Ok, this is kinda odd.. I was in Best Buy last night buying some computer
shyt and I decided to go check out some of the cd's.. I've had a friggin
Def Leppard song stuck in my head all weekend thanks to a local radio
station that was having a huge weekend devoted to them, evidently they sold
out their concert.. Well, As I was looking for the album that their song
was on, I was in the W's and checked to see some other crap.. I happened
upon Kip Winger's CD.. Yea the guy from Winger..

I know, I know.. But here's the odd part.. It's not that bad actually.. Its
all acoustic and he does 3 songs from his old Winger days, Headed for a
Heartbreak, Miles Away, and Easy Come, Easy Go... Sickingly enough its
getting more of a listen then Q2K did..

Just wondering if anyone else had checked this out and what they thought of
    it..

GOD! Some of you people are way too F*cking PC!!!!
The only way id figure someone would be offended by it if its theyre related
    to the guy...
politically correctness is becoming ridiculous..one thing is to respect each
and every person as an individual and not discriminating against anyone. but
getting your panties in a bunch when someone says something remotely un-PC
    is just stupid.

Is it really "PC" to not like it when someone mocks death? I don't really
think so. I think being PC more relates to when someone walks on eggshells
around a huge topical issue. Last I knew there was never a big outcry for
Dead Man's Rights. Maybe people are being sensitive about this, but "PC?"
    Nope, sorry. Stupid argument.

Haha!! Posting the entire jam (or at least trying to) was AWESOME!!!

Cool Chris Jericho story, though. Nice to know there are other pro-wrestling
fans on the list (mock me if you can).

So now I'm wondering if there's an .mp3 of the studio version of To Live
Forever on the 'net somewhere. No, I haven't checked LitS yet, 'cause I just
thought of it and I'm at work right now, but if there is, can someone let me
know? I'd be appreciative if someone could point me in the right direction
with a URL or FTP addy, since I want this song on CD and won't be getting
the fan club disc. Thanks in advance.

OK, so maybe Korgie's post offended me. A little. I even thought of posting
a reply to him (in private mail) saying that while I usually like his humor,
that was not funny. I just don't think it's nice to make that kind of jokes
about someone right after his death.

But this. This post offended me (and probably many others) a HELLUVA lot
more than Korg's original post. First of all, posts like this should be sent
in private mail (if you absolutely have to write a flame like this..). And I
have always believed that politeness gives much better results than shouting
    and calling someone a bastard.

BTW. I think the "freedom of speech thing" is applicable outside the 'net as
    well...

If anyone took me serious on that they need their heads checked. And no, I
have no respect for the dead. There's no such thing as RIP. They're dead,
what do they care? I'm sure if I would have had Chuckie S. reincarnated as
Linus Van Pelt to come back and kill his brother Rerun for making the moves
on his woman Sally Brown it would have been funny. *sigh* Whatever.
Insincere apologies to all around. :P

Just a reminder to any progressive rock fans in the eastern seaboard region: tickets to the NEARfest in Bethlehem, PA just went on sale a few minutes ago (11:00am EST). They're a bit pricey (range from $75 to $40), but we're talking about a two day festival here, and look at just some of the bands you get for your bucks...

Anekdoten Happy The Man Iluvatar Par Lindh Project Transatlantic

Lots of others -- it's a cornucopia of prog. Get 'em while they're still available, 'cause this thing's sure to sell out fast. For more information, including a complete list of bands and how to go about actually acquiring the tickets, go to http://www.nearfest.com/ .

I scored orchestra pit tickets myself. Hop to it, proglodytes.

