I really know how you feel duke! Though I'm in a tad bit better
    situation,
I'll still have to travel through half the Italy or Austria and most of
    the
Germany to see them. Goddamn! I really hope these are not the final
    dates,
because eastern Europe got completely cut off... again! I don't mind
traveling to Munich or Milan, but this time it's really pushing it, give
us a break, will ya? :) We want more shows! :)

The text is actually from some visions that a one Veronica Lueken had
experienced (allegedly that is)... Here's a link if you are interested...

BTW, as for the actual recording of the text, Kevin probably just ran the text
through a speech synth of some kind or read it himself with weird filters on
    his voice...

I had the pleasure of seeing Metallica twice a year or two ago and I must say, whilst their latest CDs leave something to be desired, they still f**king rock in concert. Their rhythm guitar tone is one of the best you'll find. Also, even though I don't much like their Load and Reload, some of my favourite moments were when they played songs of those albums. Metallica hasn't lost their ability to rock, they've just lost their senses a bit I think.

I learned it is from a doomsday profecy from some nuthead. You can check www.tldm.org (These Last Day Ministries). The full profecy is about 20 pages :/ It is performed by a program that converts text into speach, possibly TextoLE (at least it sounds a LOT like that program, I had it a while ago). Feel free to correct me since I really haven't got a clue :)

Got one right here! I've never really been into them at all. My motto is "just say no to yes!" That's just a joke though. I got nothing against them or their fans or anything, I'm just not into them. It would be cool though if opening for them would help DT's sales. I think it could happen to some younger Yes fans. -Mike C.

Second things first, why anyone would make generalizations about what fans of one band "must" like is beyond me. Most of the members of this list don't like jazz. Some of us do. Nothing in life is a constant. I know about 3 DT fans in my area who like Yes. I know probably 2 dozen more who don't (though some of them like "Owner of a Lonely Heart"... but that's Cinema, not Yes). There's no harm in these kinds of simple generalizations, but there's also no validity, and no point.

As for DT tour dates, there are some people who will get screwed, mainly because you live in areas that always have been screwed, and always will be screwed for concerts. I've never seen some of my favorite bands, because they only tour Europe, and I live in the greatest city in the US. But consider this, US people, there's a long history of dedication to the band, present in a lively form on this list. It used to be a ritual to go to the east coast from wherever you live... California, Atlanta, Chicago, etc to see the holiday shows. Maddy and I picked up on it, and were inspired to drive out there with Bogie last time, and it was worth every penny, just experiencing that. I think we share everyone else's disappointment that they didn't have a holiday tour this year. It's the experiences we take away from this stuff that matters anyway. you can experience sitting on your ass in front of your computer bitching, or you can take the road trip. Chances are there's a show in your range.

And of course this screws the younger fans, but that's a tradition too... it makes turning 21 even more valuable. As a result of my age I was too young to see most of my childhood idols live. Now one of them is wheelchair bound and can no longer play, and one of them died in a car wreck... it's life.

I'll see some of you at the Chicago, Milwaukee and LA shows!

heh...never drove it, but DC isn't the closest show to New Orleans, so the question is moot.

    > The show in DC will be large...

I'm guessing you're not referring to the size of the venue because I've heard the 930 isn't that big.

    > I > would suggest heading to that one...AND, if you're a true DT fan, you might > want to make the drive...;)

Well, Orlando would actually be the closest show to him from what I can tell looking at the listing. That's drivable in a day, although seeing a concert and then driving back within a day would be near impossible. Sounds like a good seed idea for a new "Smokey and the Bandit" movie, though.

I happen to live in Holland, where DT gave a show in November. Kicked ass by the way.. I also regret that they don't seem to come over here to play SFAM completely, BUT I just received the fanzine TOD (including the X-mas cd which kicked major ass IMHO, but I won't spoil anything), and there I saw the same European tourlist, with a little note on the bottom on the page:

"Note to the Dutch dreamheads: Dream Theater will (hopefully) play in Holland during their summer-tour."

I guess this implies that Dream Theater will tour in Europe again this summer. This doesn't imply, but makes it pretty plausible that they will come to other countries than the ones they tour this spring.

