    Essential DT boot's:
As previously stated, 'Mind Control', 'The Dance Of Eternity'
    'Uncovered' the legendary covers gig
'The Fix For 96' different arrangements on the FII material
'Nighttime Nostagia' fan club gig that is also known as 'Stained Glass'
'Regression Of A Memory' France 1999, perhaps in terms of quality, the best audience boot I have heard.
There's tonnes more, but really you only need one decent boot from each tour :)
Unless your a DT CD whore like me :)

Yep, it is. Jericho writes an article in there every month called Metal is
Jericho (in fact, another jammer mentioned this about 3 or 4 jams ago). And
in the latest he gave his top albums for every year in the 90's. SFAM and
Awake were both named albums of their respective years by him and IAW was his
runner up in 92 to KISS' Revenge album (which that particular jammer also
mentioned 3 or 4 jams ago), Boy, what was he smokin on THAT choice? Revenge
over IAW??? And, on that note, am I the only one here who's completely sick
of KISS?? I mean, enough's enoughh! gene Simmons is the ultimate rock whore.
At least he makes no bones about it though, but still. I am at the point
where I just hate this band anymore. And the funy thing is, I'm a big KISS
fan and I STILL hate them at this point! I can only imagine how everyone else
feels. Oh well, excuse me for rambling.

Dark Side of the Moon or the Wall are essential albums for any CD collections.
Though theyre not my favourite Floyd CDs. Animals or Meddle are better IMO,
but maybe not for the first floyd album you get.
BTW did anyone see a very humble (slightly bald I think) Dave Gilmour and Ian Paice playing for
Paul McCartney? I saw him on TV the other night and freaked out.

    Hi Andrew!!

I am going to respectfully disagree. I pulled out my husbands copy of THE
STAR TREK ENCYCLOPEDIA by Okuda, Okuda and Mirek. Here is the definition
    from the book

"sehlat. A Vulcan animal resembling a large teddy bear with six-inch fangs.
When Spock was a boy, he was very fond of his pet sehlat. ("Journey to
    Babel" [TOS])."

And BTW I am not Mike that's my husband, I am Pam. Mike is a DT fan too,
    but I'm the fanatic.

With all the attention this topic has received on the Jam... I thought
I'd jump on the bandwagon. :) Ahem.. Peanuts: Where are they now?

Charlie Brown and Marcie were wed in June of 1982. After five years of
working dead-end jobs, Charlie landed a position at the Schlitz brewery
in Longview Texas. Marcie elected to stay home so she could take care of
the kids they were PLANING on having. After several years of unsuccessfu=
    l
sex, (take it for what it's worth) Marcie convinced Charlie to see a doct=
    or
about his *problem*. According to the doctor, things were not *looking =
    up*
for Charlie Brown.. :) Two weeks later at a bowling banquet, Marcie emba=
    rrassed
Charlie publicly by mentioning his problem in front of his bowling buddie=
    s...
His unparalleled anger (compounded by his chronic alcoholism) sent him in=
    to
a violent rage <insert oohs and aahs here> When they returned home,
Charlie waited for her to fall asleep.... Then he set her on fire with =
    a full bottle
of Homer Formby's furniture polish and a Harley Davidson commemorative
Zippo =AE lighter. Marcie did not survive her injuries. Charlie Brown i=
    s currently
a patient at "Trembling Hills" home for the criminally insane.

Franklin moved to Burley Idaho in 1982... He's employed by Pipemore
Engineering as a property surveyor. When he's not busy coaching little
league, he can be found skimming through the personal pages of his
local papers... Or surfing the web. :) He remains single...

Rerun began building Pro Stock motorcycle engines in the spring of 1985.
After teaming up with George Bryce of "Star Racing", he began his career =
    by
building engines with some of the most impressive dyno numbers ever seen
from a naturally aspirated motorcycle engine. Unfortunately, while test-=
    driving
one of his new creations on the streets of Americus Georgia, he hit a pot=
    hole
at high speed and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was pronounced
    dead at the scene.

