Hey, I need a sound module or a used keyboard. I already have a
controller
(and I guess I have a Korg DW 8000 though it isn't mine... it's on
extend-o-loan, but has a problem with one of its fader controls...)
anyway,
I need good sounds at a cheap budget. I consider the sounds from the
Korg X
series to be good. I know there are better, but that's beyond what I
need.
I'm looking into the Korg X and N series half rack modules, which I have
seen for somewhat cheap, and that new Roland JV 1010 (I guess it's not
THAT
new anymore)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris,
You may want to check out the Roland JV-1080 rackmount unit. IMO, I
consider this to be a great all-around unit. The JV-1080 has tons of
great
patches. If you do enough tweaking with some of the lead patches, you
can get some phat tone. In fact, Jens Johansson has used the 1080 for
his leads when touring with Stratovarius. There's a couple on ebay that
are slightly below $700, but you may be able to find one cheaper if you
keep looking.

Ok for those going to the Queensryche show, do what I did. I wore my Dream
Theater t-shirt I got the week before.
We get enough people wearing them we maybe could make a statement to the
band.
It's worth it to get the whole front row with people wearing the DT
T-shirts.

If Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band can play 3-4 hours
sets each night and change their sets every night, I can't see why
DT on the present tour shuffle the second half of the set around and
or rotate a few songs.

Second - has anyone ever been to the National Guitar Workshop, if so, how was it and was it worth the $700 to go? I got a brochure in the mail yesterday and it looks pretty cool. E-mail me privately or on the jam, whatever, I don't care. 8-)b

For those of you not acquainted with Enchant, their website is at http://www.wco.com/~theoasis/enchant.htm For those of you acquainted with Enchant, this will be some sweet news since they've been pretty quiet for a couple of years.
******************************************
Hello Korg,
Thanks for your inquiry about Enchant. We are alive and well. We are currently working on a new CD that should be out around September! It will consist of about 11 or so tracks and should be very diverse and full of emotion. No title just yet but we're working on it!
Web Site! I know, I know! We will be moving the Web Site and filling it full of info within the next month or so. Sorry for the lack of info, Paul should be taking over the managerial responsibilities relatively soon. Which means we will be adding all sorts of cool new stuff. This should include; Photo gallery, Sound clips, Unreleased material, Lyrics and Interviews w/Enchant! I'll let you know when we move and when we are updated.
F.A.Q. - Where to buy Break or other Encant CD's? Inside/out has just started Inside/out America. This means that all of our CD's should become available in most stores ASAP! If your local shop doesn't have any Enchant on the shelf, ask, no tell them to order some! Blueprint and Wounded are available through Magna Carta Records. Time Lost and Break are on Inside/out and distributed through Century Media in the States. Or shop at home via the Web at www.cdnow.com or www.Amazon.com both carry Enchant and will ship directly to you.
Thanks for your interest and support!

After leaving Houston at 9am, we arrived in dallas at about 12. After dealing with the incorrect directions given us by Yahoo, we finally managed to find the Bronco Bowl. As I looked up and saw the sign I blurted out, "Guys I think this is a bowling alley". I thought I had seen bowling pins on the sign, but when we got closer it was obvious I hadn't. So we quickly through that idea away. But, as we walked through the door the first thing we were confronted with was a large shiny floor with about 20 bowling lanes. That's right folks: last night in Dallas, Dream Theater played a bowling alley.
We realized we were early, so we scoped the place out. Our first impression of the Canyon Club was that it was waaaayyy small. I wandered around some more, and found another door that led to a mini stadium with seating. I returned and told the guys, nah it's bigger than we thought, it stretches around. WRONG. Course we didn't find this out till later.
At 1:00 we started noticing people were getting in line, so we decided we wouldn't miss the opportunity. It would be 8, before they would let us in. At that point we opted for merchandise over the best spots, but it was okay, because we all could still see. The club was PACKED, and it was SMALL. You could hardly breathe through the overcrowding, let alone the heat. I couldn't move two inches without bumping into someone. At one point, one of the guys I was with started feeling faint and had to retreat to the back.
When the band was coming out, there seemed to be all sorts of technical problems. The roadies were arguing with themselves, before the entrance, Mike kept throwing things, John Myung's bass come unplugged during his awesome run on Fatal Tragedy, etc. At the end of the show, we got a clue as to why. The stage and venue were so small, they couldn't even fit their equipment on stage. In Mike's words: "We'll be comin back here next summer, and hopefully they'll give us a better place to play sometime. This place sucks. How bout a big fuck you to the owners of this club who put us in here, instead of the place next door!" the crowd went crazy, and he continued: "We were only able to give you about half our light show tonight. You guys got screwed"
As for the show, it ROCKED!(despite all the problems) But I don't really have time to do a full review right now. Maybe when I get home in a week, but by then, someone will already have done it. Props out to Kirby, Mauricio and co, Compadre32, and all the other assorted people whom I either met, or composed our group (who were mostly MP.Com forum people). Kirby says hello.

I actually bumped into my old music teacher at a Fish concert. On the other hand this was the same person who told us to turn the volume up when we were playing Iron Maiden and Metallica in school. I think she's in her fourties or thereabouts.

Hi to all, this is my first post to the jam! I just have one question... How can you not like Peruvian Skies????? It may start off a little slow, but the end is soooo cool! Even my wife who is not that into the band loves that song. But anyway, I digress, nice to meet you all!Sincerely,Ultraking
Man, PS is one of their best songs, IMHO. Probably the trippiest thing they've ever done, as well as one of the heaviest things they've ever done. And there's those cool 4/4 - 3/4 transitions that actually sound GOOD =^). With the SFAM setlist, they go through over an hour of "metal->ballad->metal->ballad etc." PS is the perfect song to play after that, because it's all dark and spooky and stuff (alright, I'll say 'pink floydish' =^). It's different. Ah well. I'll shut up now.

p.s. Does anyone have a midi file of Autumn Moon? I could have sworn I saw one on the official website a coupla months ago, but I went and looked again, and it's gone? I'm trying to arrange some of DT's piano and guitar stuff for bass through two hand tapping, and I'd really like to take a crack at that one. If anyone has a tab, that would also work....

Why would you want to try out Autumn Moon? It's not a DT song. It was just put on a boot by Mike Bahr because he thought it was written by KevMo. It's actually written by George Winston and is in reality called "Moon." It's on his Autumn album, hence the title "Autumn Moon." :)
If you already knew this and still want it, you can find it on that CD.

So, ... how about jammers, having listened LTE2 myself only once, I'm interested to hear comments - which one is better? :)

Well, I must really say that I like LTE1 over LTE2. While LTE2 has some AMAZING songs - Biaxident, WtWB, Another Dimension, Acid Rain - the jams that they have on it just seem to lack something for me. Usually when I listen to this album, I end up skipping over the improv jams.
The main difference between this and LTE1 is that LTE1 seems to be full of songs, instead of just jams. I love the Three Minute Warning, but event hat seems to have more "song" aspects to it than does LTE2's jams.

You could try out Moonspell. (I recommend "Wolfheart", their first) They have, like Paradise Lost, changed their style...
Since I also like lots of the bands you're into, I'd like to recommend Type O Negative. (although it's not doom, it's goth) This is an awesome band, featuring Peter Steele (mr voice himself) on vocals/bass guitar. Get "Bloody Kisses", this has their greatest (and darkest) songs.

The "I feel distamt" line is Robert De Niro from The Deer Hunter. "I feel bad about this" I think is Timothy Hutton from Ordinary people.
