    Greetings JAMmers,
I haven't been keeping up with the JAM lately
(shame on me) so I am probably late in informing everyone here that the
SECRET of the universe is well kept for a reason.
Much like the reasoning behind Govt. cover-ups
the general public "can't handle the truth"
Even a trained mind has trouble understanding.
Considering Gurus, Philosophers, Sci-Fi Authors, and a handful of Poets
and Musicians, have been carefully lead to the answer through
open=minded debate, are usually recluses and hermits you can see the
danger. Now I am not saying all "enlightened ones" live in a hole on top
of the mountain. Those are the ones who couldn't quite get all of it.
Gene Roddenberry knew. Douglas Adams as well. Jim Morrison was told but
couldn't handle it,Sir David Gilmour knows and leaves little hints in
his playing and I know but haven't figured out How to express the
knowledge so that "everyone else" can understand.
Oh and for those who don't know, the Secret to the Universe and the
    Meaning of Life are 2 different things, but here are a couple of hints;
The Secret to the Universe--- 42 is indeed the answer but must be
reached through a mathematical equation of 6 x 9 and then compounding
Infinity by its square root and then taking half of that. Simple just
like the Pyramids of Egypt and South America.
The Meaning of Life--- This will sound generic but it is to ASK and
    then SEEK the meaning.
In other words spend a good amount of your time pondering the
imponderables of life, exercise your Brain.
Oh well enough "heavy thoughts" from me.
                                                    PEACE!!
                                                          Billy.

I guess this e mail sort of pertains solely to New England jammers and
    Kings-X loyal followers.. thanx.
    Hey all,
I was talking to a couple buddies of mine last night and I suddenly
remembered that I had seen a flyer advertising a Kings-X show in Salisbury MA
at the end of this month. The funny part is that I can't remember where I
saw the flyer or the name of the club (must have been drunk or something).
Does anyone know if I was dreaming this or what? I remember seeing that
Dokken was playing the same club a couple nights earlier. Can someone
clarify if they know? Thanks... Later, Jeremy Kube

It would be great because almost all of the stuff on the DT website is
wrong. Cripes. It would help if there were at least some separation
between verses and changes, but you I see this long string of

True, although a lot of Luis Bernardinelli's stuff is accurate enough that
    you can fill in the rest... Scarred, unfortunately, is not of those songs;
the intro part doesn't include the left hand tapping variation that JM does
towards the end f it (OK, not hard o figure out, but still), and the chorus
parts aren't right either. Met 1 tabs are pretty bad for the most parts, but
I've learned this one through just playing it (Except for the
ascending/descending runs in the insano instrumental part). Most of the notes
actually are right, but they aren't repeated enough times o the rhythm isn't
clear enough. Oh, and if ANYBODY has a remotely accurate Lines in the Sand
tab, I would give my eternal gratitude to them (Whatever that's worth) to
    have a copy of it....

This isn't good. I'm fighting to get my folks to let me take the car to
Philly (it's not looking good @ this point); if I did manage to fenagle
it away from them, I'd be damn pissed if I saw the same show again. Well,
maybe not damn pissed, perhaps more of a moderate disappointment. Maybe
they're just doing that particular set for the Roseland show so they can
tape it. Although, now that I know what it'll be, I'd like to see that
show, but it's during the week - and we all know how much work sucks.

Yo, I don't know if ranted this yet on the jam, I have to everyone else so here ya go:

My friends and I have been counting the days ontil the maximum rock show in new orleans on the 19th. 6 of us going. Anyway last thursday it was announced that the show is completely cancelled. We were like WTF? A few days later, an annoubcement on the crue's sit read. 7/19/00 cancelled for Crue's promotional scheduling on the Tonite show with Jay Leno. they will be performinh hell on high heels.

Grrr. Hell on high heels is a 3 and a half minute song. hundereds of people who WEREN't ging to this for motley crue (anthrax and megadeth) got fucked by this. Motley obviously cares more about $$$ then the tour which they supposedly are obligated to play on.

What gets me is they have the nerve saying Metallica doesn't care about the fans. Umm last time I checked, Metallica is going back to the cities that James missed because of his accident, and they are doing free shows there. those assholes! How dare they. Metalligreed indeed (insert sarcasm here)

Anyway Tuesday Im going to wherehouse music to trade in all my crue CD's, im that pissed at them. Ill probably get Vanden Plas or some prog stuff, who knows.

Just wanted to throw this out there, I sure wish i could have seen Al with Megadeth, adn ANthrax. I have been waiting 7 yeras to see the thrax, Ill wait some more.

Who on here doesn't know how to read a package? You can buy 74 min & 80 min. CDRs. And yes it holds 80 mins. I made one(Pearl Jam B-sides) for a total of 79:59, I could have put an extra 1 second pause between one song but...79:59 is good enough.

And Philips and Sony are both working on new drives that will be released in October that write dual layer CDs. Sorta like DVDs. These special CDs hold 1.3 Gigabytes of info.(This is what Sega uses for the Dreamcast)

    Hi, folks:

I've added a new page to The Artist Shop that some of you may find interesting. Basically I've set up an affiliation with a company called Sheet Music Plus. I have a page for them at <http://www.artist-shop.com/sheetmusicplus>.

