Tough question regarding 'Divided', because I think
'Insights' is pretty damn good front to back. Yeah, I
too find the singing to be pretty momotone, but others
don't, and to be honest, after a while I just hear it
    as another instrument.

Musically, 'Divided' is a no-brainer. As good as
'Insights' is, 'Divided' is better. Vocally, it's the
same, but again, I don't give a crap what the vocals
sound like when the music is this strong. Case in
point: the 'new' Ark album. At times, the singer is
a dead-ringer for Coverdale, who I've never liked.
But even when he sounds like Coverdale (and he REALLY
mixes it up, which is nice,) the music he's singing
over (man is Tore Otsby ex-of-Conception, wonderful or
what? and the drummer is insane in such a Bozzio way
it's scary) is sooooooo good, I don't care.

    Mike

Here's a link for those of you going to the Filderstadt concert on
October 7th -- http://www.f-com.de/filneu/karten.htm where you can apparently
order tickets by fax/email. Seems like a really nice venue BTW.
Does anyone know whether the small holes left (esp October 8,12) will be
filled? Or is this the completely final schedule? (Just wondering because
    of travel plans).

Oh good, they finally have a webpage. This band is actually quite talented and hilarious onstage. Played last year at Dragon*Con to near-universal acclaim. :)

If you like Star Wars, you will laugh your ass off when you see this band play. Just pick it up and keep on rocking. :)

I think that G.I. Joe/Action Force had the best action figures and best cartoons. =) I still have quite a lot of them and attend to keep them because they are so cool. G.I. Joe and Star Wars had the finest vehicles! I just finished my project to read all of the Action Force magazines that were published in Finland during years 1987-1994. I bought every magazine of Action Force and when Transformers were involved in Action Force magazines (in year 1994) I was pissed off and then also the illustrator of the magazine changed into very sucky one and that was enough to me and stopped buying Action Force. I quess I was also too old to read them anymore. =)

Yo Joe and irons up people! =)

I have to put my 2 cents in on subjects concerning ELP, they are my fav band of the 70's. Brain Salad Surgery is their best studio album IMHO. The live album (Welcome Back My Friends ........) features all of the songs from Surgery except one (Benny the Bouncer) which is hardly missed. The live one also opens with Hoedown going hyper speed! I would also recommend Works vol1, which has each member doing solo stuff and then 2 songs with them together. And rhino has released the european release of Pictures at an Exhibition which they perform live. Their arrangements of symphonic pieces are so excellent that at times you forget there are only 3 ppl performing them. Thanx for letting me ramble and I hope to have helped.

Regarding Mullmuzzler, James said to me (in as many words) that there would definitely be another Mullmuzzler album, and he would like to have the same performers on there. I didn't ask him about the writing, though.

In the "Theater of Dreams" spring edition there was an interview with Myung (There are 9 questions and his last 4 responses are; Yes, No, No, and No. Maybe we should add Dr. No to his list of nicknames [the Silent Man being my favorite]) in which he stated that there will be a third Platypus album and that since the four of them are pussies they will not tour for any Platypus music. :-) Ya know, I have the utmost respect for the four guys in platypus, and I can understand if they wanna take a break, but if Transatlantic and LTE can do it, you guys can certainly play a few dates as well.

Haven't heard Divided (Hope to pick it up in Holland when I visit the motherland two weeks from now), but I sincerely disagree with you on Insights... I love Intuition, but Akasha Chronicles seems a bit too random... I also dislike the way tracks 5 and 7 start off with riffs that sound a LOT like DT. I mean, after those initial riffs, they're cool songs, but seriously, that was a bit blatant.

Anywayz, how can you possibly ignore the brilliance of track 6, Alone? That has to be one of the coolest prog songs I've ever heard, not to mention one of the most varied! I will agree that Gregoor's voice is somewhat hard to understand (Recording snafu, methinks, although having a Dutch accent certainly doesn't help), but I like the key and style of singing a lot better than LaBrie's... Then again, I don't like having my eardrums shattered and stabbed by large barbarians, either. I have to say that JLB did pleasantly surprise me on the Met. 2000 tour, but I'm getting off-topic. Insights is an awesome album, the best tracks being 1, 3, 4, 6, and 8. Buy it, and ignore the idiots who dismiss it as a lifeless DT clone.

O.K. since lots of people want this, it'll be easier to upload it on my server space. I've left 30 seconds of the second to last track (One Last Time), and then the whole last track (TSCO) follows. Considering the purpose of the file I settled for 128 kbps to limit the size. I disagree with this. Again, see the above. Meanings of words tend to change over time and for most of the public the word "pop'" is indeed a genre. And it soes get hard to classify groups sometimes. some people might call Bon Jovi a rock band and others might call them a pop band. But with some artists like The Backstreet Boys, or Brittney Spears, the only word that could be used to classify them is pop. >So what good is a genre name if it holds no meaning? Well, we had a thread not long ago about this. And genre names can help seperate different acts for the purpose of categorizing them, but it certainly isn't perfect. -mike C.

Heh heh - if you think *that* was awesome, you should have been there! To hhear the audience sing the rest of the lyrics (when Mike forgot them) was absolutely spine-tingling.

And the remaining events confusing until it was all (kind of) explained later. What you don't hear was the crowd chanting other stuff (we won't go, etc.) but not as strong or long as the BS chant - and of course seeing the police (in riot gear) come in to move everyone out when everyone refused to leave. I'm not sure about the SG crew, but I do think James may write at one or two tunes with some of them. I know that Guillory is gonna be involved (writing and playing) as I had spoken to James at the 2/5/00 show - he in fact showed me a CDR (tho he didn't play it) of demos that Matt had sent him, to go over and starting writing lyrics for. I actually mentioned to him that I wasn't that fond of the Gardner songs (how's that for honesty?) but to my dismay he mentioned something about writing a couple tracks with him as well. Here's hoping at least this time Trent won't play on those songs (unlike last time) and will allow the real Mullmuzzler band to play on them (if for no other reason, so that they'll sond more like the rest of the album - unlike As a Man Thinks and especially Beelzebubba - YECH!)

    <Fellow Jammers!

I was poking around in the only store in "Sodertalje" that sells used records today, and to my big surprise I found a boot by the name of "The Spirit Really Carries On", from the Los Angeles show that got shut down by the fire marshall.

Obviously I skipped right to the last track, and there it was in all it's beauty; "The Spirit Carries On" starring Mike Portnoy on lyrics. When they finally cut the power, the crowd starts chanting "BULLSHIT", BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT" etc. Awesome stuff!!!

    Does anyone want an mp3?>

OR does anyone want to trade since Ive had this for like 2 months. :)

I just got a new burner too :)

Yeah! I does - I mean, I did - finally got it last Saturday, July 8th. I had just about given up hope . . .

    Hi,

Does anyone on this list live in Milano and know if I could still get tickets to this show (tomorrow - 15th July) and how I could do this. I am thinking of flying over from the UK as I've seen a very cheap flight offer, but I don't know if it's sold out.

If you can help, please email me at this address or at adrian@area54.co.uk

    Cheers,

    Adrian

One of the mp3's I made came out awful with repetitions etc. so I made another one. The problem is (as some of you may have heard) that I accidentally uploaded the wrong version. I apologize!

The correct file is located below:

PS. Sorry if I cut anyone off when deleting the old file :o)
