Okay, i have something to say to the dude who was complaining of some
immature people....Not all teenagers are the same, but I do admit that the
majority of our populace are airheads, potheads, ignorant, and immature, but
there is a good portion of us who are in fact NOT: airheads, potheads,
ignorant and immature...I dont see why anyone should hold a whole generation
responsible for the doings of some of our lesser people...it's not right.
It's not fair, but life's not fair, so tuff shyt. In any case, if I were at
that show, and there were a bunch of ditses rambling on through the show, not
paying attention and pissing me off, i'd probably give them a dirty look, and
if that didnt work, simply tell them to stop being idiots and if they didnt
wanna see Dream Theater or the Dregs or anyone else, then LEAVE......but
that's just me.......anywayz, me being 15, I say All Ages? You Know What to
    do...KEEP PLAYIN 'EM!!!!!!!!!

And what about us 17 year olds who love Dream Theater? My god, when I saw

You betcha. The Gene Simmons action figure doesn't come with Brian's
"penile clencher" action grip. And the Backstreet Boys action figures are
totally interactive with the Spice Girls ones. The best part is when the
Scary Spice doll makes the Nick doll cry and the AJ doll impregnates the

<< You know, you can't blame the big mega corporations for continually ramming endless amounts of shite such as BSB's, Ms. Spears, et al down our collective throats; after all, they are only trying to make a buck, right? >>

You're right. They are in it to make money so ya can't blame them for doing that. If I were a record complany exec, I may well be doing the same thing. However, You can question as to whether or not there is any integrity in doing this to which I would say no. But there are limits to how far companies should be allowed to go in order to make a buck. For instance, tobacco companies are in it for the buck and I CAN blame them for what they sell becasue it is harmful. Now, is record compainies putting put boy band albums harmful? Well, it's harmful to the integrity of the music business IMO, but it's a lot different that a tobacco company as well.

    >Now fuck me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the blame fall squarely on the >shoulders of the vast majority of vapid shitheads who automatically whore >themselves to the latest trends, lest they put themselves in the dubious >position of having to think and decide for themselves?

Yep, you're right on that. However, I think the thing that frustrates many people is that the record companies know EXACTLY what they're doing. The "vast majority of shitheads," as you call them, aren't really aware that these bands are just corporately manufactured products. SO, it's kind of useless getting mad at them for they no not what they do. I feel sad for them personally, and take some solace in the fact that they will more than likely outgrow this phase of their life. However, there is truly no hope at all for those in the upper 20's and older who enjoy this stuff IMO. -Mike C.

That's what one would hope, but most college paper editorials (to which reviews belong) are nothing more than an excuse for some kid who is afraid to ever be alone to show everyone how trendy he can be by only granting a positive review to so-called "college" music. (What the hell is college music anyway?)

I think Andrew defended them by sayin that their only purpose was to entertain, and sadly, even in a lget newspaper that's what they look for in a music critic - negative reviews keep people reading, jst by virtue of the fact that they piss people off enough to be curious.

True, it should be a journalistic exercise. It is a chance to develop and show individual writing style. The problem being that these reviewers had absolutely NO style - each of them (except the complete waste of space who didn't listen to the CD) did nothing more than to spout off a list of cliches. Cliches that were not so much based on the music they had just listened to, but on predjudice against what that music stood for 10 years ago, and fear of what positive comments about that kind of music would do to their "credibility."

Actually, I'm referring to the fact that the record companies are DELIBERATELY seeking out band members who meet the demographics through which they can most exploit record sales. They are putting these bands together themselves, based on looks and sales, rather than musical passion. Since you made the Nazi analogy, you could call it record companies building their "master music industry". To tell you the truth, Eckie, I'm an optimist and a humanist. I believe that if it weren't for the covert dirty tricks pulled by greedy fat corporate fuck-heads the music industry would be a lot better than it is (which does not mean, as some people believe, that everyone would sound like Dream Theater). Well all the night finally came to pass, and as has been documented on this list over and over--IT WAS AMAZING, yadda, yadda, yadda! So enough of that!

Boahager's- Awesome, although "strange" (in the words of KJL himself) venue. It was like an outdoor tiki bar under a large plastic/canvas airplane hanger! The acoustics were great and OFB sounded as crisp and tight as ever (although MP's kick drum always seems to swallow JM whole :-( I was slightly pissed that Bohager's lied to me! I was told that the show was pushed back to 9PM, and when arrived at 8:30 the Dregs were past the halfway point in their set! No biggy, I've seen the Dregs/Morse almost anually since 1980. (Does anyone remember a place called My Father's Place in NY?)

