Really? Well, shit, and here I thought it was an actual original thought.
Only reason I told Lisa that she should've given credit was because it was
a DIRECT quote :)

Ahem. That should be "THIS, ladies and germs, is E-mail entertainment at
ITS best," not it's. And it's "goofy," not "goffy."
Oh yeah, and that first sentence is a run-on. Americans should also be
capitalized.

Untrue, Ibanez has always been inferior, it's like saying Windows is good.

Well, it's definitely more interesting now, because before the album came out, and before the tour, the list was getting pretty damn droll and becoming like any other list... but this whole gun issue has been blown outta proportion... I mean, the pussy europeans are blaming us for allowing guns while people in the middle east are blowing up their neighbors with grenades and kids are shooting assault rifles on a regular basis. But, I can understand, the Europeans don't need guns because they have POWER METAL and SPEED METAL... VIVA LA FRANCE!! ROCKNROLL!!!!!!! It's done enough damage to their collective brains :)
LONG LIVE POWER METAL! ;)

BWAAHAHAHAHHHAHHAHAHAHAHHA *cough cough* Umm, in case you've forgotten, Dirty Harry, nobody will help you *anyway*, whether they have a gun or not. Just think about your standard bystander fare when they witness this sort of thing:
Woman is gang-raped in Bdford Mass., while many tens of people *cheer them on*. Why? Because they didn't think they could help the woman.
Woman is stabbed and killed over a 35 minute stretch of time as people in the neighboring apt. complex watch through the windows, *not one* dialing 911.
A good many crimes witnessed aren't interrupted. If you think I'm going to expect anybody save me when the wesside gang comes to kick my sorry white ass, you're wrong. Get over it. No big badass with a gun will save you. He'd probably shoot you to keep from getting shot himself.

on 3/2/00 4:14 PM, Caprichan@aol.com had a vision inspiring his fingers to ramble out the following:
> The shootings at Columbine...the two kids killed themselves. How cowardly > is that? They obviously knew what was coming to them, and they couldn't deal > with it. They couldn't take the punishment in this life that they truly > deserved. They killed just to kill, in my opinion, and if you didn't like > what they liked when they asked you, well too bad cuz you're dead. They asked > a girl (as I would assume you all know) if she believed in God. She answered > yes. Boom. Dead.
Every time I read this, it makes me puke. Fact: the media made this up, one of the many things they blatantly lied about in the midst of that tragedy just to bump up ratings. Fact: the girl who was asked this question is still alive and her statement to that effect, as well as similar statements from other witnesses, are part of the public record.
As far as Columbine goes, gun control wouldn't have done jack shit, even if it had kept the guns out of their hands, because they also had lots of explosives. Luckily, most of them didn't go off, or else hundreds of people would have died, but if they didn't have those guns they probably woulda spent more time making sure the bombs were working. :P
This leads to the next question...where do you stop? After you outlaw guns, do you outlaw pipes, lysol, and tinfoil? Do you outlaw portable propane tanks? Fertilizer? Deisel fuel? All the common drug store ingredients that people use to make homemade nitro and TNT? Where does it end? Because, if you have someone who wants to go kill someone, like a digruntled ex-employee or a nutjob teenager, they're gonna find a way to do it that's just as easy as a firearm. I couldn't believe someone said something to the effect that if people didn't have access to guns, there'd be less murder because it's tougher to kill someone with a knife. First of all, no it's not, other than you need to be closer, and second, you think guns and knives are the only deadly weapons out there? Come on, think a little.

> On another related subject, this discussion also brought forth from my > mouth the comment that people should get a license or permit from the > government or the state that says that they are allowed to raise kids, > having met all the necessary requirements.
Yeah, in theory, that's wonderful. In practice, who gets to decide this? I sure as hell don't trust the government to decide this, look at how often they fuck everything else up. You want to see how good they are at deciding these kind of family issues, look no further than your local department of children's services. Those dumbasses have done way more harm than good over the years.
You pass a law like that, and you're just begging for trouble. Next thing you know, only friendly middle class and up white people get to have kids, because they're "obviously" the most "responsible" section of society. Funny how they're also usually the ones who end up being mass murderers. :P

