Okay, this is one of the funniest damn things I have ever seen on this list. I'm hoping that somebody out there takes this seriously and it turns into a huge flamewar...I fear, though, that more and more lately people are refusing all flame bait. Man, we're all way too jaundiced and lazy these days, there's not enough shouting and mayhem and FUCK YOU on this list anymore.

OK, here's what you need to know about Devin: Get his "Infinity" CD and the Ocean Machine - "Biomech" CD. Listen and be amazed at his talent. Some of the most original sounding music that I've heard in years.

Now, these discs can be sort of hard to get ahold of. You can order them from Devin, but I've heard this can take a long time. I ordered my copies from CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com) and had them two days later. I like quick service, so I recommend this place.

Anyone that has not checked out Devin should do so. Oh, and I believe he'w working on a new project now. Can't wait to hear it.

But Randy was my personal guitar god in high school. (Shows how old I am) I still remember complete disbelief when he died... Ya know, it still sucks!!! Especially when Randy was not a druggie at all. When musicians (or any one for that matter) die of drug overdoses, I just sort of shrug and think, "well, it's their own fault... You mess with that stuff, you accept the risks..." Hey wait a minute, I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off topic here. Back to your regularly scheduled jam...

Agreed! I was gonig to respond to the original message and suggest the same thing! "Kiss My Axe" is really nice "light jazz", it sounds like music you'd hear on the Weather Channel and makes for very relaxing driving. Another great album, "Friday Night In San Francisco" (or is that Saturday Night?) features Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, and Paco DeLucia on all acoustic guitars. No drums, no backup, just a flurry of jazz heavy in Spanish flavor.

John Scoffield is another bitchin' jazz guitarist I've run acrossed, but I haven't bought any of his albums yet. From what I've read in countless guitar magazines, Allan Holdsworth is worth a listen. Steve Vai referred to him as "the master of legato".

The reason why I think BSB are so famous and successful is b/c they appeal to the most basic desires in pre-teen girls. They sing about unconditional love. It's total bullshit, but they're too young to recognize that. All they know is that a good looking guy seems to be promising his heart to them. There's really nothing offensive there. Compare this to DT's "sex is death, death is sex" line and you can see a clear mark of delineation. I don't think it's a different in intelligence so much as it's a difference in maturity. People who like the type of music we do aren't smarter, just able to see bullshit for what it is when we see it. I guess a guitar solo that's longer than ten seconds offends some people...

ive been noticing quite a lot of people have expressed their dislike for watching the shows on the main floor...i saw the chicago show(or at least attempted to- it was nice to occasionally see the top of labries head) from the main floor and found that it was difficult to walk the next day(from standing up and being squashed), and that it took 5 showers to wash off the smell of the people that were around me...then i went to the detroit show, rushed to find the closest spot to the stage, then realized after getting burned by cigarettes and having beer dumped on me that i didnt want to do it again, so i chose to watch it from the balcony, where i could see everything(including jordans hands) from a reasonable distance and hear everything better too...i also noticed that the balcony wasnt even half full, but the floor was packed, so i guess the natural instinct is to go down front even though everyone knows its gonna be uncomfortable and impossible to see anything....

on a side note, last saturday i got up at 8 am and paid 40 bux for my britney spears ticket...i honestly cant see anything wrong with her or the backstreet boys and whoever else's music...the whole "i hate that type of music because its manufactured to the point where its not about the music anymore" cracks me up...if its about the music to you, then shouldnt you listen to the music before judging it because its being mass produced by the record company? the people that write those songs im sure know their shit, and because of it are capable of putting together songs that are damn catchy and just all around sound pleasant...but the way the music sounds isnt important, its about how how it was put together, right?

