Yeah!!! I mean, I couldn't agree more with you here... Santana has
been a guitar hero (I don't think one has to have amazing technique
to be a guitar hero) for over 30 years now... Just check out his
performance in Woodstock and you'll see how great this guy is... It's
nice to see him finally get recognized, but it's also sad that it's
happened with his worst cd... But Santana is a great player, and if
getting all of this pop stars to sing with him is what was necessary
for people to finally pay attention to the great things he can do, I
say so be it... I'd rather have Santana playing 30 times a day in my
I just wanted to say that as a big fan of Dream Theater I really appreciate
the very reasonable ticket prices for the US tour. $25 for a concert in
San Francisco is very cheap. So, Mike, thanks for not gouging us like some

This emotional song thread... I just had to join in and say that
Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 6 "Path=E9tique" is THE emotional piece.

Those of you who haven't heard it, if you're in search of something
emotional, this is a MUST HEAR.

Wanna know something even more sickening? I was flipping through the channels yesterday and Roma Downey, whom you may remember from such TV shows as "Touched By an Angel", was hosting a tribute to great women of the 90s. Some of the honorees were Jody Foster, Aretha Franklin and.... Christina Aguilera? Yes folks, the genie in a bottle is one of the most influential women, if she's even old enough to be a women, of the decade.

But then I saw a middle aged man in a sweater with a guitar and drum machine in the middle of the mall singing "La Vida Loca" and I remembered that yes, life is good ;)

    Hello Ytsejammers!

I've just uploaded to my Xoom acount one of the best DT covers I've ever heard! "The Mirror", by the brazilian band Sigma 5. It also includes the Lie solo (with some new parts). It's worth to check it out, the quality of the recording and the mixing is as good as the original, and the bass is a bit louder. The URL is:

    http://members.xoom.com/frauber/sigma5-mirror.pdf

PS: The file is a MP3, but because Xoom don't allow me to post mp3s, I had to rename to .pdf. You can open it with Winamp or any other MP3 player. Also, if you can't download from this links, just type http://members.xoom.com/frauber/ and click on the file "sigma5-mirror.pdf".

PS2: You can find more info on this band on www.sigma5.com. It's prog-metal with portuguese lyrics.

PS3: No, I'm not a member of this band :). Just a hardcore fan.

Well, I just listened to this song, and I must say that the musicianship is incredible. The vocals leave something to be desired, though. I don't say this for any reason about his voice per se, but to tell the truth, he sounds pretty ridiculous trying to sing those English lyrics with that accent and the inflections he puts in; it's pretty funny.

Not that it's bad - I know how tough it is to sing in other languages without any kind of an accent (it's nearly impossible to really sing Italian well and not sound like an American trying to sing in a foreign language; I'm not even going to TOUCH all the things I had to learn to sing in German), and the song is done VERY well (even those sound samples they tried to put in). The vocals, however, due to the accent, was the weakest link. DEFINITELY a must-download, though. The MP3 could have been higher quality too, not that I'm complaining. :)

Personally, I don't even care who's nominated and who's not for the grammys. The thing's a joke anyway. I mean, in 89 Jethro Tull won a Grammy for best metal album over Metallica's An Justice For All and Queensryche's Operation Mincrime! Hell have the poeple who own the CD probablt never knew who he was.

Example 1: My girlfriend. The first time she heard the song. "Some crappy band ripped off some old bands name"

I am well aware of his success in the past, and his bpm go up for a moment in some of the solos, but without the poppyness of Rob thomas on that song, it would not have been as successful. Say Geoff Tate sang it instead of Rob. Would it had caught on. No. Matchbox 20 groupies haven't had a tasty treat to snack on since 1996, and this song was their way of getting more Rob. Kinda like us and LTE, Mullmuzzler, Platypus etc. We need some more between Cds to keep us going.

Since Spock's Beard will be touring with DT in Europe, it would be interesting if the Morse brothers (Neal and Al) could perform the parts of the brothers in Scenes From A Memory.

A full theatrical production of the album would require a different singer for each character anyway, and Neal and Al are very capable singers . . .

I'm sure that Ryo Okumoto would be great as Victoria too. ;-)

Hey guys, remembered when JP started selling his Ibanez Guitars a few months ago ?

    That was only a sign...

Today I was reading the forum at www.jemsite.com (a wonderful site btw), and someone told that JP was leaving Ibanez for Music Man, the thread extended until a guy named Todd post a email written by Rena Petrucci.

    Here's Todd's Post to the forum: ===========================

By J. Todd Beachler (Biggestmuff) on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 - 05:04 pm: Well, I didn't want it to turn out this way. I didn't want to believe any of the rumours so I emailed John's wife, Rena. She responded with this:

*** Dear Todd, It seems that John and Ibanez couldn't agree on some contractual issues and have parted. He still stands by the quality of Ibanez guitars and will continue to use them on the upcoming tour. He will however be endorsed by Ernie Ball when the term (app.5 months) is up.

    Sincerely,Rena Petrucci ============================

I only wish he didn't leave Ibanez for MONEY issues... Kudos to Steve Vai who's been with Ibanez for 15 years !

c-ya, Gilberto (now with a broken heart because of JP, but still a proud Ibanez user)

Alright, I'm probably gonna get eaten alive for saying this, but I don't care...

I don't think Santana is all that great of a guitarist. I listen to Smooth w/ my friends and they all say "Wow, listen to him wail, he's shredding that thing up." But he's NOT. It's not a particularly challenging solo at all.

His music is cool for its groove, but not for his guitar work. But I suppose there's a place for the simple and tasteful...

hey all, Apparently Marty has left Megadeth to pursue a solo career. I am a Megadeth fan, but all I can say is thank God. He just didn't seem into it the last time I saw them. Maybe he'll hook up with Menza and kick ass again. I am still shocked at this, with Risk going Gold and everything.

I dont know if youve listened to anything other than something out of his last album, but he really rips it up and wails on his other work.. If youve only listened to smooth or that album youre missing out on what santana really is..

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I was just putzing around with my keyboard and decided to put on ACoS and try to jam along with it. I was wondering if anybody had any actually notated music to this song (any of it), because I just don't know how the fuck to read keyboard tablature, and besides, there's only PMU on the website. Anybody know where I can find any of this?

<< Best new artist: Kid Rock, Britney Spears, Christina Aguliketofuckher. >>

Didn't Christina "riding on britney spears' coattails" just pop into the studio for two hours, do two takes and have the sound editors edit out and patch up all her mistakes? and she might be best new artist? ::thumbs up:: that what i heard anyway.

Anyway, I noticed no one has mentioned "Emma" from Neal Morse as an emotional song. I really think it is good work.

One more thing. On the "thoughts" list there is a thread about Pain of Salvation going. Is anyone else dissapointed with Entropia in comparison to One Hour By The Concrete Lake? What am I not seeing in this album that everyone else is?