I am off to Orlando in a few hours -- hope to see some of youse people there. I'll be wearing my (hastily-laundered) red Ytsejam shirt, etc. :)
I have to correct Phil's post about saying "fuck you" to the Tabernacle staff, regarding the fuckups. At least one of the problems we encountered, namely backstage, was the fault of Dream Theater's tour manager. I'll call him "Mr. Happy" because that was the nickname the Tabernacle staff came up with -- he made NO friends that night with his pissy attitude and indeed, the local production crew damn near left at 2am because they couldn't stand his attitude.
Anyway, it turns out that "Mr. Happy" forgot to tell the rest of the band where HE had told security to shunt us off to, after the show. We're still not sure how James managed to find us. If Tab security hadn't mentioned it, we'd have waited there for no-one.
Regarding the front-door problem, it HAD to be a too-early signal or a miscommunication. The tour manager or the production manager HAS to give the okay; the door security people have no authority to open the doors on their own, by checking a watch and saying "okay, this is what the paper said." Traditionally DT shows have often had late-opening doors because of soundchecking and other delays (who can forget the hour+ delays while waiting at the Malibu Club on LI, or the infamous Birch HELL show the next day?). It wouldn't have killed them to hold doors for another ten minutes; as it was, it was an embarassing and annoying fuckup. Luckily, even after getting to the venue early and being close to the front of the line, I was still able to get on the barricade (but to one side, damnit). Many others who had waited even longer weren't so lucky. :(

It's not anyone's fault but their own that they choose to live in (and be proud of!) a self-proclaimed slum-town where crime runs rampant. I've honestly started to feel alot less sorry for that little girl's family now that I've read they're getting Jack Kevorkian's lawyer to help them sue the school. Another sympathy lawsuit brought to you by the letter 'fucked.' If they get nothing else for their daughter's death, they'll probably be the richest people in 'Bartertown,' at least. *Those blues are gonna clear up! Put on an asshole face!*

I live about 40 minutes from Port Arthur, and work just around the block from Martin Bryant's house.... so I guess if anyone was going to do this in Australia I'd be in a position to see it, and I haven't.
Just NRA propaganda would be my bet... No doubt there ARE people here doing that, but they're VERY much in the minority I think.

> How about them Dream Theater people! Don't they rock?! :}
They sure do. Even, and I know this is another frequent futile Jam topic, even if they don't come to Australia on tour :)

I think I just figured out why the Baltimore show was moved away from the Recher Theatre, and to the tiki-bar-under-a-tent known as Bohager's :) I'm on the mailing list for the regional band Laughing Colors, and just got this message:
"Make sure you show up early for LC's show @ The Recher Theatre on Mar 10th. The capacity for the club has been reduced temporarily. It's about half of what it used to be so don't take any chances ....show up early!!"
I'm guessing they're doing some renovations or something... you think that's why they moved the DT show?

I am so so so so so so excited. I found out today that I can go to the concert. My mom called up, sice I am 15, and asked if I could get into the club they are playing at and found out if me and my friends could get in if we were with her. They said sure, and she said if the people give you trouble, then ask for me, and I will let you in. That was really cool of this lady. I already got my tickets. I got them ten minutes after they went on sale, and I had ticket numbers 488-491. So that is cool, when the place only holds 1500. My friend has a minidisc recorder, and a few other recorders. I am going with him and another friend, we are all going to have a recorder, then he is going to mix them and get a good coyp of the show. If you want a copy of this in a couple of weeks, just let me know, and I might be able to make you a copy.

As a long-time NRA member, I find this gun discussion fascinating! But instead of bashing, I'll instead refer you to Patrick Henry's famous "give me liberty or give me death" speech. It may help to explain the American mindset towards guns and stuff.... http://libertyonline.hypermall.com/henry-liberty.html

Lets see if we can get a whole Ytsejam does not contain the words Dream Theater.

Hey, that was in Tasmania though... But seriously, that was like 3 years ago and happens once in a blue moon. Besides you could tell that Martin was just a product of American TV, as many people are down here.

Nah, I meant he PLAYED guitar. Its funny, I've seen (video) J.McLaughlin ask for the sound to be turned down as well.

I was browsing through the bootlegs in a local music store today, and I found a DT boot called "Instrumental Madness" for $20. Can anyone tell me if it's worth picking up? -Banjoman ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Found this note in my free issue of Brill's Content (March 2000 issue):
----
New Kids on the Tube
The next pop group to emerge from Louis J. Pearlman's hit factory--which has already blessed the world with the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync--is sure to be huge. As early as last November, the group had songs written for it, record companies interested in making deals, and a 13-episode television series chronicling the group's inevitable rise to fame, set to debut on ABC in March.
Only one thing was missing: the group itself.
"Everything is upside down," said C.B. Harding, the series's director, during the audition process last fall. "We have the material, the production, the publicity--but no band."
The band exists now, with its five members chosen and undoubtedly some pretty spiffy dance moves worked out. Pearlman hopes to once again achieve pop success (presumably without the legal actions his previous creations launched against him) by locating the right mix of young talent, matching them with producers and writers, and grooming them in his Orlando studio complex, O-Town...

Brill's, from what I can tell, doesn't put its "Notebook" section on its website, so to see the rest of this chilling column, I guess you'll have to get a hard copy. Transcribing is annoying.
