    >I take great offence at this. I am a National Socialist, which is much akin
to being Wiccan: people immediately jump to trite conclusions based on
misinformation. For the record, Wiccans are not Pagans, and National
Socialism is very different to Nazism. You may think that I'm being harsh,
but tough - that's the way the world is. We dopn't need people wittering
about what MIGHT be NICE, we need someone to tell us THIS IS HOW TO GET OUT
    OF THIS MESS.
    >

I wasn't really making any reference about your being a National Socialist
(which may have evolved from what they were in the 1940's, I had no idea
that they were still in existence and apparently seperated from the Neo-Nazi
movement) as I had no idea that you were one. I was simply stating that many
of your comments very closely resembled those, in mindset, of the Nazis. My
comment was MEANT to offend, and hopefully get you to think a little about
what you were saying, as I was hoping that you were not a Nazi, and maybe
would be a bit frightened that someone would think you sounded like one
    (which you do).

If you are a National Socialist in the true sense of the word (ie a far
right socialist, rather than a far left socialist) than it seems my remarks
hit truer to the mark then I had previously thought. HOwever, my
implications came from your comments, and not your party affiliations.

Geezus, I feel like a political candidate, but I want to set the record
straight in the same straight tone in which your reply came.

FWIW, in an interview with JP in the latest Theater of Dreams (yea, another one
arrived in the Bahstun area! figured i kill two birds with one gun^H^H^Hstone)
and JP's exclusion of anything prior to Awake would seem to back that up:

MH: During the show yesterday (I was at the DT show in Zwolle, Netherlands on
November 11th, MH) you only played "Just Let Me Breathe" on your 7-string?

JP: Well, I don't use it that much. On "Awake" it was on The Mirror, Lie and
Caught In A Web. On "A Change Of Seasons" I used it on the whole thing. On
"Falling Into Infinity it was only on "Just Let Me Breathe," and on the new
album I only use it for The Dance Of Eternity.

Subject: Orlando show thoughts and news
    Message-ID: <200003042335.AA28312@crl.crl.com>

Hi, just a few quick words about the Orlando show..... :)

-- great to see several Jammers there (Scott/PunkAss, Parallels,
Ryan "Caught In a" Webb, Mark "BigSwifty" Peters, and -- wow! -- Trey
Allen, who planned YtseCon II about three decades ago. :) Hope I
didn't forget anyone, I've had about 5 hours of sleep since returning,
    gotta looove weather flight delays......

-- The "train wreck" version of PMU st the Atlanta show was NOT
planned, but they'll probably be messing around with it some at
shows.... They kinda screwed with it in a similar way at Orlando. As
Mike (or maybe it was James) put it, "we've been playing the damn
thing for so many years, we gotta do -something-...." heh)

-- So much for having a "casual" show (hang out in back, buy
merchandise THIS time, etc.) after being in the front in Atlanta....
Me and "Dr." Dave Leon got there at about 3pm and there wasn't a soul
in line; even after we went to the Virgin Megastore across the street
and came back with freshly-bought Dregs CDs, there were only about ten
people in front of us.....so I ended up front again, this time
    dead-center.

-- ....which was especially cool since the show was videotaped?
Broadcast live over the Net? Still not sure what, but there were
video cameras all over and there were a few times, especially during
our "we're not worthy!" bowing after Jordan's solo, where we were
on-camera and the light was on. Pity I looked like shit warmed-over
after flying in, lack of sleep, etc. hehe

-- The Atlanta show was a bit more unique (Melody Portnoy on drums,
bonus violinist for the Dregs' set, the first appearance of the "train
wreck" PMU, etc.), but this show may have been a bit more energetic
crowd-wise. Both shows had about an equal number of tickets sold, and
neither show was brutally crowded, although the Orlando show was a
walk-up sellout (2200) acording to one person from the venue.

-- Mike, as always, you da man!

-- Weather-related flight delays suck....this is why I'm at home
instead of at work right now, as originally planned. :(

    Slowly recovering,
    --Paul

This is one thing that has been bugging me for a while now. With such a large repitiore to choose from why don't the band change the set around ? Surely DT can have some alternate songs in the can to change the set list around ? I am sure DT are sick of playing songs like PMU as much as the crowd would like to hear something different. Surely the band is getting bored shitless playing the same set night after night ? What logical reasoning can there be for this ?

Well, first of all, they're both excellent keyboard players, and they're both different players in their own right stylistically. IMHO, I prefer Jordan's style to that of Derek. I liked the LTE albums better than I liked FII or ACOS. But, opinions are like assholes, each of has one, and most stink.