I know there are a few Rollins fans on this list, so I wanted to remind you guys that the new Rollins Band (with new lineup) album, 'Get Some Go Again' is out on shelves. This album is a very hard hitting, straight ahead rock effort. It's one hell of a kick in the ass, and there is also a Thin Lizzy cover on there (featuring Scott Gorham on guitar!), as well as a big jam by the band/rant by Rollins on the music industry and what's out there on the radio today. While it is true that women don't really have a falsetto, men's head voice and falsetto are separate. According to my voice teacher the difference betweent the two is while using falsetto, the entire vocal chord isn't used. I don't know how this works, other than I can sing falsetto, and sound really really fruity when I do. Chest voice resonates in you chest, head voice in your head (forehead or nose) and falsetto seems to resonate in my ears. You have forced my to whip out my trusty keyboard and sing to find my actual passaggio, which happens to be between G and A below middle C. I can sing from A to D above middle C in my head voice before I hit my falsetto register. In falsetto, I can sing to an E above that. I would say that James sings with his head voice most of the time, and dips to chest voice for lower parts in SFAM. I might be thinking this because I can't sing along without using my head voice most of the time. I am wishing that I had asked him at the signing in boston on sunday. I think we need to talk more about singers, they are easily the most recognizable aspect of a band. Sorry about the personal details If there is anybody that really doesn't think it belongs, I was just trying to prove a point.

I have agree with Jenn. When people cut in line, or have their friends save them spots with coats, it's almost as if they are saying "My time is too valuable to waste standing in line, but yours isn't". If you want to get in early or get good seats, show up early. That's the whole reason people stand in line. If people didn't inherently think that was the way it should be, they wouldn't stand in lines at all, anywhere. They would all crowd around the door until it was opened and then just rush in.

When there's a lane closed up ahead in the road are you one of those guys that flies up the closed lane to the end and then tries to merge in with all the people that have already gotten into one lane? I hate that too.

So it's not okay to meet up with friends? I think that's a little rash. I personally don't see anything wrong with someone holding your place in line for you - it's no worse than draping your coat over seats at an event and saying "These seats are taken" when somebody tries to take them. I don't have a problem with that and I don't have a problem with having somebody go ahead of you and get a spot in line, either. It's not like I'm being hypocritical or anything - if you did the same thing, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I didn't hear anybody complaining when we got there, either - and if they did have a serious problem, I might have considered going to the back of the line.

I just wanted to point out that you've been using the same 'biweekly music quote' for the better part of a month. Is it some kind of joke (if it is, I guess I just fell for it).

    Paul's biweekly musical quote:

    Neil Gallop earlier prophesied:

<< here we go again, one of my favourite themes. How many people out there eat franchised hamburgers and pizzas? And how many people out there realize that this stuff is shit? OK. And how many of these people consume this stuff because it's convienient, readily available, they've been raised on it by the industry since kids, and because they can't be bothered to shift their butts into the kitchen and make something much better themselves? My case rests, your Honour. To put it in an oversimplified form: Brittany Spears = McDonald's = industry = big profit Good art = good food = handmade = low profit Well, at least that's how I see it. >>

AMEN!!!!! I agreed with this so much I thought I'd copy it and repost so that those of you who skimmed over it might catch it this time. I don't think it could be better stated. -Sarah

Yeah...I've really enjoyed the singing-related threads of late actually. There isn't one person on here who shouldn't be paying attention with some interest. Even if all the singing you're doing is in the shower, it's all good advice. :)

Hi all - sorry to clutter the jam with this but it's totally necessary IMO Tim stated: << so what you are saying is that everytime somebody mentions world war 2, the relations between the u.s. germany get worse?! he was just using the ww2 reference as a metaphore. he didn't say that it was a good thing. he didn't say he loves the bombing of germany. he said nazi germany. that is what the allies were fighting against in world war 2. Come on people - this is supposed to be a music discussion group - no need to bring in subjects like ww2 into the discussion. I'm an international politics major and I think that you're as unqualified as anyone to start making assumptions about how Germany feels about ww2. >>maybe you are a nazi and got offended, i don't know. >> What the heck are you talking about?!?!?!?!? Was that supposed to be a joke?!?! I'm not sure where you're from but that was WAY out of line. Talk about living in the past. Excuse me if I missed something, but since when do people today refer to Germans as "Nazis." Think next time before you go around making generalizations about people. Sarah