I will have patience and confidence that they visit Holland again... I hope they come to your country (which country do you live in btw?) also.. Regards, Wouter Valentin

hi, actually and I hope I put this in a way that even Steffen might be prompted to prove me, German has two 'ch'-sounds. One in the way Andrew mentioned. A front consonant, africative for those who what that is. The tongue touches the sides a bit, but air is allowed through, as well as on top of it. It sounds in deed a little bit like the 'h' in >human< and is used for example in the German word for >I<: >Ich<(which you usually pronounce >Ick<(as in "Ick bin ein Berliner") The other one is the one Korgy described And the one used in >acht<(eight). It is a fricative as well, but unstressed, hard and produced by letting the tongue touch the little penis in the back of your throat (I think that was called thyrinx, it's been some time). It's a sound very familiar in Netherland or Schwarzenegger movies. If you put your tongue in the position to say >ackt<, but don't form the plosive and press some air through instead(like you do with fricatives) you should have it. Hope that helps. BTw, it is fuenf (five), not fumpf and this ue sound for which we actually have a different letter is produced by making an >ee<-sound, as in >bee<, where your lips should be formed somewhat similar to a horizontal line and than transform your lips into a circle without changing the arrangement inside your mouth. Give it a try, Seb ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I'm cool with this venue....but the last show I saw there was Joe Satriani, and they had seats going....kind of a trip seeing all those ridiculous lasers going on, and then watching everyone down below (i was in the balcony) trying to get into the show while planted on their asses.....as long as its general admission, I'd say it's a step up from the place DT has played the last couple of time thru Detroit.

We've already heard some comments on the Philly venue.....what about the rest of the tour sites? Is DT playing a better or worse class of halls this time around, or pretty much the same style venues?

Well, the one time I have seen JP use the double neck was during Take Away My Pain during the the Fix for 96 shows (An Evening of New Music), before FII came out. Not sure if he actually used it on the CD though.

As for the upcoming shows.... Right now the plan for me and some friends is New Haven (if confirmed), Philly, New York and Boston :) (you CAN'T see DT just once in the space of a few days). There is also a _VERY_ small chance I may show up at the Vegas and LA shows, but that is an extremely small possibility :)

towards the end of last year I tended to let myself slip with regard to reviewing new CDs in my collection. This was mostly due to work. Anyhoo, thinks have become more or less reasonable again, and I'll be bashing out the first reviews soon (over the weekend, hopefully). The first batch will include

I wanted to put the feelers out now and see if there are any Detroit area jammers out there willing to help me out. I'm a Canuck boy from cattle country who by some stroke of luck (or divine intervention perhaps?) is going to be in East Lansing on the 18th of February. I'd give my left nut to see DT live, so if anyone can help me get to the show and point me to a nice, roach-free hotel in Detriot close to the venue, I'd really appreciate it. I'll probobly have a rental van if you need a lift. Please mail privately.

Actually, in strict terms, it's not a back-throat consonant at all (thank you diction for singers class). I mean, different dialects do it different ways, but in Hoch Deutsche, ch is a fronted consonant, and the best way I've ever been able to compare it to the English language is the exact same sound you make at the beginning of the word "human."

Actually, in strict terms, youre both right. ch is pronounced differently, depending on the word its in. for example the number eight, acht, has that hairball-hacking-throught sound, while the pronoun I, ich, has the soft h-chy sound. in "hochdeutsch". yes. musical content no.

Ha! Ha! You must have been listening to it backwards. If you listen to it forwards, it sounds like German, but that is just a trick. Kevin Moore is a very dedicated devil-worshipper. Most of his lyrics with Dream Theater had clever subliminal messages meant to destroy the Catholic Church and drive up the Stock Market. I think it may be working....the apocalypse is not far behind.

P.S. You may want to try a Rorschach Inkblot Test. It is a well known fact that these tests are actually filled with Satanic images and symbols.

Make that two! I haven't heard anything by them (not that I know of anyway), and I didn't even know they existed until about a year ago. So there ya go...

-Meandering through johnpetrucci.com (OK, I was bored...) I noticed that in his list of guitars, there's a "Custom Double Neck (Lexus)" and a "Blue Burst" - anyone have any idea what these are or when/where JP's used them?-

The "Custom Double Neck (Lexus) is a 12/6 string doubleneck that JP used on the pre-FII european tour dates, although I've never seen a video of him using it - the closest I've come are some photos in the DTIFC fanzine a few years back. "Blue Burst" is a custom Ibanez seven string that he used approx. from the 95 "Home for the Holidays" shows to the pre-FII tour dates. You can see John use this guitar of the Ibanez "Seventh Heaven: promo. video. The main point that I see is that these guitars were not standard JPM models (no Piscaso Graphic, flamed wood-bodies). Hope this helps :)