After having seen these guys kick my ass all over the place at the Boston show, I decided to check out some of their music. People, I'm telling you: If you have not checked these guys out, DO IT. Even some of their hokier stuff (some of it just sounds a little odd, regardless of how I listen to it ;)) has awesome riffs and great rhythms, and the other stuff is just fuckin' incredible.

Oh, and I happened to see somebody behind me recording the show on a portable. I don't have much to offer in terms of compensation (I'd be willing to give a couple of blank CD-Rs, but I don't have anything besides that), but if anybody got a recording of that show, I would LOVE to get a copy of it.

Also, I know this is going back a while, but if anybody happens to have a recording of the MP/JP clinic in Manchester, NH last year (I believe it was on May 19th, same day as The Phantom Menace was released, heh), I would do just about anything to get a recording of that, since it was the FIRST time I was EVER exposed to DT-ness live. Private email please, if you can help me out. Thanks.

I got the photos from the Boston show back, but they're unfortunately not good at all. Next time I'm going to bring MY camera with some ultra-high speed film, so I can get GOOD photos. I've scanned in some of the negatives (the ones I could get to come out at all), and I'm going to try and fix them up a bit before I post the URL for the photos.

heading down, aside from soon-to-be-Dr. Dave Leon's kind offer of groundside support, was the fact that several Ytsejammers were going to be there who I hadn't seen in a while. (In the case of Trey "T-Stretch" Allen, FIVE years, and I didn't even know he was coming :))

Dave had to come up with an excuse for being late to his colloquium on show-day, and told them he had to pick up a family member at the airport. Well, he was partly right: in some ways, the Ytsejam is like a big, extended family, especially for those who hang out on IRC. We have our squabbles, our differences of opinion, our petty arguments (and, ahem, "debates" :)).....but in the end, to borrow a great heartfelt quote from Jason Newsted, "You CanNOT kill the family!" Seeing so many old friends (and some for the first time) from here and #ytsejam gave me that Warm, Fuzzy Feeling. Even aside from the show, this reallly made my journey complete. :)

[ Kurt wrote a neet review of his harrowing experience at the Atl. show ]

Kurt, whew. Glad you made it through okay -- and the Tale of the Drumstick was great! Drop me an email, dude. :)

Some DT news, as heard from the band in either city (apologies if this has already been posted):

    1. The rumoured summer tour with Yes is definitely -not- going to happen, although it was being discussed. DT are planning something pretty kewl over the summer, but James rightly didn't want to say anything more about it for fear of jinxing it. 2. Good news for lots of patient fans (way) down south. Dream Theater WILL tour South America later this year. This is the first time ever in S.A., no? (James told us this in Atl.) 3. The Incident of the Stolen Bus (in Cleveland) -did- involve their bus-driver. "Our EX-bus driver," James forcefully amended, after the Orlando show. (I'd been wondering about how a bus just walks off like that. :)) 4. The "train-wreck" version of "PMU" in Atlanta (where the guys got completely off timing and James gave up, picking back up on the chorus) -was- an accident, but they'll probably play around with it at shows, as they did in Orlando. "Heck," Mike said, "we've been playing that thing for seven years, it's time to mess with it!"

No, I'm not sure which countries in South America DT will be visiting, but I think James mentioned Brazil and Chile. (My roommate Tim was backstage at the same time, as was Phil, and either one of them might remember the details.)

I'm kinda curious -- will it be a Web broadcast or something? I heard "Pay-per-view" mentioned at the show..... To quote Pip, the Brit kid on South Park, "I'd pay $50 for one!" --Especially if it has good shots of me and Dave basically being weird.

Of course, if it's really embarassing I'd only pay $45. :)

Ironically I think the guy's camera was focused on me during one "singalong" part of "Peruvian Skies." I truly hope the audio wasn't focused on me as well; after singing along in Atlanta for damn near the whole show and then again in Orlando -- and nary a drop to drink during this abuse -- I couldn't have held a tune in a water-tower. :)

    Jammers,

I was just "surfing the web" and happened upon a website called Satan Stole My Teddybear. The site has tons of reviews and I checked out what was said about Dream Theater. The first review of Images and Words is pretty brutal. Thought everyone might get a kick out of it.

    Go to http://www.chedsey.com/list/dreamt.htm

    See ya, The KREWZMAN

Well, I visited a musicfair in town yesterday, and picked up several records. Some of these were:

Mahavishnu John McLaughlin - My Goals Beyond Jethro Tull - A Passion Play Genesis - "Live" (1973) Procol Harum - Shine On Brightly Fates Warning - Night On Br=F6cken Frank Zappa - Civilization Phaze III

Any comments of my purchases are welcome, i.e. are these considered as one of the bands better cds? Is the John McLaughlin cd representative for him?

    Thanks:)
