Got it on Saturday. One question: how do I play the video clip? I open the
contents of the CD in explorer and all it is is audio tracks, nothing else.

Anyway, another great CD. Glad to see Raise the Knife finally see the light
of day. Thanks, fan club guys, oh yeah and those people in the band.

Hey, just got back from seeing DT in Orlando and Pompano Beach. Both nights were incredible,
although I think they played a little better in Pompano ( despite some feedback type problems
at the beginning of Spirit Carries On). I was wondering if any jammers knew of any place to
get an MP3 of Laura Palmer's Theme, I liked it and would like to hear it again.

I was glad they played PMU, since I have never seen them live before.
Someone once asked Joe Dimaggio (famous baseball player) after he made a
diving catch during a blowout why he played so hard every single game,
including games where the Yankees were trouncing on the other team. He said
he assumes that everytime he plays a game, it's someone's first time
    watching him play.

My take was that Jordan was still getting used to the material... not
that he couldn't pick more stuff up, but get him into this bit of

    oh yeah, dream theater rules.

ps: while on the subject, wasnt kevin moore a christian? i remember seeing him with a crucifix around his neck (not that this indicates a belief in christ) and i thought most of his rather heady lyrics smacked of religious undertones. "surrounded" is a great example. i also felt some lyrics were anti-establishment (ie: the catholic church in this sense is an "establishment"). does anyone know anything about this? i once asked mike about it and he could only comment on his own lyrics, saying that his were *not* religiously oriented but couldnt say (out of respect for privacy i assume) for the rest of the band. thanks for reading. any comments on the subject would be appreciated. j

If James really said that, his memory must be REALLY fucked up... If they do come to Brazil later in the year, it'd be at least their third time here, if I'm not mistaken... Last time they played in our version of the "Monsters of Rock" festival, along Glenn Hughes, Slayer, Savatage, Saxon, Megadeth and some other bands which have escaped my mind... Hell, somebody even took pics of his ticket and they're posted in the band's website...

Isn't there a television program that broadcasts shows "live at the House of Blues" or something like that? Could it be possible that the DT show might be show there?

On another note, it's good to see that the feelings of nostalgia and brotherhood have disappeared so quickly on this list. Cyclical idiocy, I suppose.

When I was at the Chicago show one of the roadies recognized me from the Milwaukee shows and he came over to chat - he was actually Jordan and JM's tech. I asked him if the set was going to be exactly the same and he said it would. He then went on to say that the entire show is programmed into Jordan's keyboard in exact order so that by simply by touching a pedal he goes from sound to sound. He also commented on the fact that it doesn't take long for the band to brush up a song and play it - but it takes forever to program it all into Jordan's keyboard. I'm sure this isn't the only reason for similar set lists - but with a schedule like theirs I'm sure it makes changing things a little more complicated.

Ok, I don't want to be killed for asking this, but I've wanted to know for a lot of time, and now I'm asking:

Jordan Rudess was offered to be member of DT *AND* the Dixie Dregs at the same time, and chose the latter.

Some time later, he became available again, so DT kiekd off Derek Sherinian and brought Jordan in. We know all of this... now the terrible question: if Mr. Rudess is so great, *why* did he leave the Dixie Dregs? Was he kicked out? Did he leave? Was the membership a timed thing? Why?

BUT I do wish everybody would just get over the fact that DT is ALWAYS going to play PMU. I know alot of people are sick of hearing it, and Mike has even said that there is nothing more boring that playing it "for the 1,000th time", but let's face the facts: as far as alot of people are concerned, DT is in fact a one-hit band (I don't mean that in a negative way, I'm not calling them a "one-hit wonder" or anything), and of course they are going to play the only radio-hit they've ever had. It's just a given.

Anyway, the more I think about the more I realize HOW GOOD the whole trip thing really was. Everyone seems almost like family now, and thats something to take with me. Thanks everyone. Have the Japan tourdates been confirmed? Because the only chance DT will come here is if they can squeeze in a week or so around the Japan gigs...

It becomes a matter of what they have time to rehearse and relearn themselves, not to mention brainwash Jordan with old DT CDs to ingrain the keyboard parts, since Kevin's not around to give him a crash course as he did Derek. A few songs to switch in would probably be easily accomodated, but more might require more time than the band can afford right now.

I thought it was way cool seeing them in the Downtown Disney complex, I think it added some disney magic to the show. I'm sure they had their families with them, and probably spend the day seeing the sights. They seemed really on

The crowd was the best of the 4 shows I've seen. especially the (bounce thing) a good amount of people on the floor bouncing in unison, during the heavy part of Peruvian Skies !!

