    Message-ID: <007201bf7968$12723ee0$0201010a@meserver.meserver.com>

Having done the research, here's the scoop on Snoopy:
In the fall of 1978, Snoopy parted ways with his faithful master Charlie
Brown. His first owner, Lila, had become terminal with un unknown sickness
and he sought to console her in any way he could until her death on January
18th, 1979. It was later discovered that Lila had succumbed to AIDS, the
illness caused by the HIV virus.

Snoopy went on to work odd jobs in various small towns through the eastern
US such as a guard dog, a drug sniffer, and a nightclub dancer, yet couldn't
find fulfillment in any of his careers. In July of 1980, Snoopy filled the
void in his life by marrying Frieda, a french poodle he met while performing
in the Beagle Bros. Circus in Montreal, Canada. Together they settled down,
set goals, and persued them together.

Snoopy went on to become a notable romance novelist, having published his
first book, "Desirable Yearing" in 1983, he went on to release such works as
"Midnight Rain," "Pale Room," "Mrs. Dansbury' Daughter," and was rumoured to
have been involved with authoring the screenplay for "Fatal Attraction."
His trademark was beginning his novels with the phrase, "It was a dark and
    stormy night..."

In 1986, Snoopy's beloved Frieda left him for Mike the dog, the famed Collie
who starred in "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" and other various movie and
commerical roles. Frieda also became an actress where she took on small
roles in movies such as "K-9" and "Turner and Hooch." Mike the dog's career
took a dive in the early nineties when he turned to drugs and became
abusive. Frieda then left Mike the dog and disappeared from Hollywood.
Mike the dog chased his last car on March 30th, 1994. He was pronounced
    dead at the scene.

In 1993, Snoopy re-established the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm, rebuilding it from
the parking lot it once became. There he spent the years helping to place
puppies in loving homes for a dime a dozen.

Sadly, over the years, Snoopy succumbed the the hidden illness that plagued
his faculties and fully lost his identity. He believed himself to be a WWI
Flying Ace and was diagnosed with schitzophrenia and proclamined a danger
to himself and those around him. His owner's sister, Sally Brown,
authorized the document allowing veteranarians to put Snoopy Brown the
Beagle to sleep on November 12th, 1998. He was 350 years old.

    > Heh - mine was a Hondo. Red P-Bass copy, and it was so heavy that I might > as well have strapped an anvil to my chest and banged it with a hammer.

Folks, I'm only going to say this once. If you want to start playing guitar or bass, start with something good. Trust me, Hondo and Harmony and Cheapshit instruments have POOR resale value in the used market. You'll thank me later when you do decide to upgrade instruments, and when you walk into a music store to sell the old bass, none of the salespeople will silently snicker at your choice of instruments. I've seen used bass *straps* fetch more resale value than some cheap basses. :)

    > >That blue Music Man that JP is using sounds and looks amazing to me. > > I'm sorry, but I just cannot give my seal of approval to a guitar that > was endorsed by Richard Marx. :)

Isn't there a "statute of limitations" for musical instrument endorsements? There should be. That way, every 7 or 10 years or so, all the endorsements hereby become null and void, so all those now-called "sucky" artists who were shining examples of currently out-of-fashion music may not drag down the reputation of any instrument or family of instruments.

On the other hand, the Fender Jimi Hendrix signature guitar series would be pointless. Oh well.

I disagree, there. To me, starting on something shitty is the best way to go. I wouldn't suggest a person learn to drive with a Ferrari. First, if you're not even sure you'll like the instrument, a cheap $150 guitar isn't a big loss. I started with the cheapest piece of shit, acoustic harmony guitar, went to a cheap piece of shit Harmony Discovery (Harmony actually makes a low-end guitar if you'd believe it!), then a Harmony strat copy, then I got my used Ibanez RG. I'm still looking forward to the day i can get my own nice custom built guitar. :)

I notice my skill and enthusiasm toward playing improves each time I step up. It's a drawn out motivational process. I don't dead end myself by purchasing the best gear as soon as I start playing. Resell value or no.

If i ever start seriously playing drums, I'll for sure be getting a CB700 and make my own cymbals out of coffee can lids. :) -- KorgX3 is now a complete bass player with his RBX6JM. :) NP: Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting (For You).mp3 :P

Floyd has a lot of cool stuff. It depends on what mood you're going for. I'd definitely recommend Meddle, Animals, and The Final Cut. Also check out "Amused To Death" from Roger Waters.

I would suggest " Piper at the Gates of Dawn " This was the only Floyd record under Syd's direction. Some say this record is the first " Space Rock " record ever. Anywho, this album rocks. IMHO

All this talk about essential bootlegs (plus the fact i love live music) has me wondering something - admittedly pretty basic, so pardon my extreme ignorance. :-)

How does one go about beginning to collect these tapes? (CDs?) Having never gotten into boots, i (er, that this, this guy i know......) of course have nothing to trade. So how would i (er, he...) begin collecting? How does one feel comfortable about committing to a transaction with someone you likely never have met? Not saying that this something i definitely want to get into; but, OTOH, getting live recordings of my favorite bands is quite an appealing endeavor. So much to learn............

Check this service out. It allows you to transfer money directly from any credit (or debit) card to another person's account. I'll never have to mess with mailing out money orders again, or going to the grocery store to MoneyGram a friend some cash!

