     The sad news from
    Holland is that Lemur Voice have decided to split. As
    I said, sad news, but there are still to two great albums "Insights" and
    "Divided" to remember them by,
    and if you haven't got them yet, now is the time!

    Well that sucks.
    Has anyone in the USA gotten Divided? For less than $22?
    I tried to order it from More Metal and they were out.
    Any suggestions where to get it? Marcel?

    The difference is that FII has many great songs which are easily
    recognizable as DT. LitS, NM, ToT. Even Hollow Years, which 1) is an
    absolutely anazing piece of work, and 2) isn't that far off from
    Another Day/Wait for Sleep anyway. The Black Album has Struggle
    Within and a bunch of horse shit.

    Oh, man, this blows hardcore. Any idea what the guys (other than solo guitarist/Internet whore Marcel) are doing now? (Just kidding, Marcel :) Seems like Stick-playing bands just can't get a break.

    Just to clarify: Joe's Garage does indeed feature Bozzio: Both Dale and Terry, but both are only on vocals. Vinnie Colaiuta plays the drums on this one.

    Joe's Garage has to be one of the greatest albums ever made. It's infinitely quotable and eternally hummable. Zappa was a genius, ahead of his time, and besides being a fiery guitarist (who I'd recommend to the Shredis among us), he was also a great storyteller.

    And he knew how to get people to pay attention. Some may call it an overuse of shock value, but those who know better know that he was merely forcing people to pay attention to things that are important but uncomfortable.

    Becker did release a compilation album called "The Strawberry Jams" which is a collection of old home recordings of himself and other players performing stuff which was never officially recording. As far as I know, he's still completely paralyzed, but can communicate and write on the computer and such through a system of eye blinking patterns (Yes, I'm serious.) Guitar World had a story on him a little while ago (Smashing Pumpkins cover), maybe it's on their website. The Strawberry Jams is available from CDNow.com.

    There are many things that will never be answered in this time:

    1) has metallcia sold out, or did evryone change and they stayed the same?

    2) What has Cahrlie Dominici doen with his life?

    3) Will I ever get my copy of the HOB show (3 months dude, come on)

    4)Will Motley's Crue's new CD New Tattoo do well (go it in the mail, kicks ass)

    To the guy that wanted to know about Jericho and Stuck Mojo, they changed the name to something I can't remeber. They have signed a deal I think, to record real songs. B4 it was just an 80's metal cover band :)

    hey guys (and girls :-)!

    This was posted by Sean Malone on his official site (http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~spm29386/)

    June 22

    < insert here: some stuff not DT related >

    "I got an interesting email from Mike Portnoy a few days ago. This past weekend, I listened to the TransAtlantic CD for the first time and really liked it. His splaying seems really well-suited for this group and the it gives me the impression of being "something he always wanted to do". I emailed him just to tell him that I dig the CD, in fact I hadn't been in touch with him for a long time. In his response he mentioned that if Pete was unavailable that he was planning on asking me to do it. That's when you have one of those moments where you feel two seemingly opposite emotions at once - grateful to be considered for such a thing, and, something like "damn, why couldn't Pete have had the flu" or something. :) Ahhhh well, that's the breaks, maybe sometime in the future......"

    < the end >

    Wow! I wish Sean Malone and Mike would do a project together... that's something to hope for.

    I thought "The Perfect Storm" sucked bigtime. No character development (Mark Wahlberg's character is the only one that is developed for more than 20 seconds), bad acting (again, except for Mark Wahlberg), weird screenplay (excess focus on the side plots), and too much artistic license (this is a true story, but the side plots weren't even MENTIONED in the book upon which the movie was based, etc.). The special FX were great, but that doesn't make a movie (much like 260-bpm, 32nd-note guitar solos don't make a song - there's yer DT content).

    My 2 cents,

    Maybe the members of Marillion should join All-Advantage to raise money for their next CD instead of asking their fans to pre-order it. :)

    Take care, Adam Perkowsky (who has been an All-Advantage member for over a year, but would never spam the list by asking for referrals)

    In a message dated 00-07-10 18:11:08 EDT, you write:

    I wouldn't call either song "pop." Pop is Mariah Carey, Everclear, Brittney Spears. Ask a listener of a top 40 station to listen to "Wherever I May Roam" and they're not gonna be a hapy camper.

