That's pretty damn good, but here's my list:
Nicholas: Nicholas Cage
Victoria Page: Catherine Zeta-Jones OR Gwyneth Paltrow
Senator Edward Baynes (The Miracle): Matt Damon
Julian Baynes (The Sleeper): Brad Pitt
The Hypnotherapist: Christopher Walken (he'd be perfect)
And the older man in Fatal Tragedy: James Earl Jones

Hi all
yes, the waiting is over. And the winner is...
BRITANNY SPEARS!
Only joking, it's good for morale.
First off, thanks to the 40 or so people who submitted
lists. As I suspected, places 1 and 2 were basically
foregone conclusions. There are, however, some very
interesting albums in the list, some of which I'll
almost certainly be looking/listening for in the near
future. There were a couple of people who sent lists
so predictable that I could have written them myself,
but I think the wide range of bands and musical styles
represented shows us what diverse musical tastes are
present on the list. Oh, and if you're wondering, the
numbers in brackets indicate the number of votes for

Hey all,
First of all: I wish U all a happy new year/decade/century/millennium!
Second: this will (probably) be my last post to the 'Jam, so goodbye for
now.
Third: Mikel (in 'Jam 5254) was talking about similar riffs in music.
Listen to The ones who help to set the sun (the bass-intro played with
harmonics). THen listen to 'The fall of reason' by Watchtower, about
3:10 minutes into the song. There's that same basspart, only played much
better by Doug Keyser.
I've brought this up allready about a year ago, but it's still a nice
thing to here. It makes you wonder if maybe John M. and Doug K. knew
each other. Both albums, WDADU and Control and Resistance are from 1989.
Great album by Watchtower, by the way. To bad it's their only album.

Charlie was the best! What's wrong with you? Do you
have a tin ear? ;o) [tic]
Your quote of "DT is not DT without Charlie" sounds
like something I wrote. It's amazing how funny that
sounds out of context...
I wrote that during the mini-debate over who could
replace MP in DT. Some people cried out that DT would
not be DT without MP. My point was that every time any
band member leaves, that same opinion comes out from
somebody. My reference to Charlie was just to
illustrate this fact, and that it had occured when
Charlie left, as well as when Kevin and Derek left.
Same old conversation, over and over..."Band member X
left band Y and now it's not the same. They should
change their name to Z".

Don't fundamentalists just piss you off sometimes (alot for me)? First when
they proclaimed Van Halen as being Satan worshippers I thought that was
laughable, but I about shit myself when they debunked Jewel. lol. Funny how
they didn't mention anything of Ozzy Osbourne or Black Sabbath. Both are
equally as notorious as Led Zeppelin if not more. hehehe. Ah, well. It
kind of reminds me of this whacko fundamentalist that comes to town every
year and gets parents all riled up for a couple of days by preaching (and
saddeningly convincingly, it seems) that the Smurfs are the little blue imps
of Satan come to lure our young children away from Jesus. Surprising, he
had nothing to say about the Snorks who were fantastical (and obviously
evil) underwater creatures who breathed through phallic looking appendages
attached to their heads.
Anyway, I sent those guys a good old fashioned tongue-lashing. Hopefully
they send me a water soluble "666" tattoo or something.

Yup! It's the spot in "Freedom of speech" that starts at about 3 minutes into the song. "Meeting of spirits" is a very good song by the way. I found it on a jazz-compilation CD that my dad got for Christmas. You wouldn't happen to know which album it's on?
As for emotional songs, here are some of my current favourites: (I would actually say that all good songs are emotional in some way)
Dream Theater - Scarred, WFS/LTL, Finally free Fates Warning - The eleventh hour, Don't follow me, APSOG Queensryche - Promised Land, I will remember, The mission, Eyes of a stranger Anathema - Judgement, Fragile Dreams, Empty Marillion - Most of Brave, The space... Genesis - I find most of "The lamb lies down on broadway" very moving (excepting e.g. Counting out time :) Other artists that can be very moving as well are: Rush, Savatage, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Loreena McKennitt, Peter Gabriel, Tiamat, etc, etc, etc....

Actually, I find it quite ironic that they think us to be the misled ones, the ones who need guidance, when it's really themselves. I don't get pissed off at them as much as I feel REALLY sorry for them. I mean, whatever happened to "love your neighbor as you would love yourself?" (Sorry to you non-christians, athiests, and those of you who really don't like to hear Bible quotes.) These people really really have things backwards.
> First when they proclaimed Van Halen as being Satan worshippers I > thought that was laughable, but I about shit myself when they debunked > Jewel.
Oh, yeah, didn'tcha know? She proclaimed her union with Satan immediately after consummating it with him! It happened right after the New Year!
> Anyway, I sent those guys a good old fashioned tongue-lashing. Hopefully > they send me a water soluble "666" tattoo or something.
Not that I think it would have any effect whatsoever on him/them, but I sent my comments along as well. They weren't any kind of tongue lashing, but rather a "Why do you think that people don't have free will? I mean, even according to YOU, it's a God-given ability" kind of thing. Maybe they'll "see the light..."

OK, so Kim and I will be in LA for NAMM and want to go to one of the DT shows there (Saturday one, probably). Anyone know when/where you can get tickets? I checked out the "oh so helpful" ticketmaster site, and of course there was no information on it. Anyone know anything about the location of the LA show, like is it a nice place (with seats hopefully), and is there anywhere to park your car?
Oh, and for SF people, I noticed on the Ticketweb site that the opening act for the SF DT show is listed as The Star People. As someone who sat through them awaiting Ozric Tentacles last year, I can only say this: arriving late is no big deal.

Therion's new album is called 'Deggial' It's basically similar to songs like 'Crowning Of Atlantis', 'Mark Of Cain' and 'Seawinds from the last album. It has 11 songs, most are full of choirs, orchestra's, great arrangements and fantastic songwriting. One song features the vocals of Hansi Kurusch from Blind Guardian. The album is pretty damned good and fans of 'Theli' and 'Vovin', 'Deggial' sits somewhere in between those. I believe that it's out on Nuclear Blast later this month.

Surprises? Marilyn Manson getting 2 votes. Goes to show that not everyone on this list is respectable. Neal Morse only getting 2 votes. 2nd only to SFAM on my top 10 of 99. Megadeth's Risk and Q2K getting 2 votes after hearing so many people say they hated them. Counting Crows new album getting no votes. I would've given it a vote, but I got it after Dec. 31. Seeing about 5 or more albums that were released before 99 on the best of 99 list.

Oh God, if only that were true - I can't believe that I only discovered this kind of music a couple of years ago. I'm so glad that I might have, and I still find it hard to believe that people can be so closed-minded when it comes to things like this. I mean, it's like they're the Fundamentalists of music. :)