Hey, all! Just a note from a general lurker about the shows this last weekend. Saturday in Milwaukee was an absolute blast. The only bummer was missing Mike and Rod at MARS by less than 5 minutes, due to lousy directions. We came from a couple hours away. We were in line by 4:00 PM at the Rave. Ended up in the front center, which was sweeeet. We met so many awesome people. Several jammers. We met guys from the band Downfall. Another group from Michigan. A couple of times I had to put my bitch hat on due to security not doing their job. We were all waiting outside. About 30ish people. They brought us all in to the bar. As time for doors got closer, all the people showing up at 6:30-7:00 PM were cutting all of us off to be first. I stepped in and helped sort out the last from the first, and when we were in, all my new found acquaintances were right around us during the show. What a blast. For any who are wondering, I was the one in the Patriots jersey. The show was unreal. From the Dregs through DT. Amazing. No one should miss this show, if they can help it. Everyone around me was having fun with Star People. A group started singing parts during their last song. It became contagious. Everyone in a great mood, ready for an awesome show. It was snowing hard after, and we had a long drive that night, so we decided to wait to try to meet some band members until Sunday in Chicago. Bad move....

Sunday was disappointing, apart from the show, which sounded awesome. It was better than Milwaukee. We brought 3 new people to see DT. One knew the music, but had never seen a live show. My brother didn't know much about DT, other than I am addicted. A third being a college friend who wasn't into DT at all. He liked the Dregs, however.

I had agreed to meet a fellow jammer & DT fan, initially only wanting a ride to the hotel from the Riviera after the show. I offered my services, as it seemed like no big deal. Eventually, it turned into meeting this person at Union Station (30 minutes away) at 4:00 PM. I talked to my husband, and he agreed it would be ok. One of us would wait in line, the other would go to the train station. 2 of the people we were with were coming after doors opened, so we were saving seats. The other went with me to the train. My husband stood out in the cold in line. We felt we would be back well before doors, so I didn't even think to get my ticket. As it turns out, the train was 2 hours late, we missed doors and Star People, and my husband is still outside with my ticket, freezing his ass off. He was pissed. No ones fault, just bad luck. Needless to say, we were in nosebleed, which sucks due to initially being like 20th in line..... we couldn't see Jordan at all. It just was disappointing, After the show, we met with our jammer, and were told to hold tight. They had a pass to the after show and wanted to go. They were going to try to get us back as well. We had the luggage and all in the car, so we couldn't leave. We ended up pushed outside and they never came back until the party was over. We stood out front of the venue, because they "were going to be right back" for well over an hour. We waited because we didn't want to get crossed up, or for this person to think we left them high and dry.

Essentially, waiting for this person, we froze our asses off in sub zero wind chills, missed meeting the band because we were waiting in front where they would exit, we missed good seats because we were trying to help someone out, we missed socializing with our friends entirely, and essentially we were not even given a THANK YOU for our efforts. It made what should have been a magic weekend, just brutally average. I have an amazingly bitter taste in my mouth.

Apparently, I had my little black skirt, white apron and duster on when we met this person, because I was certainly nothing more than a servant for a day. If they would have come back and said they were going to be an hour, we could have gone somewhere to stay warm, or given the luggage to the person and gone home, or waited out back to at least meet the band.

You try to help someone and you get totally screwed, Beware, fellow jammers, all is not what it seems. My day was a disaster (except for hearing the show again.)

    Later!!

    Kim (a.k.a. BEEOTCH)

hey, there's another wrestling fan here in Baltimore! I think Chris Jericho is one of the rather intelligent men that tour with the WWF right now. In case you all didn't know, on his website, www.chrisjericho.com he goes through and reviews one new cd a month on his commentary page. He is also does a metal article in a music mag ( I can't think of the name right now ) each month. He is rather entertaining. I had the oppurtunity to speak with Jericho for like 30 minutes up in Philadelphia not too long back when I caught a house show up there. and the kicker is, when smackdown came yo Baltimore last month during the snowstorm, I ran into him again, and he took the time out to ask me how I was doing (showing he still remembered who I was). we got into another 30 minute talk about dream theater. what I found funny, is that the Hardyz came over and got into this one again. Just thought you all would like that story. Piece.