10 Things I Hate About OFB and Seeing them Live:

    1) I'm 5'6" and never get anywhere on-time! 2) When the volume is at the absolutely perfect level, where I don't need ear plugs-BUT I WISH IT WAS LOUDER! 3) I can see people singing along with the song, but those around and in-front of me aren't, and I can't carry a freaking tune to save my life! 4) I want' to burn my guitar after the show. 5) They play clubs - I drink - I have to go to the bathroom during the new, never-heard-him-before KYBD player's solo! 6) Thinking--HOW THE FUCK does Petrucci play that shit!--and then looking at JM and seeing that he's playing the same shit! 7) Medley song that end just when I'm really starting to get into it. 8) Medley songs that end right when the guitar solo is about to start. 9) I never seem to run into any of you people at shows--sniff :-( 10) You CAN'T convince someone like DT anymore than you can convince them to like spicy food!

    Peace, I-Man

I just got in from the Bohager's show. Now first off, I'd like to say that Bohager's really fucked up that bar (it used to be parrot island, an outdoor theme bar) by adding that rediculous b(l)ow-dome, when it does look like an aircraft hanger. the accoustics for the place were pretty decent, although myung had some major probs with his bass early in the set. i didn't like the fact that the bar didn't dim too many of the lights, so it kinda ruined the lighting effect. even James L. had something to say about the venue, I think his words were "pretty strange venue." the music was great, MP was really on, and so was JP. Another great solo by JR, and James's voice was fantastic. I just wished they would have switched up the ending medley. i was at the show in philly, and saw the exact same set. but it was still great. side note: I CAUGHT AN AUTOGRAPHED DRUM HEAD FROM MP!! i was so jakked, i had to wrestle it from some drunken asshole who thought he was at a korn concert w/ his slam dancning. moshing is cool and all, but not at these concerts. i just wanted to get my review in. great show though!!

Hey, Drain's a great band. The fact that they're hot-chicks is a nice bonus, but it ain't the reason I bought their albums. There isn't even a picture of them in their first album's liner notes (done purposefully so as to build authenticity within the metal community I hear).

Fast fact (on a mildly related note): Did you know Carmen Electra has an album? I found it at the radio station the other night. Pretty scary stuff.

    hi everybody!

I got this from TNT-mailinglist and it compares TNT-vocalist Tony Harnell= to above mentined vocalists:

"Ray Alder is a very good singer. Mark Slaughter has a pretty high range, but sounds like a cat on fire. I never liked Kiske's tone at all either. He's way too thin sounding. James LaBrie, to me, is a Tony wannabe who just can't pull it off. (He'd probably=20never admit it publically, but I've actually heard him say it.) For one thing, he can't sing high without going really rough and scratchy. He's probably the best they could find at the time, but I don't think his talent is nearly up to the caliber of the rest of the Dream Theater guys. In that sort of genre/vocal style, Mike Matejevic from Steelheart can pretty much pull off whatever he feels like, recorded OR live. IMO though, none of these guys have the level of proper singing technique and prettiness to their voice that Tony has."

IMO, KJLB is capable of exact same things vocally as MR. Harnell. Any thoug= hts about that=3F=3F

Happens on my copy as well. Glad to know it's not just mine. Well, at least there's about 73 minutes of music not counting WTSR?, so it's not too bad. It's the only Stratovarius album I have, how representative is it of their music? Also, anyone else think the cover art is awful?

Dream Theater and the Dixie Dregs got a favorable, although not wonderful-wow-they-blew-my-socks-off review in today's Boston Globe on page F7, in the living arts section.

For what it's worth, I think the Globe probably has the highest circulation in the state. And it's nice to see that they made it to the sold out show.

Personally, I thought the crowd was more into it than at the Toad's Place show, but the fact that there was elbow room may account for this.

Quick hi (before Jeremy can do it) to everyone we saw there, from Greg and Helen (the Canadians have arrived! ;), Mike B, Pat, Skadz, Bogie, Matt-from-Event, Ed (who almost didn't get in, whatta lewser), Tarkus, and the others I'm sure he'll remember. :)

    Hi everyone...