I just picked up Mulmuzzler, LTE v 1, and Platypus. Does anyone else feel that Mulmuzzler could have been a Great album with different drums? Don't get me wrong, I like the CD, but I just kept waiting for a killer drum fill or a hard hitting beat. Not that the drums are bad, it's just not Mike P (who is). Juat wanted to hear what you all thought.

Actually Dream Theater did play Baltimore on their Falling Into Infinity tour. They played at Daytona's nightclub which although technically it is in Pasadena, Maryland it is a suburb of Baltimore.

I know this show happened because it was my first DT show. But I can assure you I will NEVER miss them again whenever they hit this area. The Ho-baggers(Bohagers) show last week was even more incredible than the previous show.

I have become a DT disciple now, the world will never be the same.

    Our resident national socialist hurled:

    >I'm >unaware to have ever used MATHS (short for mathematics, >don't you know...Oh hang on, did you just get your grammar >WONG? How IRONIC!!!) in a post to the 'Jam.

Precisely. Had you used some MATH, you might have been able to calculate that 2000 (our current year) minus 1789 (the year the U.S. Constitution went into effect) leaves 211 (give or take a few months). You said:

    >For Christ's sake, you >brag about your constitution being 300 years old, but >don't you realise that I'm a fucking idiot?

As far as my MATH tells me 211 is not equal to 300... And yes, we do realize that you're a fucking idiot. Hey! Who snuck that in there? :-)

And yes, I just got my grammar, and stop calling me WONG...

    >You're welcome to try to locate any examples of me using >poor grammar unintentionally, but you won't find them.

Okay, grammar boy, here's a nifty example of both poor logic and grammar, that directly followed your poor MATH:

    >Your basic structure of law hasn't been >updated in that long, because selfish idiots like the NRA >think they have rights - well NEWSFLASH: not any more you >don't.

Logic problem - actually, the laws have not even been in existence for as long as you say ("300 years"). So therefore, they HAVE been updated within "that long"... Consider that the Bill of Rights came about directly after our Constitution, which we previously established as only being 211 years old... BTW, the specific law you are referring to came about because of a selfish English idiot taxing us... (Isn't that ironic?)

Logic problem - selfish idiots like the NRA actually do have rights, Simon...

Grammar problem - "Not any more you don't" what? Oh, maybe you mean the NRA doesn't have rights anymore.

Logic problem - where did the rights go? Did you just take them away?

Grammar problem - "they" (the NRA) suddenly becomes "you"... Now, I'm guessing you are directing your NEWSFLASH to the NRA, but jeez, this is just sucky grammar... :-)

    >And lastly, as >far as I'm concerned, my logic is perfectly sound.

Well, after your more recent revelations, I know it's useless to pursue any discussion of logic with you. However, as far as my seemingly cryptic reference to Buffy, I'll leave you with a clue, (quoted directly from you! How exciting!!!!):

    >Doc, every single other person on this mailing list >except you is capable of understanding sarcasm -

If you still don't understand, I'm afraid you never will. I imagine 80%+ of us Americans get it... Hey look, I copied some use of MATH from you!!! And you said you never used it...

I could keep going, but I'm bored with this now...

So Simon, continue to flame me if you must, but now that I understand your political orientation (and amusingly, respect your right to have that political orientation), I see that it's useless to continue this. We're never going to see eye to eye (Fates Warning plug). Plus, I'm afraid you may come and goosestep on my ass... Oh, wait a minute, you're not a nazi, you're a commie!!!

I apologize to the Jam for the length of this, but hopefully some of you enjoyed it... I'm done now...

    Paul

P.S. Hey! Has anybody heard of this band, Dream Theater? They ROCK!!! Except for certain sections that Simon would have you remove... :-)

    >Has anyone on the jam seen the Q2k tour yet? They are coming to Philly >soon and I am not sure if I am going to go or not especially with the >suckness of their last album. Hahahaha I said "suckness" Any way get >back to me if you have seen them. Thanks.

Well I had similar reservations, before I went to see them, here in London at the beginning of February. I'd heard good reports from the first (pre- Christmas) part of the tour in the US and what swayed it for me was hearing that they play a large proportion of O:M in the set ... and so it proved.

I've given Hear in the Now Frontier lots of chances, but it has never grabbed me and the couple of listens I gave Q2K told me that it wasn't going to grab me by the short and curlies either. Even live, this stuff sounds lifeless and the crowd reaction during the newer songs was a pale shadow of the shouting, screaming and jumping about when they played stuff from O:M and Empire. Basically 70% of the set is classic stuff and if you can live with Michael Wilton looking bored while playing the O:M solos for the millionth time and a few crap new songs (time to get a beer/take a leak) then I'd say go!!!!!

We had the pleasure of hearing the Tea Party as support, so I felt I got pretty good value for money from the gig. The quality of the old material and the stagecraft of the band is still worth playing to see.
