Listen, I won't overcomplicate this.
Many jammers have SIGNATURES which are too LONG, and
very BORING.
I mean, I am happy to read them once or a few times, but if
you post every day, why do we have to scroll through the same
stuff every day?
Half of the jam is message headers and your signatures.
Please follow the rule, I think it makes sense.

Why even waste time replying and quoting the entire post about the comments,
when you hate them so much? Why do people always take bad criticism to DT
in such a personal way?! Some people are going to like DT, some not, LIFE
GOES ON PEOPLE. Most of those reviews made me laugh my ass off at the
ignorance of the reviewer. If you take such offense at someone elses
OPINIONS about your favorite band's works, then i suggest you find a life.
BTW- DT is my favorite band in the world, with Opeth a close second, both of
which got some bad reviews some good in that page, you dont see me
complaining.

In November while touring Germany I asked Jordan exactly the
same question: Why do you just use one keyboard?
His answer / question: Why not use the state-of-the-art technology?
Why use dozens of keyboards when I can have all the sounds I
want in just one?
He definitely seems NOT to feel limited in any way!

Why not? Just punch in an appropriate patch by hand..
(The pedal-patch-chain setup speaks volumes, though. That's what you have to resort to for very tricky two hand parts if you don't want any gaps!!! I guess the whole set is like that.. good grief.. :) I still don't quite believe I don't get to see this show... :( )

I think most people would rather see it only occasionally than every show. Whoever said that DT doesn't have much of a casual fan base is right - this isn't music for the casual listener. I think the majority of people at the shows are those who have at least a couple of DT albums, not someone who heard PMU several years back and liked it but doesn't own an album. The problem is that DT has no "special" songs, really. I'm talkin' songs that they only break out occasionally - "Where Are You Now?" at the last couple of Xmas gigs in '98 is a good example. Do that shit more often. Like only play PMU occasionally, or throw Scarred or Ytsejam or Learning to Live in somewhere every few shows. Treat the people that go to more than one show to something different every time out, or people won't go to as many shows... Bah... :)

That's inexcusable, I don't care what other people want, it's not about them it's about me... f*ck them... They should just play a show with 2 hours of PMU... All the rest of you bitching can suck my collective ass. :)

Yes, that would be nice... but alas... those songs are nice replacements for PMU. But like you said, there are no "casual" listeners of DT, so we would go see them every show regardless of what they played to view and listen to the musical accuracy that is DT. I personally vote for the Killing Hand.

I haven't seen any shows by DT yet, but all of you are forgetting that this Jordan Rudess has more musical experience than perhaps all the other members combined! (No offense to the other guys, but let's get real...) Let's not limit this on the merits of the equipment alone, or his recorded work with LTE and DT.
Any of you heard his recent contribution to an album of classical works done by the great keyboardists of rock on acoustic piano? How about his score for "A Christmas Carol'? His tours of duty with bands like the Dregs? Not to mention the countless hours of work doing sessions, jingles and other loads of stuff that would fill a few volumes onto anyone's music collection! The experience that he got from being at Julliard and afterwards is at least ten years or so ahead of the other guys in the band. Let's not forget that he actually works for the company that provides him with some of the world's finest synthesizers ever made (Kurzweil).
I'm not dismissing other opinions here, but please consider his entire history as a professional musician. You will see that he is most definitely no fluke!

Queensryche show in Atlanta: review.
After just returning from the show I'd have to say that it was classic Queensryche. They did mostly Empire and Operation:Mindcrime with some of Q2K in there as well. Geoff was in prime vocals as always. Never heard him sing badly yet. This being my 4th or 5th (getting old and forget these small details) I found that Geoff sounded no different when I saw them back during the Empire tour and when they did the Operation: LiveCrime. The only difference was not seeing Chris DeGarmo. Most of the sounds were the same, but there were suttle differences that were expected. Over all it's a concert worth seeing.
Just for the record, Dream Theater still kicked their ass though (as expected). Hmmm, Geoff Tate sings for Dream Theater. Now wouldn't that be cool. Nothing against James at all, but it would be interesting to see what songs they'd come up with between them all. Mike Portnoy's next SUPERGROUP: Mike Portnoy, Geoff Tate, Guitar, keyboards, and drums. Plug in your favorite musician for this DREAM band. No fights or arguments over who's the best here. I don't want no war or arguments just fun. Sorry about the Jordan, Derrick thing (between you all and me let's drop it and forget I said anything).

I'm going to state this as politely as I can..
Let's keep the political and religious discussions OFF the jam. They have no place here. If I want to talk about such topics I'll find a list or forum, of which there are plenty, for that purpose.
I'm sure skadz (and Mike Bahr, for that matter) would agree.

I think he's using a lot more sounds than that. Also, you have to consider that each pedal hit changes the configuration of his keyboard. Jordan does a lot of subtle things on the keyboard while he has it divided into two completely different sounds. This is very evident on the Rudess/Morgenstein Project disc. He's often using completely different sounds for each hand, and this configuration may change much more often than the "most evident" sound does. I think you're over-simplifying the situation.

For once I agree with you.

You're right. They basically had a core consisting of the singer, keyboard player and rhythm guitarist who wrote most of the songs, and lead guitarist, bassist and drummer changed quite regularly. Most of them were studio musicians, and played for a lot of the big names in the Christain music industry. I think they might have split now, but I'm not sure.

Where can I get Marillion's longform "Brave" video? I have tried every online source I can think of, and nobody has it listed. :-(