I've always felt that progressive music fans were much more musically literate and had a higher percentage of actual musicians than the general music buying public at large. As such, I've always wanted to do something with sheet music and now I have. Although I should add the Sheet Music Plus also deals in books and music instructional videos, too.

On that page I've included a number of links to specific artists within the Sheet Music Plus catalog and among those you will find links to the following:

Beck, Jeff Belew, Adrian Bozzio, Terry Bruford, Bill Cream Dream Theater Emerson Lake and Palmer Emmett, Rik Fates Warning Hamm, Stuart Howe, Steve Jethro Tull Johnson, Eric Kansas King Crimson Lavitz, T. Malmsteen, Yngwie Morgenstein, Rod Morse, Steve Peart, Neil Petrucci, John Primus Rush Satriani, Joe Chris Squire Torn, David Vai, Steve Wooten, Victor Yes Zappa, Frank

Just a few of the many artists that might interest you ;-)

Also, not DT related, though, I've created a new section to The Artist Shop called Artist Shop Radio which you'll find at <http://www.artist-shop.com/radio>. It's unique among internet radio stations in that it's not any one person programming the playlist, but a cooperative effort of a number of musicians and independent labels. I'm very pleased with the results and I hope you'll check it out.

<< RECORDING QUESTION: Hello all. Quick question for the techies on here: I'm going to be buying a new computer (PC) soon that I want to use for recording music (in addition to other more mundane functions like the internet and word processing) for my band. I need something powerful enough to handle software in the vein of Cakewalk, Cubase, Cool Edit, etc. I just want to make good quality demos from it that I will be able to burn onto a CD-RW. My question then is exactly what kind of technical requirements do I need for something like this (in terms of processer speed/type, soundcard, RAM, CD-RW speed, etc). I have a great connection who can get me what I want for dirt cheap, but I need to know what I want first. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it if you could e-mail me privately. Thanks in advance. Richie >>

hey Richie. For all your Cubase, Samplitude, et. questions you will want to ask my guitar player. He is VERY well versed in this field. He recorded, mixed and mastered our new CD called "Chiaroscuro." if you would like to hear samples from this go to: www.mp3.com/CeaSerin for that sound we recorded using a Yamaha digital 8-track. we mixed down by using Samplitude and Sound Forge, and we mastered using Cubase. We now have an updated version of Cubase which is awesome. Ask him all your questions. His name is Keith Warman and you can reach him at: kwarman@home.com

i hope he can solve your questions

Processor: the fastest Athlon or PIII you can afford. the higher the clock speed, the more stuff like plug-in filters and real-time processing you can do. I personally prefer the Athlon in the PC world (although I'm a Mac user myself) Big L2 cache is pretty important, too. 512k minimum, 1MB if you can swing it.

RAM: 128MB MINIMUM. 256MB to give you plenty of room to breathe. 512MB or 1GB if you want to brag and prove that your balls are bigger than everyone else's. I think PC133 RAM is available, but at least try to get PC100.

Hard Disk: I would recommend two drives: one for program storage and one for sound file storage. At least DMA66, if not SCSI2 or faster. for the Audio drive, get as big a drive as you can afford; at least 15 gigs; this lets you keep the sound files uncompressed.

BACKUP IS A MUST. get a tape drive if you can; 20 gig tapes are like 40 bucks or so (much less expensive than Jaz and other magnetic media, although it isn't as versatile)

I would also highly recommend a 19 or 21 inch monitor. with audio programs, you have a lot of stuff going on all over the screen, and you run out of space fast.

For Audio I/O, I like mark of the unicorn (www.motu.com). I just picked up their 2408 for $300 (used). I've also seen a unit that fits in one of the front drive bays (like where a CD-ROM would go). I think it's made by yamaha. I don't know about the quality of that piece, but fitting in the front of the box is a really cool design. I would recommend going to your local (non-chain) music store and talk to the pro audio guys about I/O gear.

One more thing: pay attention to the specs on the motherboard. You don't want a blazing processor with tons of RAM, only to have the data bottleneck getting between the two. Look for the system bus speed: the faster the better (Like always :)

I hope I've been of some help.

What, and JP doesn't have this problem? This is a guy who may claim to be primarily interested in the "song", but is rarely happy to do anything that won't nab at least a little spotlight. Still, could be worse. Could be Vai.

    >such masterpieces. Now if Jordan could only write like >Moore did....only the next album will tell...

I read an interview with MP, in which he said that Jordan had been carefull not to mess with the DT blueprint in his contributions. That irritated me lots - firstly, I don't think that there's room for a progressive band to HAVE a blueprint. Secondly, I'd love to see DT go back to the days when the keys competed more-or-less evenly with the guitars. SFaM's more a throwback to Awake than it was to I&W.

I'm kicking around the idea of making the roadie to see DT in Worcester on September 2 at the Palladium. I've never been to the place before. Can anyone who's familiar with the venue drop me a line? I *think* I have directions from MapBlast, but I'm wondering about parking, what part of town it's in, are they 1-way streets there, and I'm wondering what the venue itself is like. The only kind of website I can find for this joint so far is www.worcesterpalladium.com, but it doesn't look like it's up and running yet. Private e-mail please, or public if you think it's worthwhile to everyone else.

    Many thanks... Matt T.

PS: Sorry if my previous Live CD/Video/DVD post got double-posted. MY AO-Hell was doing some funky stuff at the time. Laterz...