After a few months on napster.com (i'm tellin' ya, check this place out!), I've amassed quite a few DT rarities....could someone tell me about some of 'em?

    Lost Without You

Bad (acoustic dreams) sounds like U2......

    Freeport Jam

"Jammin" (Myung does some strange slap bass stuff near the end, but mostly it's just a sloppy improvised wankfest)

    Long Island Expressway

Moon Bubbles (which I've also seen labeled as "moonbarf")

    Raise the Knife

    Red Hill Mining Town

The Way it Used to Be

Winter (I know it's a Tori Amos song, but is it really supposed to be 2:30? Tori's version is over six miniutes!) Thanks -Banjoman

np: DT winter.mp3 (I know the emotional songs thread is over, but this is the saddest song EVER!)

p.s. The REAL life and times of Charles Schulz. (worth reposting? Yeah, I saw the show. I got my wife the CD for X-Mas, and she wanted me to watch the show with her. I really enjoyed it. You're right, that dude's got one HELL of a voice. And I remember thinking the same thing - his voice was as strong at the end of the night than it was at the beginning! He really has to quit the smoking, though... I'd hate to see a talent like that suffer the same fate as Geoff Tate.

    -----------------------------------------

Apparently you haven't seen Queensryche on the Q2K tour. What you just said EXACTLY describes how Geoff Tate is right now, as strong at the end as in the beginning, even when he had the FLU. Same FATE as Geoff Tate? Seriously, if anyone thinks Tate has lost it GO see him on tour if you still can, he is singing loads of Mindcrime material w/a few older ones (Walk in the shadows) better than he did even on the Building Empires video (seriously, WitS was BETTER than the one on the tape IMO w/the exception of the lack of Chris DeGarmo). Now I'm not going to get into a Q2K argument, if you dont like their direction (which is just one album anyways, doesnt say anything about what the next will be like which is how QR works) whatever, but it is a FACT that Geoff Tate still has the technique and range and everyone I've spoken to who's seen them on tour will vouch for that. The only people saying he has "lost it" are those who didnt bother to see them on the Q2K tour. He held the most insanely massively long notes on Eyes of a Stranger and Right Side of My Mind (I dont care if you dont like the song there was a massively long and HIGH note which he did even better than the album I think, live)

So do yerself a favor and BOW DOWN to (IMHO) one of the greatest rock vocalists OF ALL TIME (still running).

Final note on Marc Anthony: Puh-LEEZE~! The guy has a decent voice, which I was only able to discover from seeing his Before-they-were-rockstars thing on VH1, 'cause his present single (ie: the one that got him mainstream success) IMO requires NO vocal talent and doesnt really demonstrate that much. Thats all I have to say about that (See I didnt even say he sucks, but what's w/the name anyways?)

As far as I know about the two versions of Shania Twain's Come on Over CD, one is the original country version and the other is a (Japanese) version with all of the tracks remixed all "poppy." If you've heard the rock radio version of "That Don't Impress Me Much" with the dance drums and stuff, you'll know what I mean. Honestly, I prefer the original versions.

This info is from my little brother, though, and I can't say for sure how accurate it is. :) -- KorgX3 wonders if he should "Make a drink? Or make a move?"

Basically, what I think Matt T's trying to say is that in the end when it comes down to it, there's never been a singer who had a successful career using a voice box. :) Well, except for maybe Ned on South Park. His O Little Town of Bethlehem was pretty sweet.

Cartoons don't count. Smoking can and will cripple a singer. It's only a matter of time. (DT reference? Maybe.) -- KorgX3 doesn't need a lobotomy. He's naturally stupid. NP: Crash Test Dummies - I Think I'll Disappear Now.mp3

I agree with yuo that he is one of the best.. Seen him 3 times so far over 10 years and he's been dead on each time. But I dunno... The last 3 albums were a bucket of suck.. Not just one album.. But then again thats just my opinion..
