True Ricardo, that's why I never accepted that definition.
Because I believe it is a definitive genre.
Here's my take on the term "pop music".
The term "pop music" was first used in the late sixties
and was given to the music that was popular *in those days*
     at *that* moment. >>

If it's a definitive genre, how can be dependent upon the time period it was
released? I don't think pop is a genre of music at all. If someone asks you
what kind of music you play and you say "Pop," that's a pretty broad spectrum
you're including, everything from Backstreet Boys to Metallica (old or new)
to Jewel to No Doubt to Bon Jovi, which was my contention all along. So what
good is a genre name if it holds no meaning? You mention that you play jazz
and automatically people know what you're talking about (or at least they
    think they do).

Another Mullmuzzler is a definite; but MP has ruled out
any chance of another LTE. I think Jordan and John will
either do an acoustic lbum together, or a couple of solo
albums (long overdue in JP's case), JM will do something
other than Platypus, and MP will make another
    Transatlantic.

    Hey guys!

Alright, since Lemur Voice is no more, I really need some honest opinions about
Divided. I know that Marcel's on the list, but let's not be all polite for his
sake. Let's be HONEST! That way, we may end up with more people picking up
some Lemur Voice albums! I really need to know if Divided is an improvement
off of Insights. My biggest beef with Insights is that it starts out with two
songs which are JUST AMAZING!!! Then, it just turns to mush, with a blur of
Gregoor's somewhat incomprehensible vocals and, IMHO some rather uninteresting
music. I'm convinced, actually, that it's his voice that puts me to sleep
    after those initial kick-ass tracks.

What I'd like to know, though, is whether or not DIVIDED goes in the direction
of the FIRST half of Insights, or the SECOND half.

While I'm in a rather selfish and abrasive mood, let's hope that maybe it was
Gregoor who wanted Lemur Voice to go the "dreamy" route and much of the rest of
the band (including guitarist-extraordinaire, Marcel) wanted to do more
progressive elements. Maybe they could form a new band with a slightly less
weird name ;) and a more kick-ass sound?

Check out http://www.lemurvoice.com to hear the official statement of why they
    broke up.

Hey, Marcel, I really hope things go well for you and judging by your side
    projects I'm sure they will.

    Later!

P.S. EVERYONE: SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT METALLICA!!!!!

By the way, for those who may not know this: "Hoedown" is not an original
ELP composition. It's a "cover," if you will, of a composition by the
modern American composer Aaron Copeland. Here in the States, we usually
refer to this tune as the "Beef: It's What's for Dinner" song....at least my
wife does....every...single...time...I play the ELP tribute album! :)

Oh, and the first time I tried to send this reply, my computer gave me a

}was good, but anyone who has any experience playing
}keyboards knows that Jordan is GOD. Plain & Simple.

Not so plain and not so simple. Jordan is the god of technique, no
doubt about it. But there is much more to being a musician than just
technique; and in these other areas, certain other DT keyboardists
have Jordan not only beat, but completely whooped.

If memory serves me correctly, that song was actually written by Aaron Copland, and ELP arranged it for themselves.

    > I'll see to get this on CD. So if I like this one, would someone > recomend me an ELP album to start with?

All the recommendations I've seen so far are right on. Stick to the older stuff, and you won't be disappointed. (It sucks when you have to say that about a band, especially one as good as ELP, but them's the brakes.)

BTW, if you start getting into that stuff, keep in mind that Greg Lake played bass and sang on the first King Crimson album, "In The Court of the Crimson King".

Jack's one of the best. And he sang 90-something percent of Cream's stuff, too. Wow.

    Hello all,

As U could read on our homepage the band Lemur Voice decided to split up. Here is the official letter we wrote for the website to all our fans:

NEWS: LETTER FROM LEMUR VOICE TO THEIR FANS

    Hi there,

I guess we have the biggest Lemur Voice news for you since Aura was formed in 1993.

We have decided to end the Lemur Voice era and all go our own way. The last year we gradually realized that our musical differences have become to extensive to be combined in Lemur Voice. At this point in time, our cooperation in Lemur Voice would not result in music, of which we all would be proud to present to you, as we were presenting our albums Insights and Divided. We all feel that we are mutually obstructing our personal creative paths. Therefore, we have to separate in order to continue making the music we aspire; for you and for ourselves.

We need to stress the fact that our differences are purely musical and not in any way personal. The decision to split up was made in total harmony and in the best interest of our musical future, in which we will continue (although separately) to write and perform music for you.

