. What was the deal with the whole martini act? for those of you who chose to stay towards the back, did you know that the singer didn't swallow one ounce of that alcohol? It was all an act. I'm not a drinker and if people chose to then thats ok, but why the act? Was that really necessary? I was almost embarassed for him. As for the Dregs...what can you say besides amazing? I wasn't familiar with the Dregs before the show, but by the second night I was really into it. Does anyone look like they're having more fun on stage than Rod? The man just made me smile. Good musicianship was totally evident and I liked their laid back approach and to total focus on the music. Talk about complete opposite from the Star People. DT....ahhhhhh...it was my first time seeing them and those were two of the best shows I've ever seen. Every single member is so proficient on their instrument and I was completely impressed. Besides the two girls right next to me who claimed to have seen every show since the Awake tour...yet somehow managed to have seen Kevin live (yes, they lied) and didn't know one word of ANY song (yes...they were full of it) and yes, they did manage to get backstage passes from a roadie...my night went WONDERFULLY. The crowd was more to my liking in Chicago, the people by me in Milwaukee weren't as enthusiastic. Plus, I managed to survive the sub-zero temperatures and meet all the band members after the show. The elusive John Myung has gone on record in my books as saying another plrase in public ("I'll be right back"). Being able to meet those guys really just topped off a perfect weekend. The only problem now is coming down from all the excitement and not having something like that to look forward too. For those of you who still have your shows to attend, IM JEALOUS!!!!! Sarah

Here's an interesting news snippet from the latest Classic Rock:

"TRANSATLANTIC are a new melodic rock project featuring TEN guitarist VINNY BURNS and MILLENIUM (sic) guitarist RALPH SANTOLLA, plus four lead vocalists, namely ex-DANGER DANGER/BONE MACHINE man TED POLEY, SUE WILLETS of DANTE FOX, DAN ST.=A0MICHAEL of TEER and JOHNNY LIMA. They release an through (sic) Frontiers Records this summer."

Does this mean we have a legal battle on our hands? Oh goody. :-)

I had an encounter with Chris Jerhico today, backstage at the San Jose Arena. After hearing about his DT fanaticism on the jam I decided to put it to a test. I simply wore my SFaM T-shirt. I figured If he was the DT freak that everyone was saying he would spot it and approach me, which he did. Upon seeing me in the shirt he immeadiatly sprang from his seat and complimented me on it. I was blown away I didn't recognize him at first (his hair was pulled back) but he was so exited to talk to sombody about DT! He was in a attendance both nights in LA. He kept asking me "have you seen the tour"? after the third time asking, I was able to get the point across that yes I HAD seen the tour and the night after he did. He had told me of his nickname for John Myung, "octopus Boy" because of his fretwork! he is just as amazed as anyone of uswith the new album and tour and even more so with James in LA! he told me he plans to attend the roseland Ballroom show in NY later this month because he plans to be in the area. If you see him be sure to say hi I'm sure he would apprecite it
