i must disagree. Star People were damn cool. i've only heard a few Mr.
Bungle songs, but SP immediately struck me as being similar (serious/odd
music mixed with humor). SP's music was fairly progressive and quite
tasteful. i especially liked the violinist, Lorenza Ponce, and thought
her additions to the music were excellent. the keyboardist was no
slouch, either.
and how could one not laugh at their antics? i suppose one could not
laugh if they were a music snob (not musicsnob) and didn't think humor
had a place in serious music or music at all.
or look at it this way, if you had only listened to the cd and not seen
their live show, would your impression of them be any different? i

I have to add my "great job" comment for the lights at the show. They are excellent.
The video, on the other hand, is very poor. It looks like someone spent ten minutes fooling around with the chroma effects section of a Rev .01 Video Toaster. The beginning and end pieces are not bad, but I had hoped for something better, sort of like the stuff Queensryche projected behind themselves when they played Operation: Mindcrime. The video screens are sort of a waste, although they are put to good use just after Jordan's solo...

I think "Take the Time" from Images and Words is the definitive Dream Theater song. It twists and turns all over the place. The solos are great and the lyrics are great (can you tell it's my favorite song?). Plus it was the first song that I ever heard from Dream Theater, which makes it that more special.

Voices/The Silent Man make a pair marvelous works, great tunes with thoughtful lyrics. i could listen to these over and over; and i think it may be the best representation of DT's work, so far. I=92d say the =93A Mind Beside Itself=94 trilogy is the definitive DT = work. It has everything - cool lyrics, a kick-ass instrumental, good acoustic passages, nice guitar work, nice bass work (the intro to =93Voices=94 = esp.), nice drum work, nice keyboard work, fabulous vocals, good songwriting, = etc.

I had to overlook the fact that I am very busy these days to give the well-deserved lyric-writing credit to John Myung. Learning to Live. No further comments on that. Also, my IMfHO on "Mr. LaBrie on the new one". So, IMFHO, he sings great, and I wouldn't neccesarily base this only on tech, but I think it is remarkable how every line seems to be thaught out in all detail! Thaught out melody, "shape", breathing, etc, etc. I am not a singer, so I don't know all the words to decribe this thing I call "thaught out". Especially when I compare it to FII. But maybe it is better if I write not so understandable, because then you can't disagree!!!! ha! So, if I say I think that Metallica's S&M is holkrizously merdible, you can't really disagree, eh? :))

As for the jammers at the 9:30, I missed you all! Perhaps if I had worn the traditional Yzerman #19 you guys would have seen me. Mike Blevins has a point that it IS pretty odd that I meet him in line in NJ miles and miles away from home, but I don't see him 20 feet above my head. Hartman, were you on the upper deck in the corner (Petrucci's side)? I thought I saw you.

I know PL had an album that people said sounded like Depeche Mode, but didn't they go back to their doom metally roots? I haven't picked up the newest album yet. That'd be an awesome show though, combining two things I adore, doom metal and the UK.

Actually, what happened to Phil's voive was that he tore his vocal chords while recording Far Beyond Driven. Notice the singing on "This Love" amd Hollow, the listen to Planet caravan. he fuked his voice bad. I like the 1st two the best, they have gone balistic since VDOP IMHO.

I guess I will have to agree that Mike Portnoy is the greatest drummer, he is way up there. I know everybody has their own opinion. But I think many poeple will agree with me that Neil Peart has to be one of the greatest ever, not to mention Terry Bozzio. Neil, Mike, and Terry are three of the greatest drummers ever to live. Atleast they are in the field of prog rock stuff. Jazz, there are greats, like Weckl and Smith, but I really don't like them as much as I do Neil and Mike. Always listen to Rush. I like Geddy's voice. He is a good singer, just to high for many people's taste. By the way, I am also 15.

Well that folks is what happens when you fuck up, catch it, and do a shoddy job of correcting it.
