That's a good point. I see that kind of thing a lot with other bands too. I
guess that in a lot of cases the record company has the option to terminate
the contact if they see fit perhaps? Or maybe the band still gets some kind
of base amount of money out of the deal but the record company just decides
to cut their losses and not release any more albums from them? Who knows here
huh.

Wow, what a game! I was glad they won cause I'm a huge Penn State fan and I
rot for a ll the Big Ten teams in the New Years Bowl. It was nice to see the

The bands labled as sounding "80s" are usually from the early '90s, so
figure the kids of tomorrow will be complaining about whoever's popular
next year.
On tapeswapping, I'm all for it. Of course, I imagine there's a big enough
percentage of us now with CD-burners that we could do a
CD-R/tapeswap. Anybody?

Hey jammers,
Well I just have to put a word in edgewise here and try to make sure
people don't get the wrong impression of "Christianity" from that guy's
website. Yeah he obviousely is a Fundamentalist Christian who is way to
one side. But, speaking as a Christian who freakin loves rock and roll
for the MUSIC I have to stress to you all not to try and judge all
Christians by this guy's website. I think I went to the same lecture on
music that this guy went to and it actually peaked my interest. Now I
have to say I think Marylin Manson is an idiot IMHO, but judging bands
like Alice in Chains and the Flaming Lips by three words in a song is
just kind of out there. (although I read somewhere that manson said he
really does all his antics and such mainly to get a rise out of
people???) And as far as the backmasking goes I just don't get how they
come up with that stuff??? It surely didn't stop my band of 4 Christian
guys from making good rock and roll and even covering Zeppelin tunes in
our concerts... This guy is very right wing fundamentalist and he makes
it look as if ALL Christians are this way. Believe me when I say that at
least i am not... I guess if he saw my CD collection he would call me a
devil worshiper also but i can tell you he would be way off.... Now,
don't go flaming me... I am only trying to open up some eyes that this
guy seemed to want to shut...
ps: Korg: he actually did mention Sabbath on page 2 i think... I think he
mentioned Ozzy in with it...

I'm going to have to disagree with you there, Mr. T -- I saw 'em in Philadelphia (also opening for the Tentacles) and thought the band one of the most bizarre/entertaining live acts I've ever witnessed. Their gimmick is that they're aliens, aliens who learned about earth culture through 1950s television -- every song has a topic along those lines. The music is sort of a quirky lounge, like some of the stuff Mr. Bungle does. I really have no idea why they were picked as the OT opener, though. Not even close to same style.
By the way, if anybody knows of a website for the above band, please pass on the URL. I've been unable to find anything. I am weak.

I know that topics of religion are supposedly a no-no on the jam, but I gotta clear some stuff up, and if I get banned for it, then I get banned for it. Not because I expect everyone else to be just like me, but because most people that flame Christianity don't really understand what it's all about. And I can see why, because it's a horrenously misrepresented religion. I'll try to clear stuff up as best as I can. First of all, religion is pointless if you don't completely believe in it. You can't just "kinda sorta" believe in a religion. With that in mind, you must understand that Christians have complete faith. I believe this faith comes from God's holy spirit. I realize that most of you probably don't believe that, but you must understand that, wherever that faith comes from, it IS there. The basis of Christianity is that everyone is a sinner, and therefore deserves death. But God is merciful, so, as Jesus Christ, he took the punishment for our sins. All we need to do is believe in Christ to be forgiven. So therefore, if you don't believe in Christ, you aren't forgiven. That's why Christians come off as closed-minded. We're not trying to make everyone like us just so we can be the coolest religion in the world, but because we care about non-christians. If you truly believed that someone was about to get hit by a train, you'd try to get 'em out of the way, right? Well check out www.durp.com for CDs that cover a selection of prog and prog-metal bands.
Verglas in the UK have also done cheap samplers for their artists, which can be purchased from their website at http://www.verglas.com/
Its a shame that the likes of InsideOut don't do such a thing - they have a great roster of artists. They did do a sampler last year in France, which contain tracks from Tiles, Spocks Beard and 4 others, which was free if you bought albums from 2 of the artists - not much of a temptation IMHO.
Alex, if you're interested I was looking to offload my copy of the DURP sampler vol II and a heap of magazine samplers, which have exhausted their useful life. You're welcome to them - just drop me a line with your address

Actually, I sensed nothing of an anti-Christian thread forming. That person who wrote the Rock Deception site obviously was one of those waaaaay left freakies. I mean, read his little biography. He totally blames listening to rock for his decent into drugs and mysanthropy. Whatever. It's about as stupid as people blaming games like Doom for all of the schoolyard shootings. They just can't face the reality that the devil didn't make them do it, but they brought it upon themselves. It's just easier for people to blame their troubles on something else. Seriously, that is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. I wouldn't really call it progressive rock, but whose to say prog can't have emotion?

The only thing giving Christianity a bad name is people like you jumping to defend when there's nothing to defend against. Some guy (or girl) makes this ridiculous web page and we laugh at it, pointing out how ridiculous it is and how stupid this person is making themselves look. This person is obviously a fanatical, fundementalist, old-school Christian. One of those no-sex-before-death types. So we're making light of the fact, and now we're "anti-Christian"? sorry, but no.

State of Grace was the first song that really put tears in my eyes in a prog setting. I thought it was the most gorgeous piece I'd ever heard by a piano and guitar.
And then I heard Hourglass on LTE2. And I immediately changed my favorite most emotional piece I'd ever heard - Hourglass is leaps and bounds so much better than State of Grace. I think that the difference between the electric and the acoustic guitar is big enough that the two songs could even be in two different categories, but I will hold my opinion that Hourglass is SO much better than State of Grace.

Once again I see your CD/mp3 collection is great.... The guys in my band told me to check out TOTO's drummer if I wanted to hear some fantastic stuff, but I never got around to it... Who is their drummer and if i were to buy one CD to turn me on to TOTO which one would it be? Please feel free to deluge me with replies...
