Paul Cashman may have already mentioned this somewhere on here, but they
video taped the entire concert at the HOB at Orlando. I was standing
right by the camera, and could also see the house monitors, and let me
    tell you...
This would be the ULTIMATE video of DT. From what I saw, it would
probably make the best live video DT ever made.

They are supposed to have a cybercast of the concert soon.

Does anyone know a way to videotape this off the computer? Anyone have
    any success with this?

Also, I had a chance to interview Jordan Rudess before the show. What an
awesome guy! Surely, the friendliest guy in the band now. I will be
making that interview available in about 1-2 weeks if anyone is
interested. I got a picture of his gear on stage, and asked him ranges
of questions from how DT writes songs to how he remembers his parts to
personal stuff ... it was a great 45 minute interview on the one member
of DT that few know about.

Are there any jammers on here who can help me interpret some Japanese or
Chinese? I think it is Japanese, but I'm not sure.

If so, I have some great surprises that will make a lot of you musicians
happy if I can get someone to help me!

More details later (provided I can have some interpretation help!),

The words "economical" and "truth" spring to mind here!
Those are the songs where he used the 7-stringer as the
MAIN guitar; there's a LOT of places where you can hear an
overdubbed 7-string on both Awake and FII. Even a couple of places on SFaM, to my ear. Sorry to be picky on detail!

It does seem strange how little he uses it, doesn't it? I
suppose now that it's become the sound of the moment, it's
not very progressive to just do the low-B riffage thing,
and JP's just trying to figure out what else to do with it!

Y'know, this makes me wonder too. I suppose that it's
kinda like a misplaced idea that people would get upset
if they didn't play their big radio hit (such as it was,
anyway) - but I mean c'mon, we're not talking about
Metallica not playing Sandman or SBT, I don't think it's
gonna' produce a riot if they don't play it. I wish they'd
stop, to be honest, I really don't like the live versions
    that I've heard.
And yeah, they must be bored as hell of it by now.

Well, I'm not an expert, but my friend Craig is; he's a
Wiccan, and takes great offence at being thought of as a
Pagan. Paganism is a polydeity system, as practised by the
Romans; while Wicca is a religion over 8000 years old and is nominally monodeitic. The term "pagan" has come to be
erroneously applied to any pre-Judaean religion. Apaprently.
We should probably leave it here, since it's completely
off topic (unless I've wandered on to the Black Sabbath
mailing list by accident!), and I don't know enough about
the topic to really argue. :)

    ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!
I particularly like this little gem:

"It is also the case with the technicality of the
guitarist and the keyboardist in Dream Theatre: play
as much as you want, but don't lose sight of the music.
John McLaughlin can use a million notes a second without
    sounding masturbatory, why can't Petrucci?"

And also the bit about anyone who can write something as
winsomely bad as AD should never be allowed to make music
again - now careful before you flame him on that one,
because I remember at least a couple of people on here
saying much the same things on AD!

We can only speculate as to what the hell "Rahul Joshi" would have made of SFam!!!!!

May I start by saying radio contests TOTALLY SUCK ASS!!!

To keep a long story short, my friend and I got screwed by KNAC in Los Angeles,
and almost didn't make it in the HOB gig in Orlando...thank god for the guy who
got dicked by like 7 friends and helped us out with tickets...especially after
finding out that after a 6 hour drive (traffic sucked!) we weren't on DT's guest
list...as we'd been told we were.

So anyways from what I could gather from the VERY back of the venue...the show
was INCREDIBLE!!! DT was in TOP form, and damn near perfect...and unlike their
previous tour, they were a well oiled machine, instead of 5 really good
musicians. Even James...whom I've been very critical of in the past for his
serious lack of stage presence, and screechy vocals...was AWESOME! For those who
were lucky enough to get close to the stage, and didn't know what was going on
with the cameras...HOB simulcasts the shows to TV screens all over the venue,
and also outside...so those of us who can't see a damn thing because the show is
PACKED can still catch every detail of the show. I must say it was cool to see
the band live, and on TV at the same time...kinda different, even though the
camera work sucked...the director obviously didn't know the music, and half the
time had Petrucci on camera when Jordan was soloing...this was even more evident
with the Dregs whenever the violinist was soloing. I must say this was by far
the BEST live show I've ever been to...sound was excellent, everything about is
was just perfect (cept the guest list thingy and having to find tickets last
minute). Sorry I wasn't able to catch up with any jammers at the show...maybe
    this summer :)