BTW...I used this to pay for an item I won on Ebay today, and it seems to work quite smoothly. They start you with a $200 max. xfer limit until they verify your mailing address (they send a card with a confirmation number to your house). Once they confirm physical location, the limit goes up to $5000.

It's got kinda a Multi-Level Marketing slant to it. You get $10 when you sign up, and I get $10 for any new people signing up from my referral. That's not my incentive for posting this, I just thought it was about time they came up with something this simple.

    Anyway...here's the link: https://secure.paypal.com/refer/pal=tbaddley%40aircell.com

Where's the DTC? Well, I figure that a lot of people here on the 'jam send money back and forth all the time for payments on CDs, guitars, etc. This could speed the process up a little. They say that it'll work for "anyone with an e-mail address"...so maybe we could use it to pay for things overseas and vice versa.

I caught the Denver show a week or so back...absolutely awesome. Everyone else has pretty much pointed out the good points..but I have to emphasize the one thing that stood out for me....THE MIX KICKED ASS! This was the 6th time I've seen them, but the first time the sound was right. No screwups...no silent mikes or instrument dropouts. I could hear John Myung so clearly, it almost made me cry! None of the bass "burping distortion" that I've heard at every previous concert (nor any of the "Silent Myung" syndrome we usually get). The video monitors were a cool addition, and filled the hole left by Derrick's lava lamps. I wish they had fleshed out the idea a little more...some cool effects and such, but someone with a Mac and about 3 weeks could probably do quite a bit better. The light show was also fantastic. Obviously computer controlled, they were the only thing saving the spotlight guys' jobs. I sat on the front-row middle of the balcony. Great sound, but unfortunately a LONG way from the stage (damn, why didn't I remember those binoculars?!). The synchronized lights really helped from this distance, where I couldn't make out that much detail of the guys. All in all, a fantastic show. Hmmm...I wonder if I need to take a "business trip" to Dallas here in a few week?

Some dude from some country far away spouted: >I didnt say all Americans I said American snobs. If you choose to put yourself >in that category, then I do mean you, Digital Man!

At the risk of defending D's anal virginity, I must say that I am proundly an American snob; perhaps even a middle-class American snob. What's your point, you ask? Not a one. One guaranteed way of getting me to post a stupid message to this forum is to mention the word "snob" somewhere. It will catch my eye as I scroll rapidly through the sloppy delivery of anal detritus that is this list.

Oh, about Porcupine Tree...isn't that just a fancy word for "Cactus"??? All you arborists (ha!) out there can now descend. Bub eye.

    >> The poor Milwaukeean.

I'm a little behind with the jam, but can someone explain this to me. :) I asked few jams ago HOW DO I MEET THE BAND after/before gig, and on the end of my post I said "The poor European".

Next jam I see my post replied with ">> The poor Milwaukeean". What the heck??? :( The dude tried to help me out with my question (and I thank you for that), but I don't see how he REALISED from my e-mail add (.mk) that I am from Milwaukee?!??! :)

    What? .mk = Milwaukee ???

BTW, to the dude who said I'm crazy complaining for being a European (since "we" get all the nice tours) lemme just say that Europe does not consists of Britain, France and Germany. There are some contries (like mine) that we're happy to see OFB come in our neighbour country, or in the one next to our neighbour country. :( So shut up, get in the car and drive those hard 4 hours to the next city and attend the DT gig, don't complain.

I think giving it to the end of this month is satisfactory. After that, I email Nicole and ask that another be sent. That seems fair.

    Hey everyone!

I just got back from the DT shows in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Chicago, and all I can say is that Dream Theater is at the top of their game. =A0I've never heard them so tight before. =A0I say heard because for two of the= three shows I was either in the very back behind a pole or way off to one side where I couldn't see Mike or John P. =A0But all in all, the music, musicianship, and sound were great. =A0:)

So after getting back and reading the latest jam, I see that a lot of people haven't received their Christmas CDs. =A0First, everyone who joined from the middle of December on will receive the second pressing of the CD. =A0Yo= u shouldn't expect those until late March at the earliest and probably not until April. =A0This is because the fan club ran out of CDs earlier tha= n expected (hence the repressing and extended deadline).

Second, I've received a lot of email from people who joined back in October or November (or were already members) who still haven't received their CD. Most of these people live in the northeast (Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, other "New" states). =A0Frankly, I don't understand why these people haven't gotten them. =A0I've called it to the attention of the guys in Holland, and I'm waiting to hear what they have to say. =A0So.. just sit tight for a little while longer.

Third, if you joined in the last 2 weeks, I probably have your application in with the huge pile of mail I've been getting recently. =A0(gee I wonder why?) =A0;) =A0I'm going to slowly start making my way through it starting right now, and I should be through it by the weekend.

Fourth, if you aren't a member of the fan club, you have until Feb. 29 to join. =A0But that means your application and dues must be IN MY BOX no =

later than 10 am Feb. 29. =A0If you're not sure if you're still a member, drop me an email at dtifc@yahoo.com and I'll look ya up. =A0And information on joining, as well as answers to a few frequently asked questions, can be found at http://www.mikeportnoy.com/usdtifc.html .