Hereby, we would like to thank all of you who supported us throughout the last 7 years: our live crew (Alain Chernouh, Randy van Veen, John Cleutjens, Laurens van der Loo, Mario Vermulst, Ron Claassen), our record companies, our managers and booking agencies, our artwork team (Goswijn Simons, Lonneke Pennings, John Wouters and Pascal Weidner), our producers (Oscar Holleman and Ron Lieberton), our girlfriends and wives (Monique Faber, Lonneke Pennings, Miranda Snackers and Dorien Bots), Kees van de Wouw for the great rehearsal studio, Mike Ostrich, Isabelle Cardin, Theo Samson, Jos Boerenkamps and of course all of you, our fans who gave meaning to our existence.

    REMEMBER US AS WE WERE!!

    LEMUR VOICE

P.S: Keep on visiting our homepage (http://www.lemurvoice.com) for more information on new bands and projects featuring band-members of Lemur Voice!!

    Fellow Jammers!

I was poking around in the only store in "Sodertalje" that sells used records today, and to my big surprise I found a boot by the name of "The Spirit Really Carries On", from the Los Angeles show that got shut down by the fire marshall.

Obviously I skipped right to the last track, and there it was in all it's beauty; "The Spirit Carries On" starring Mike Portnoy on lyrics. When they finally cut the power, the crowd starts chanting "BULLSHIT", BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT" etc. Awesome stuff!!!

    Does anyone want an mp3?

I think they should show images of Laura Palmer on the video screens too, because she is a babe. In fact, I think DT should write a new concept album. "Twin Peaks part II: The FBI Agent and the Donut."

Don't forget the cherry pie Graham! Remember, the agent saying in the first episode "they have a cherry pie that will kill you..."

Man, I loved that show. They had a TP marathon a couple of months ago on A&E.

    Hey gals and guys,

I checked out the band Tunnelvision after reading the post by (written by: "Timo Virkkala" <wt@nic.fi> ) and I actually checked out the site for once. Three mp3's and pretty decent at that. kinda like a mix of 'good' old Queensryche and Dream Theater. Check it out if you've got the time.

    Hi jammers,

According to an update on the DTIFC web site (), Kirby got a huge box containing the infamous 1999 Christmas CD on 06.27.00. Some problems to be deal with the zip codes and it would go out in a week or so.

QUESTION: Does anyone got it in the last couple of weeks??

    Alex

Not too specific there. The interview basically only mentioned performers. Whether he has the SG crew involved with any songs is an unknown. I kind of doubt it, though, cuz I think those songs might have only been a by-product of him doing that little bit of work on Tyranny. I like Guillory's works on the album the best, anyway. ;) And even though I never was a Magellan fan, As a Man Thinks is a great song. -- KorgX3 thinks it's strange he could never get into Dali's, either.

I'm not going on the offensive here so please don't take it that way. Think sarcasm...

Ah-hem......I know we're all entitled to opinions but........Derek is history eh! His personality didn't mesh well with the other members of DT (as sited by Portnoy). He lost his chance baby. Strike three....NEXT! He's a talented musician but he almost sounded caged in when he was with DT (at least his ego was)-- Derek has more of a 'front man / lead guitarist' type mentality, who seemed to have problems with being an equal part of a DT. It was just a natural move for Jordan to take Derek's spot after the 2 LTE albums were such masterpieces. Now if Jordan could only write like Moore did....only the next album will tell...

Another Liquid Tension, another Platypus, some more stuff,=20 maybe some compilation junk, then get back together and put out a double=20 disc=20 CD. >>

No more LTE's man, Mike's said it like 250 times now, since 3/4 of LTE is no= w=20 3/5 of Dream Theater, it'd be pretty pointless. He said they are always up=20 for doing live shows, if time allows.

I'd definitely be out for another Mullmuzzler. Maybe a mini-tour, since=20 Mangini and Keneally are off the Vai tour now, the timing may be right. Brya= n=20 Beller is always along Keneally's side, so...

I just went and bought the new Black Label Society-Stronger Than Death cd=20 today. Man, Zakk Wylde is the ultimate bad-ass guitar player in my opinion.=20 He's got the look, and most importantly the playing/tone/style. The disc=20 reminds me a lot of Pantera at some points, a lot more double bass on this=20 one than the last. This record is not for the testically challenged, it's H=20= E=20 A V Y. You'd swear he did all the guitars with a 7-String sometimes. Great=20 songs collectively, sounds like a continuation of the first, only a little=20 more expanded. Mix Alice In Chains/Ozzy/Pantera together and this is what ya= =20 got man.=20

    I also picked up Dogman, from King's X for $5 in the Used CD's section, luck= y=20 me :-)

Anyone else going to the Halford/R=FFche/Maiden show here in Maine? (Aug 9th= ),=20 getting my tix next week.=20

By the way, I'm looking for any live LTE VHS tapes, please e-mail me...

    Warm Regards, Andy
