saw you post and you want a new stereo. Well, I work at Circuit City and my
experience is that Sanyo is a good product that holds up over the years.
I've had this one stereo for ten years and I've never cleaned it once.
Also, look into Harmon Kardon stereos those are really good too.

Perhaps if you paid attention to the conversation instead of taking one line

disagreed, since Marty LIKES pop (e.g. Madonna). I personally don't care for

oh come on. even with gas prices as high as they are now, a 12 hour car trip
would cost you about $150, $200 at the most. i know because i just made one.
the question was not "is it convenient to drive there?" it was "CAN YOU
drive there?" i.e. is it physically possible. theres about 900 miles of
water separating us from any land mass DT might be playing at. don't whine.

Agreed. Megadeth is 100% Mustaine's baby. And after that Youthanasia album,
he even said they were intentionally trying to write radio songs. ON Cryptic
Writings, I thought they had a nice mixture of RIP and Youthanasia and it
worked well IMO. Risk isn't a bad album either IMO, but they tried to play
the field too much with stuff like "Crush Em" which is just a crap song IMO
and "Breadline" which is ok but perhaps a little too melodic. I'm looking
forward to hearing their new stuff but I just hope it isn't a blatant retread
of the older RIP type stuff.

Mauricio,
you have to understand one major thing: it's not the band themselves that
make up the tour itenerary. If it was, I can guaratee you that they would
play all over the world. Look for example that they haven't (and probably
won't) play Canada on this tour - James' home! Think he would like to play
in his home town, or at least his country? Of course he would! But, as
explained on MP.com, it's a matter of the band being paid enough so that
they can cover their expenses and make some money as well (remember, they
*are* doing it for the money, it's not just to keep us fans happy). The
promoters in some areas, such as Canada (and I would guess Monterrey also)
are not willing to cough up the dough required for the band to go to that
location.
So if you wanna piss and moan, fine. But do it at your local promoters -
they're the ones you can thank for DT not playing close to you.

You've never heard anyone try to sound like Pitrelli, or you've never heard
anyone succeed? Maybe no one imitates Al Pitrelli because they CAN'T. They
hear his brilliance and shrink back like dogs from a bonfire. (okay, maybe
that's just a "remotely possible" explanation. a better example of having no
imitators due to outrageous difficulty would be Ron Thal.)
With the exception of Ani DiFranco, I've never heard any acoustic guitarists
play like Michael Hedges. Since Hedges was a damn good
player/strummer/thwacker, there must be legions of musicians lining up to
imitate him, because of his uniqueness, right? Just like Marty Friedman. I
don't believe unique styles are automatic rookie-magnets. I think people
still decide what they like and what they don't.
There are lots of people who decided to pick up a guitar in the first place
because of Mr. Eddie Van Halen, not because they had been passively into
guitar-playing for ten years and suddenly recognized Eddie's "uniqueness,"
but because they heard him play and went "man, that's cool, I want to learn
how to play guitar!" Yngwie Malmsteen hasn't changed in decades, yet he's the
musical equivalent of Bill Gates simply because the continent of Asia still
likes him - why? He's not exactly Marty Friedman. :)
Sometimes unique artists do things differently from everyone else, and people
are content to stare in wide-eyed wonder instead of imitating. Maybe
something about Friedman's playing is so juicy and cool that everyone wants
his sound, and they think they can grasp it, so they make the attempt. While
I *might* be able to transcribe Ron Thal solos, who would use them? Vai is
often imitated, but keep in mind he's also got a VERY recognizeable style.
Perhaps the problem here is that Al Pitrelli has a less-recognizeable style
than Marty Friedman. Paul Gilbert is one of my favorites, but his playing is
difficult to recognize because it's so mechanical - can you find specific
examples of "Gilbert clones?"
Do you measure uniqueness by how many people flock to become disciples? David
Koresh had lots of disciples, but I doubt he was as unique a philosopher as
Confucius. If memory serves, Koresh was a raving lunatic who would stick an
ice cream cone into his eye before admitting he was mortal. Pokemon is wildly
popular, almost as popular as Marty Friedman's guitar playing. Is that
comparison a compliment to Friedman, or an insult? Is popularity really the
yardstick by which to measure individuality?

My useless opinion on Marty Friedman:
I agree that he is a totally unique player (where did he get his weird picking technique/angle???), and a technichal beast. BUT I never felt he really added more than blazing solos to the songs. Megadeth doesn't seem to have the type of "meaningful" solos like the few solos that you could find in early Metallica (I think the comparison is appropriate).By meaningful I mean stuff like the middle of Orion, every solo from One, and many more. Or our buddy Petrucci also has quite a few solos that are really more than a blaze in the song. You know, stuff from ACoS, the LitS solo, to name but a few. Anyway, what I said is highly subjective, maybe someone feels Martys solo sections much better than me. As I said this HO is useless. Thanks for listening.

Damn Korg! I really need to read all the way to the end of your posts before I act upon them! So now my girlfriend Derek has a Tool disc stuck, and we can't get it out. Any suggestions? I tried a bent metal coathanger, and was able to hook the hole in the center of the disc, but the sharp point of the hanger is preventing removal. We may have to go to the hospital and just say that he "accidently" fell on the disc and coathanger...Help!

Hey, I don't wanna sound like an arrogant ass, but I agree with Ptacek. Aside from a few of the old solos, there's not a difficult Sava song out there. Most of their material was easy to pick up by ear, actually. Try that with the interlude to Metropolis :) Like he said, though, 'not complex' doesn't mean 'not good'.
