What's wrong with Jeff Beck? OK, he's a bit grouchy, but he's still an
    awesome guitarist.

This is because Nicko's smart, and spells it the 'correct way.'

It's #25, I believe, on the Pokemon list of Pokemons. It's a mouse,
technically, with a serious case of steroid abuse (in other words, it's a
mouse the size of a bulldog). Has an electrical attack that makes it one of
the most powerful Pokemon out there.

And before any of you ask, yes, I saw the movie, and yes, I actually enjoyed
    it.

If I spend $100 or whatever on an operating system, I don't deserve
trouble. If I don't get to see the source for the OS, I deserve a
damned solid product, because I can't fix it.

Of course, if I actually spend money on an "operating system" designed
around the concept of a registry, I deserve uninstall problems.
That's the punishment for being a sheep.

Say it with me, big Al. Most people's problems can be blamed on the
fact that Microsoft doesn't give a shit about you once the check
clears. That, and the fact that nervous technology managers, who
don't know the first god-damned thing about technology, buy up
Microsoft shit because they can buy a highway-robbery service contract
with it, thereby removing their own heads from the chopping block, and
    inflating MS's market share figures.

Argh. Now I'm all agitated. I need to go to Al's house and listen to
WDADU on his stereo. Where do you live, Al?

I love Queensryche, and respect them for coming out with "Thinking Man's Metal", as you so eloquently called it. But (and maybe you'll call me a purist here) I always think of the progressive rock as featuring more long songs and time changes, per some measurement, than other forms of popular (meaning, not classical or jazz) music.

I would sooner include bands such as Soundgarden and Tool in the prog camp than Queensryche. (And I'm hesitant to call those two "prog" either.)

    > << I respectfully submit that Metallica's "...And Justice For All", > released in 1988, was prog metal. Though Metallica and the prog genre may not exactly be > "night and day," i believe that that album falls more into the catagory of > thrash/speed metal.

Well, this is the first response I've seen to my "...AJFA" comment, which surprises me. CeaSerin, I really have trouble with considering *anything* Queensryche has done more deserving of the prog classification than "...AJFA". Tight riffs, 40 some-odd time changes in some of those songs, thoughtful lyrics (cliche maybe, but towards the top of the metal scene then), 8 and 9 and 10 minute songs... what am I missing? OK, no Bruford. But that's about it.

Yeah, now I'm confused. dt.net says no, tm.com says yes. If it gets cancelled, I'll be pissed, because I missed the CPI show in '95. If it goes on and gets sold out, I'll be pissed that I missed the chance again due to misinformation. Does anyone know anything official?

It's not like you're paying them and they don't send the stuff. The fact of the matter is that CDNow does what EVERY mail-order company does: they take your order and charge you WHEN THEY'VE SHIPPED THAT ORDER. That way they can be sure that they're getting your money and you can be sure that they're not ripping you off.

    Hello jammers,

I thaught I would give you a brief summary yesterdays Budapest show.

So, once again, if you are gonna see a show soon, this might be a: *******************SPOILER******************** The setlist: SFaM with a JP solo before THE and a JR solo in TDoE. After that they played the whole Mirror, JLMB till after the instrumental cool section, a bit of Acid Rain, and then the Caught in Alice's 9 Inch Tool Garden thing, but with more parts added from New Millenium. Very cool. Afterwards they went off stage, and as an encore they did fuckin' PMU, and went into Metropolis part 1, from the instrumental section till the end. Some parts of SFaM very changed slightly (for the heavier), so that is something to look forward to on that possible live CD. The changes were very cool. (imagine Sepultura style tribal drums in the last "our deeds have traveled far" part.....)

Highlights: Twin Peaks intro, Strange Deja Vu, Home, TDoE, Finally Free ("feeling good on a friday afternoon...", and the drums at the end, and the whole song) , and most of the stuff after SFaM.

Lowlights: JP solo (shredfest instead of some musaak), PMU (just because I have heard it too many times).

Funny part: James came on stage late to sing One Last Time. So the crowd started singing it. After about 2 lines James came in and said "very nice" to the crowd, but he seemes a bit pissed, like "hey, don't go singin' my parts". So he started singing it from the beginning. hehe Stage setup: no TVs, otherwise as usual (3 mesa boogie stacks and such, 1 keyboard)

surprise: JM moved around a bit!! (in TDoE, and for the Met1 solo, he moved in the center of the stage)

    spit: MP spits miles away

    opening act: none! headlining show

groupies: we saw 2 groupies (?) coming out of the DT tour bus. 5 minutes after that we saw them in one of the trucks, letting the roadies play with them. Please note that I am not implying that DT did anything undecent with these girlies. However, it is possible that they did do a favor to the roadies in order to get backstage passes, so they could talk to the guys.

The guys instrument work was beyond words. MP seems to play with such ease! James sang very well, and really became a better frontman then on last tour. In terms of moves and voice as well. JP and JR came out to the bus afterwards (even after CyberDuke left). They were nice, but obviously exhausted!

Well anyway, I am a bit tired to write much more about this. You know, it is Dream Theater. What is understood need not be discussed. I wish I could see them 7 days in a row. Thats all folks!

i don't know which benefits i'm gonna take off this discussion about music styles.

I just like bands, i don't care which style they belong.

Why don't we just classify bands as GOOD or BAD.

    Like:

Dream Theater - good Oasis - bad

    And thus goes.

Yes disc 1 cranks me up....I hardly listen to disc 2..... and it's true...it's Zappa's catchiest album...that's for sure...

<< While I'm on the topics of computer recording and MS-bashing, why has no one recommended that Richie explore a Mac for the project? There's no imaginary line in the sand -- er, silicon -- at 640 kb, there's no "Gee, will this sound card and this software work with that plugin and that CD drive?" worries... I mean, Macs were designed for arts-and-crafts, weren't they? >>

A valid point. I know Macs are inherently more artistically inclined than PCs, but I've been a PC guy forever (except for an Apple IIe detour in the '80s) and once I find something I like, I tend to stick with it. I'm a stubborn SOB. But I guess that does bring up an interesting question as to whether or not there really is a noticable difference between the two in terms of ease, price, applications, etc.

Before I forget, I'd like publicly thank all those who have been helping me out (both on the jam and private e-mail) with my computer recording issues. When in doubt, go to the jam.

Mac users have better things to do than wasting their time playing stupid games ;-)

Like making the new cool TOD fanzine, mastering your latest Xmas CD, or creating some great new DT music (Hi Jordan).

I know there are Mac evangelists who are quite embarrassing, but believe me, I'm not. I know that PCs are usually a bit cheaper, so I tell everybody who's going to buy a new machine, "I have a Mac, I'm happy with it, but your mileage may vary. If you really think you can handle it and want the biggest numbers for your bucks, get a Windows box."

Usually people walk the low road and choose to save some bucks and pester me for the following days with all sort of stupid questions like "my ISDN card isn't working", "it worked, but now my scanner's dead", "I just clicked on YES and now it isn't booting anymore", or, my favorite, "you're telling me that the only way to make this work again is to reinstall Windows 98 and ALL my applications??"

And usually I tell them, "Well, remember what I said before? So leave me alone and ask Korg if you need help with your Windoze shit." And *that's* the moment where PC users get angry and call Mac users arrogant. ;-)))

Anyway, this really doesn't belong here. Couldn't resist anyway bwhahaha.....
