Ok Ive just read one of the most bitchiest and stupid jams ever.
I know this is going to sound hypocritical, but it is a plea for sense. Ill keep it short.
    A) When replying, quote enough in your message so that people know what
you are talking about. Dont quote the whole message. If people missed the first
message they can go back and find it. Replying to specific questions or statements is
    a good stratergy.
    B) If people post stupid drivel to the jam, don't reply to it!!!! If you cant control yourself,
at the very least dont quote it again!!!! Sure it was slightly annoying to have to push
the down arrow (gasp) to get past all that spam about the government, but it was even
more annoying to have to wade my way through all the flames that came afterwards. If
you are seriously annoyed, privately email him!
    C) Please realise people on the jam arent out to get you.

Please this information be put in the sign up message.

OK, so the rumours go on and it seems that the summer after Asia DT will
go back to USA. After that? I see South America is mentioned.
But, sniff, ... HOW ABOUT EUROPE? Is it possible not doing Europe
    anymore on this tour??? :(
I just can't believe that more than half of Europe can be forgotten.
Maybe I'm babbling here, and DT will come autumn, early winter, but damn
it folks, at least give us some clue.

Now you go on and and tell me is my urge to kill justified when I read
happy American jammers they will see DT AGAIN?

DT will play bigger places, just not as many places, so that way you lil

instead... Your collective wails will hopefully will Pull You Under.

I am going to the DT concert in 2 days, and I want to know what the best place to go to after the show to get autographs and pictures. Everybody's suggestions will be greatly appreciated. As in regards to a DREAM BAND. What I would like to really see would be Neil Peart, Les Claypool, and John Petrucci. Just think about that combination. Les' crazy bass grooves, Neil's amazing, insane, just not of this world drumming, and of course John. It would probably sound really cool. I just don't see Neil doing anthing other than Rush, and it sucks what happened to him and everything. I bet he has written a lot of lyrics and poems and stuff since the events. I bet they are dark. I can't wait til' the come up with some new stuff. I have been waiting for a long time now. I had a sub in one of my classes the other day, I am a sophomore, and she looked through my cds and said I had bad taste in music. Just to let you know what bands I had in there RUSH (all of them) DREAM THEATER (all of them) LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT and 2 ALICE IN CHAINS SOUNDGARDEN TOOL MEGADETH (rust in peace) METALLICA (master of puppets) JEFF BECK PRIMUS RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE EXPLORERS CLUB ANTHRAX (old stuff) VAN HALEN PANTERA OZZY BLACK SABBATH SLAYER

And I have bad taste in music. She probably hasn't even heard any of these bands. She wasn't older either, she was in her upper 20's. I listen to many diverse bands. Catch you all later.

Don't forget that Deep Purple has been playing Smoke On The Water and Highway Star in almost every gig since Machine Head was released, which was 1972... You'd think they'd be tired of it, but as Jon Lord once said in an interview: "(Playing Smoke On The Water) still makes sense"... And think of how tired Iron Maiden must be of playing Iron Maiden (the song)... Playing one song millions of times, even if it bores you (as Mike said PMU does when they rehearse it), is just one small sacrifice that, IMO, you (should) do for your fans...

Why bother with some impromptu creativity? Why give > the rest of the band the freedom to do something new so we don't all get > bored?

Could you explain how this is related? I don't mean that in a "I'm gonna flatten you like a fucking pancake, boyeee" kind of way, but rather in "I think you have something in mind, that maybe didn't fully escape the 'in your mind' point in its existence." I only ask this because the idea of finding a keyboard that has EVERYTHING, like it has Korg leads and pads, Kurzweil sounds, hell... even MOOG and Arp and Mellotron architecture... that would be a GOOD thing, not a limit on spontanaity. I don't see how it would fuck with creativity or band freedom. Now, if you scale it back, and just take what the Kurz stuff does (no, there's no spinning loops of tape in there, sorry Jordan) and that IS everything you want ("I hate those MOOG <mispronounced to sound like a noise a cow makes> sounds!") then again, that is a good thing. Jordan, as you know, is a very different type of keyboardist than DT has had before. Besides being more technically capable, in just about every way (read: not necessarily BETTER) he uses one keyboard, and takes advantage of functions that several keyboards have, but that most players don't fully use. So where Derek would have one hand on a Trinity and the other on that other Korg thingy, Jordan would have both hands on the same board, and be able to accomplish at least the same technical feat. I think it looks cooler to have multiple boards, but I think he also proves an important point in playing how he does.

    > > He definitely seems NOT to feel limited in any way! > > Then he's in serious denial.

I'm SURE Jordan feels limitations. There's not one of us (not anyone sane, anyhow) on the planet who does not.