Actually, it's now long-time Dregs keyboardist T. Lavitz who's back in the
fold. Dunno what the story was about Jordan. Of course, my question is still
why they passed up Jens Johanssen for Derek... :)

I personally don't care if they play the same set at every show. I only
went to the Boston show (a green plaid hat, if you were there) and I can't
go to any of the others. I am thankful to see them that one time, and their

After having a weekend with my Mullmuzzler cd I can say that I honestly like
it. I did not really notice a lack of drum fills. It is NOT DT, and
doesn't really sound like them some of the time. Shores of Avalon has a
nice led zeppelin feel to it and As A Man Thinks, the intro reminds me of
older queensryche with a touch of INXS. I like it.

maybe he finaly came to his senses and realized how increadibly boring the dregs are...

    ::ducks, tucks, and rolls::

but seriously..i think he quit of his own accord once he worked with jp and mike on the LTE projects.. i'm sure the writing process with those two guys is an experience that would effect anyone and everyone..

so basically, yeah..dream theater is better better than the dixie dregs and he figured it out finally :)

Here's some information concerning the new album of Nightwish. This comes
    from the official page.

    - The release date is May 8th (if everything goes OK). Spinefarm decided
that the single will be released after the album.

    - Some songtitles: She Is My Sin, Wishmaster, Dead Boy's Poem.

    - On the album there'll be 11 new songs. For the first limited press
there'll be also the Eurovision contest song "Sleepwalker".

    - Cover is made by German guy called Markus Mayer, same guy who made
    Oceanborn's German versions cover.

    - Artwork inside the booklet is made by Maria Sandell, who also made covers
    for Finnish Oceanborn.

    - In the studio everything has went fine so far. The vocals will be recorded
at Finnvox Studios on March 20th. Mastering will take place on April 10th.

    - Nightwish will play one icehall gig at Kitee on May 20th which is also the
album release gig. Warm up band is To Die For.

Let's keep the satan worship stuff off the list, mmkay?

BTW, a >million< times? That goes beyond exaggeration and well past
hyperbole. That, my Xian friend, is a bold-faced lie! I hope you repent
for that one. I'll pray for you. Or is that prey?

Hello everyone, Today on the Opie and Anthony Show (a NYC afternoon drive radio show on WNEW), DT was mentioned briefly. A caller called in to complain about the size of venue for the last O&A live appearance. She then said she saw Dream Theater at Roseland and that would be the perfect size venue for the O&A live show. She then said Roseland was great and Dream Theater was too. Of course, the hosts (who are funnier than Howard Stern, IMO) didn't ask her to elaborate on the DT show.

It was the second time in the last few months DT was on WNEW. Mike did an interview promoting SFAM on WNEW's weekend rock show.

Next thing you know, DT will do a cover of "We Deliver Keggers!" (anybody who listens to O&A knows what I mean)

Take care, Adam Perkowsky NP: Niacin "Deep"

What will happen first: DT will stop playing PMU or Yes will stop playing "Seen All Good People" and "Roundabout"? :) Talk about a band that has a huge discography that has played those two songs in every concert since, probably, 1973 (or whenever "Fragile" came out)!

Does yes play Owner of a lonely heart live? I mean if DT plays PMU almost always b/c its their "hit" ..then YES should play Owner :p

    Hey Dennis...

How are ya? There are a few of us Aussies amongst the realm of DT faithful on this list. I am also from Melbourne. No word yet as to wether or not OFB will make it down here and to be honest I wouldn't really hold my breath either. Unfortunately it seems as though we Aussies will once again be shafted by the would be promoters who don't have the balls to bring ANY bands of worth down here anymore! Our pain is endless my friend! Welcome aboard!

Does anyone else here wonder why Pull Me Under gets the attention it gets? When I first bought Images and Words, listening for the first time with unprejudiced ears, I thought Pull Me Under was one of the weaker songs. And this isnt just because it is simpler and not as proggy, because Images and Words was about the first prog album i got (maybe after Crimson King). I think the lyrics are some of of their worst.

every day it looks less and less likely... :(

yer they have and it sounds like theyre going to South America afterwards now (or is this before).

Ive only heard His Voice off Mulmuzzler, but from what Ive seen of Mike M he's seems like one of the most 'wow!' drummers out there. The guys incredible and very flashy, so Im surprised you say this about the CD. Any further comments?