Peppermint Patty works as a waitress at a truck stop just outside of Tuls=
    a,
OK. Her CB radio friends know her as "The Sexecutioner". Her co-workers
refer to her as "The Sleeper Creeper". She's gained 75 pounds and has a
mustache that would make Tom Selleck jealous. She remains single, but is
rumored to *shack up* with a guy named John Petrucci (guitarist for the
Prog-metal band "Dream Theater") whenever his band is in the Oklahoma are=
    a..

Linus and Sally began married life in 1981... 12 years later, Linus suff=
    ered
a permanent spinal injury after being hit by a Fed Ex truck as he chased
Chris Farley across a busy street. The highly visible Mr. Farley (sporti=
    ng a
blaze orange sweat suit) was walking from an adult book store and had no
idea why he was being pursued by Linus. Paramedics at the scene herd Lin=
    us
muttering something about a "Great Pumpkin". Sally faithfully takes care=
     of
her quadriplegic husband and is actively involved in their neighborhood c=
    rime
watch program. Linus and Sally continue to live in rural Vermont.

Pig Pen cleaned up his act... After college, he became a teacher at
Dinsdale Middle school in Trinidad, CO. His duties include teaching the
required coarse "Teenage Sexuality" to all 8th grade students. He keeps
himself busy during his off-time in the summer months... By day he breeds
chinchillas in his basement; He spends the evenings vandalizing the homes
of all known PETA members living in the Colorado area. (Hey, somebody
has to do it, right?) He is also single.

Lucy is the CEO of a mid-size insurance company in Dickinson, ND.
(A position formerly held by her husband, Francis) She enjoys water
sports and spends most of her free time (anytime) annoying the residents
and vacationers of northern Minnesota. Her pink 35 foot Bayliner "I am
Woman" can frequently be seen (like you'd miss it) on the waters of the
popular "Leech" and "Mille Lacs" lakes. She has received several citatio=
    ns
from the Minnesota DNR for playing slalom with smaller water craft.

Schroeder has disappeared off the face of the earth... It's rumored that
to avoid constant pursuit from Lucy, he went into hiding... Then sometim=
    e
in the late 70s he had his name legally changed to "Jordan" something???
He hasn't been heard from since...

Still don't like the way they look though....

Don't start with WYWH, just a suggestion - the vocals are a little..erm...y'know. Yeah. I actually think the best start point is probably P.U.L.S.E. - OK, hold the flams, please. Because you get a good overview of all the three eras of Floyd: Barrett, Waters and The David Gilmour Touring Band (!). From there, you can choose which song style catches you most AND you've got a far superior version of DSOtM already. Personally, my favourite album is The Wall, followed by Animals then Meddle (the latter can be considered a half-way point between psychadelia of Barrett and the brutality of Waters.

I think the best looking body I've ever seen on a guitar was on a Jackson Dinky - much like a JPM, but with fatter horns, which I prefer. If I ever win the lottery, I'll get uncle Ibanez to make me one with an Ibanez head, DiMarzio pickups, and a translucent British Racing Green finish on a 10 top. Dribble....

Floyd has a lot of cool stuff. It depends on what mood you're going for. I'd definitely recommend Meddle, Animals, and The Final Cut. Also check out "Amused To Death" from Roger Waters.

heh. the band must've noticed that too, if you noticed the dig on the monitors at the end of the solo ;)

    >LaBrie sounded great. I have noticed that he can go sharp at times.

He was singing in a different register, somewhat higher than anything I remember. It sounded good though.

    >If anyone else was at the show, I was sitting with three fans in the first >row of the balcony (one of the few places in the place where one can >actually sit). We had some of the best seats in the house!

*groan* I was on the floor, envying you *******s up in the balcony with the good view. Had I but known, I'd have shelled out twice the price.

Conversation between me and the doorman: "You guys really need more parking here. I just spent 40 minutes trying to find a spot." "Really? Where did you end up parking?" "Ummm.... Edwards Center?"