    > > Any of you heard his recent contribution to an album of classical works > > done by the great keyboardists of rock on acoustic piano? > > Yes. I thought his technical performance was fine. Last time I listened, I thought that there were several that didn't sound like real piano. I never even opened the liner notes. Are there liner notes? Emerson's track on that disc (Steinway to Heaven, for anyone in the dark here) is by FAR my favorite, even though he's not my favorite player in general.

    > > Let's not forget that he actually works for the company that > > provides him with some of the world's finest synthesizers ever made > > (Kurzweil). > > Is that supposed to mean something? I could work for PRS and that wouldn't > make me a great guitarist.

You're definitely missing a point here. Because Jordan works with the company, he has a lot more knowledge about the ins and outs of his board than the average Joe. I know several players who have not yet tapped into what their gear can do. I'm that way myself. I use my effects processors to get what I need out of them... I haven't sat down and played with many of the functions on my MPX at all! Also, Jordan is in a position to get his requests filled. Things he wants in the board GET THERE. This doesn't make him a better player, in and of itself, but you must certainly agree that it clears a whole lot of obstacles from the field for him, which probably impacts upon his ability to play the hell out of what he's using.

It's no more limiting than a 2 keyboard setup, or a 4 keyboard setup. His limit is in sounds, not technical applications. When you think of your favorite keyboardists, think of their gear. KM didn't have a quarter of the number of possible sounds. If you think back to REAL Prog Rock, like Yes, Wakeman didn't have a TENTH of the sounds Jordan has. Derek probably had a similar number of sounds. But insofar as technical abilities, Jordan can do everything on one board, since he can change what zones of the keyboard create which sounds, on the fly. It takes more coordination, but that's not something Jordan lacks. The biggest problem in doing everything on one board is being able to make the changes fast enough... I've heard this from several players. Jordan can pull it off. What more does he need (besides a bit more soul) in his thang? You can say that "if he didn't have to change sounds as often, he could do more" but that isn't really true, when you consider that someone like Joe Stump can play faster than Yngwie, but can't really do more. If he is getting out exactly what he intends to get out, then giving him 20 boards isn't going to improve on it.

Adriano: > I think you may have missed the point here... When someone suggested > that Jordan's limited, he/she was saying that his use of only one > keyboard during the show limits him and the band, in terms of > improvising and changing the set list on a nightly basis

Can you explain how multiple boards would help this? You still have to program sounds and midi routines so you can change your patches. You're either prepared or you're not, whether it's 1 board or 12.

UGH! That's the C.C. Deville line of thinking! I hate guitarists who change guitars every song, when there's no reason to. Yeah, I understand going for a strat sound here and a humbucker there, but MAN I HATE it when some dude, like that fool in that bluesy Berklee band that opened for DT on the first FII tour, busts out a new guitar for every song! But it all comes back to the same point. If you CAN do it all on one board, and not feel any limitations imposed upon you as a result of that decision, then aren't the other boards just there to look pretty?

Seems like there's a lot more hostility than usual. I can't read more than a few sentences into a jam without someone calling someone else a dick, prick, bastard, asshole, or the all insulting "fuck". Ya know, there are always gonna be people that annoy the hell out of other people, so maybe everyone should practice keeping it off the jam. If you really must tell someone what a little shit he is, do it privately.. you're not impressing us with your vocabulary.

On a happy note, can anyone make any doom metal reccomendations for me? I love the melodic stuff, but I can deal with growling if the music is super cool, like Opeth. Some other doom bands I like: Solitude Aeturnus (just found these guys and they are the best!), Anathema, Paradise Lost, Amorphis, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, and some Tiamet. Private or jam email.. either way.

Hey, I need a sound module or a used keyboard. I already have a controller (and I guess I have a Korg DW 8000 though it isn't mine... it's on extend-o-loan, but has a problem with one of its fader controls...) anyway, I need good sounds at a cheap budget. I consider the sounds from the Korg X series to be good. I know there are better, but that's beyond what I need. I'm looking into the Korg X and N series half rack modules, which I have seen for somewhat cheap, and that new Roland JV 1010 (I guess it's not THAT new anymore)

People have told me to look into the Emu Proteus stuff, as well.

I need help! Any insights, anyone? Sorry for the NDTC!

heh. I'd vote for Puppies on Acid (Mirror intro). It has the required balls/chunk levels.

    >KorgX3 is the FAQ-Man, boyeee!

then the hats are off to ya, and apologies for my poor memory. but I am certain he helped look for a replacement player for the tour (though the band eventually passed over his choices).

I'm looking for a good recording of their Roseland Ballroom performance. I have some DT stuff (as well as a slew of other bands' bootlegs) to trade.

I still don't get it. EVERY decent controller keyboard no matter the manufacturer, Korg, Roland, Kurzweil, can do this stuff. Why does everyone seem to think that it's a Kurzweil exclusive?