    Anything that sells 15 bazillion records like Black Album did is pop by definition. It broadens the definition of what can sonically be considered pop, but still falls within it just the same. And while I don't recall hearing "Wherever I May Roam" on Top 40 radio, I definitely recall seeing the video on MTV in near constant rotation, as was the case with Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, and Unforgiven. Unfortunately, MTV defines the culture of popular music (or at least it did at the time), so if they aired it (as often as they did), it is officially "pop." They same goes for Nirvana, Korn, Vanilla Ice, REM, etc.

    Richie

    P.S. Pop is not a dirty word. All it means that a lot of people bought your music.

    <<Here is a question. Who can name a band that has released three horrible albums and came back with a great one?

    AC/DC does it all the time. Most recent: Ballbreaker: Excellent AC/DC up there with the classic stuff. Then we get Stiff Upper Lip...what's that all about?

    <<Metallica>> Inside word is that Metallica's new album will be grittier and harder than most recent stuff(Load/ReLoad). They start recording in Jan. Although they won't be doing the speed metal thing, they will do grittier. Sounds fine to me. Any band that doesn't grow doesn't last, do you honestly think Metallica would still be around(doing speed metal) had the "Black" album never happened? Don't think so. They would be the opening act for 'Band of the Moment' groups like Korn. Personally I like the newer vocals, and some of the songs that aren't overplayed on the radio(House that Jack built, 2x4, Devil's Dance, Better than You, and Poor Twisted Me) I think the Black album is their best. EVERY song is excellent. The last four tracks are the best though.(more non-radio songs)

    Same goes for Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and STP...if they don't experiment from album to album they would go the way of hair metal. Just a memory and a special weekend on the radio stations dedicated to grunge/alternative.

    Folks, I need your help. I hope that some one of you knows more about this than I do.

    My band is called id (as in one of the three parts of the psyche, as per Freud, not as in identification). We're going into the studio in about three weeks to record three songs, as a precursor to a full-length album that we hope to have done by Christmas. Artwork is being designed, and many final decisions have to be made relatively soon.

    Here's the dilemma. My keyboardist has been surfing around trying to learn more about Mellotrons, hoping to buy one. In his travels, he noticed that a band called Id recorded one or two albums back in 1975 or 76. This is the first I've ever heard of another band with this name. We were handing out cards at NEARfest, where the fan base is probably even more diverse than here, and no one ever said, "Oh, there was that band in the 70s..."

    So, what do we do? Can we keep the name? Is there anything we need to do "through the system"? Does anyone have any idea what to do about all this? (Mr. Portnoy, perhaps you can share some of the details surrounding Majesty?)

    Thanks. -d NP: SportsCenter

    Zappa's playing next year's NEARfest!

    ..or the two issues are separate, unrelated, and I apologize for tricking anyone who forgot FZ was RIP...

    Best of the best in the Zappa realm (IMO of course). Has some of his catchiest songs, hilarious lyrics/talkey bits ("Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?", "Catholic Girls", et al), amazing instrumental work, ... I listened to that album practically non-stop for several weeks after buying it, something I rarely do with any CD. Anyone even remotely interested in trying out Zappa should purchase the album ASAP. (My only complaint with it is that disc 2 doesn't quite measure up to disc 1, but, all the same, it's a 5-star set.)

    The following was gleaned from the latest mass-mailing from Rob LaDuca, one of the guys who created NEARfest. Certainly Ytsejam-fodder, given the Transatlantic content...

They'll also have a TON of photos >from the event when their NEARfest 2000 page goes live. > >We're also beginning plans for a NEARfest 2000 2CD compilation release, >taken from 24 track recordings by Orion Studios...stay tuned on this front!

    Rock and roll.

    Finally, because I can't help myself...

    >Inside word is that Metallica's new album will be grittier and harder than >most recent stuff(Load/ReLoad).

    Isn't that what people were saying about "ReLoad" before it came out?