This was about 3 blocks away. Probably not bad, all considered, but when you start looking for any port in a storm and most of the local merchants are quite happy to call the tow trucks (I spotted two walking back to the venue), you get a little nervous when you aren't parking someplace recommended by the club's webpage. Being alone in a shady-looking part of the big-city doesn't help.

The place was sold out. Great for OFB, but for someone my height relegated to the middle of the floor (or behind a post. I opted for the floor) this did not help the view. My thanks to the ONE man that stepped in front of me that turned around and asked if I could still see (I could). :)

If anyone remembers bumping past a trashcan on the right-side wall, I was the guy that hid behind it to A. avoid the incoming slightly-full cups B. stop sidestepping and saying excuse me every 20 seconds! ;)

The show was great, and worth the hassle. Better still, I snagged the last free demo from one Michael Harris. Iffen you like DT's instrumental stuff, I highly recommend him. I'll probably order something of his as soon as I can locate someplace selling his stuff.

I don't cut off early Yes until Tormato/Drama (unless you mean REALLY early Yes, then Time and a Word). I'd probably have to have the EMS on call if they ever did TGOD live again, and I don't mean that overused snippet 'Soon'

Cheers for the advice, John. There's not a whole lotta electric going down (two 7-string parts on a couple of songs, and a strat for solos on a couple of things) but it's a pain trying to get a decent tone. Luckily or otherwise, I'm ont using a setup even remotely related to my usual live one, so that's cool.

I'll pay 'em $30 to have them play the WHOLE of ACOS. Well, it's only one song, right??!

Heh - mine was a Hondo. Red P-Bass copy, and it was so heavy that I might as well have strapped an anvil to my chest and banged it with a hammer. Sounded just about as good, too. But I did get a really cool Tronix Amp from a friend of mine. Thank God I've upgraded - I'd be stooped like Marty Feldman in "Young Frankenstein" if I still played that log.

Since somebody on the list had requested hearing what jammers had done and Korg had been the first volunteer, and now Andrew, I figured what the hell. It's not prog by a long shot, but it was fun. It was done on a 4 track in the basement of the guitarist's house. The group has since broken up, due to our guitarist getting out of Dodge (well, DC really). It's a RealAudio file, so don't expect mp3s.

The Band is called Spock's Beard and not Spock's Bears. The're named after the one episode of Star Track where Spock has a Beard (this is the truth!).

    Someone asked:

    > what DT boots do you consider "essential"/gotta have type pieces of any > fanatic's collection?

People have already mentioned some of the standard boots that everyone and his mother has. Lost in the Sky (excellent), The Dance of Eternity (excellent), Mind Control (average at best show, but good sound), Uncovered (would have been good if James wasn't sick as a dog that day), etc. It really depends on what you're looking for. If you want boot-scalper boots (ie, packaged boots like the ones above) and have to have the graphics, liners, etc, then you're missing out on 90% of the best shows available out there. 6/9/95 is a good example - the "Mercy Fuck" show. Also 2/22/95 (Derek officially announced as the new keys guy), the Home for the Holidays shows (which were originally done properly - in a tape tree, but have since been bastardized into scalper CDs), 4/16/97 (first live Trial of Tears), etc etc. Few of these have been "released" by punks trying to make money (thankfully), but are among the best of DT shows. Sometimes, you'll have to sacrifice sound quality to get a landmark show. The best example is 11/17/90, the all instrumental show between the Charlie and James eras. I uploaded this to Bogie's site after cleaning up the original source tape, but sound quality is still pretty poor. EXCELLENT show, but if you have to have a soundboard type sound (though I normally prefer a good audience recording to a soundboard) you're going to miss quite a performance.

My only advice would be not to ever buy these things. If you've heard of a bootleg at all it's easily available through trade from many people on this list. There's a ton of rare (none of the boot-scalper boots can even be considered rare anymore, nor the "rare" mp3s that have been used as filler on every bootleg imaginable) stuff out there that you can't buy at all. And if you just can't find anyone to get these from, email me. I'd rather spin it for you for free than you give money to some thief.

Take care all (Atlanta and Orlando shows, just a couple of weeks away - WOOHOO!!)...

    Adam