I've been thinking for a while something that came few weeks ago, about=

some guitarists and their abilities... I play some guitar (altough I m= ust tell I'not a very good one) and here is a list of the guitarists IMO ar= e some of the most valuable... Please, I expect to hear your comments:

    1. Jimi Hendrix (no comments...) 2. Randy Rhoads - definately one of the most emotional guitarist. His unique sound made much people think that ' He should have been the greatest...' 3. Jimmy Page ( no comments...) 4. Tony Iommy - I personally don=B4t like the way he plays, but I must = agree that this mans breathes and sweats pure heavy metal, and he knows how t= o tell the world... 5. Ritchie Blackmore (no comments...) 6. Eddie Van Halen - I think his tapping technique is kinda legendary= .. 7. Joe Satriani ans Steve Vai - I didn't know if split them. I think th= ey grew togheter as musicians... 8. Yngwie Malmsteen - OK, the guy doesn't has the words 'emotion' or 'decent lyrics' in his dictionary, but his 'fater-than-light' technique= has influenced (once again, IMO) many guitarists such as Joe Stomp, Michael=

Romeo, Tony MacAlpine... 9. KK Downing. I think if there=B4s someone that understood Hendrix, an= d put it into his own style and kind of music, is this guy... One of the most=

valuable and strong lead & rythm guitar... 10 Of course, John Petrucci. I think the guy took the best of all of th= e above (not pretty sure of KK influence...) and now became one of the mo= st complete and influential guitarits around...

By the way... anyone has heard of "Heads or tales"?? I think the vocals=

suck, but the band is in general pretty good... Thanx, AB =

At first I wondered which Ytsejammer could have written something so bluntly condescending. Then I thought, "gee, it's nice to see Dr. Mosh is still around." ;)

Subj: A Brief Word On Dr. Mosh Date: 98-11-08 02:54:11 EST ]From: Uroborosss@aol.com To: ytsejam@ax.com

These are my impressions, carven over a period of many years, of the man they call Dr. Mosh. I'm sure he has a real name, but speaking it aloud would be like challenging Portnoy to a long-distance beer-spewing contest - you just don't do it because pain is the result. This post is primarily for anyone new to the list. It also serves as a refresher for anyone who's been here since the beginning and has fallen under the hazy impression that Dr. Mosh is a nice guy. Snap out of it.

Dr. Mosh doesn't have anything nice to say about, to, or in defense of anyone. If you consider yourself an ally of Dr. Mosh you may as well carve a slot in your back with a sign that says "place dagger here." When Dr. Mosh was five years old he got into an argument with a kid in a sandbox. He then gave his lunch money to some big kids on the playground and got them to flip the sandbox over on top of Poor Bastard #1. If you check Dr. Mosh's diary you will see that sandbox-sandwiched kid listed as "The Prime Poor Bastard - the bastard who first caused the internal and eternal spring of caustic venom to well up within my soul."

Dr. Mosh has made no attempts to plug up this spring of evil, in fact he has a spigot between his ribs which he uses to periodically drain his bulging soul and fill up large metal kegs with his special brew of gloom and doom. He serves the stuff at college dorm parties, which results in the instant death of everyone who drinks it, allowing Dr. Mosh to destroy everything in their crappy cd collections, which is anything Dr. Mosh himself doesn't listen to.

On Dr. Mosh's wall you will find a collection of abandoned hubcaps, which Dr. Mosh considers to be his only true friends in life. When he's feeling down, which is always, he hammers the hubcaps with his fists, a bonding experience that he simply can't share with human beings without going to prison. The hubcaps are named after the gods of death, plague, destruction, and the underworld, taken from religions and folklore the world over - Anubis, Satan, Neptune, Shiva, etc.

Dr. Mosh's diet consists of sawdust, motor oil, cute little puppies, and shards of broken glass preferably from shattered stoplights because he doesn't stop for ANYONE. When he isn't in the mood for a full meal he relies on small chunks of concrete to keep him going, sometimes preferring to gnaw on his trusty iron baseball bat, Excaliber. He named it Excaliber in 1991 after he realized he could use it to destroy any and all grade-school children's science projects. This helps him in his quest to eliminate other people's sources of inspiration and happiness, which is his ultimate goal and sole purpose in life.

Dr. Mosh hates your guts. He always has. He always will. If your aim is to gain his affections or understand him, kill yourself now because both of those things are impossible. Knowing Dr. Mosh in real life is about as pleasureable as putting on a suit of thorns and swimming around in a sea of lemon juice. Believe me. I KNOW.

If you believe what I just wrote, then you believe exactly what Dr. Mosh wants you to believe. Letting him get to you is about as healthy as letting ME get to you. Snap out of it. ;)