    The difference between the "rock" and "classical" versions of the Concerto Suite is not just the cover, but it also has to do with the way the album was mixed. The rock version was mixed from a multi track recording, so they could control the level of each instrument. The classical version was mixed from a stereo recording of the concert hall, which is the case in most classical concert recordings.

    Also, not to bring up a dead thread, but theres another genre that could be considered as "mislabeled" as progressive rock/metal: classical. Classical reffers to only one period of orchestral music, yet many of the most popular and well known "classical" peices are actually Baroque, Romantic, etc. Just thought I'd bring that up.

    -"Joe's Garage""is a concept album (With Warren Cucurullo and Bozzio)."

    Actually Bozzio sings on one song in the Third Act or scene as a guy in p= rison with Joe I think. Vinnuy Caleuta (SP?) it the drummer on the album. B= ut anyways, this is a classic "Concept album" if you must. It's one of thos= e albums that just gets you going.

    Joshua Rasiel enlightened us with the following :-

    >Three Kings and The Perfect Storm are the best movies i've > seen in a while. there's something about that clooney/marky mark team > that works. TK also happens to be really funny and cool. > > Hey folks, any thoughts on IM??? new album rocks, people! and you know > why? cuz it's 100% mmmmmmmmmmmmetal! > > josh >

    What's gonna be even more interesting is the collaboration between Clooney and Wahlberg in the upcoming "Metal God" movie. Loosely scripted around how Tom "The Ripper" Owens joined Judas Priest, this movie sounds bloody promising. Starring Wahlberg and produced by Clooney... Is there something going on between these two that none of us know about?? *LOL* Apparently Clooney has always been a closet metal head but it'll be interesting to see how Wahlberg handles the role of a lead singer in a metal band considering his "musical" background!

    BTW... Does anybody know the name of the B grade movie which starred a younger Clooney and Gene Simmons?? Circa 1992 I think....

    I do not post often, but when I do, it always lacks in content. Here we go...

    * From: Kurt M Hampton <kurt.hampton@juno.com>

    > how many of yall listen to the NEW ANthrax (Bush, Ian, Benante and Bello)

    Me me me! To me, Anthrax has been getting better and better, and it's only fair and well that they aren't getting the recognition they so much deserve. (See the rest of the post.) ;-)

    * From: Andrew Lawrence <mikel@alphalink.com.au>

    > Admittadly the solo from One is not the easiest thing to pull off, > and from what I've heard Kirk only did it in half an hour

    I believe the solo was assembled using the cut/paste method. Kirk was noodling aimlessly in the studio, it was recorded, then edited, the sequence of the licks was rearranged etc, etc. So, "written through trial and error by Hammett, produced by Hetfield and Ulrich".

    * From: "Paul Tadday" <PaulTad@bigpond.com>

    > KISS when they released Revenge, Iron Maiden with the release of Brave

    Slayer with the release of "Diabolus in Musica". :-)

    * From: Jen Grimes <saria2001@yahoo.com>

    > Newsted did not change Metallica...it's all Bob Rock.

    Bob Rock is also responsible (in that case) for making Mötley Crüe a lot heavier than the band used to be. ;-) The Crüe's album with Corabi was one of the three things that saved 1994 for me, the other two being "Awake" and "Promised Land".

    * From: Fett2002@aol.com

    > I wouldn't call either song "pop." Pop is Mariah Carey, Everclear, > Brittney Spears.

    It's only how you look at it. In my opinion, you can call pretty much everything pop that isn't classical or avantgarde. There, within those three broad genres, there are many sub-genres, and one of them is once again inaccurately and confusingly called pop. :-)

    * From: "Korg Ecksthrey" <korgx3@safelink.net>

    > The reason is that this question has never been truly answered: "Did > Metallica sell out?"

    In my mind's eye, I already see a new driving question for Zen Buddhists. "What is the sound of one hand... Nevermind. Did Metallica sell out?" Ponder.

    What would Brian Boitano do?

    Raivo, not from Sweden

    I had a friend of mine give me a revelation about Rush albums. They did 4 studio albums then a live album. After the live album, the style would change(2112,live album, hemispheres). It seems like they planned it from the early years. And for FII, I didn't like it as much as I&W or Awake, but it still has some good songs on it. I do wonder, however, what DT will do next to top M2.
