okay lemme just say as the one who originally said wagner was a nazi that it
was mostly a wisecrack, obviously he couldn't have been an actual nazi. if
anyone wants to dig into this topic and has a basic understanding of some of
the specialized terms involved here's a good starting place:

    http://www.mith.demon.co.uk/WAGNIET.html

and, as jared says, read the primary sources. one of the reasons that US
education is so wacked is that we rely much too heavily on secondary
sources. this is done on the theory that it makes for an "easier
introduction," when in fact what it usually does is just confuse people with
    filtered and biased interpretations.

True that Wagner was not a Nazi (he predated them, I believe), but he was alive at a time when strong Nationalistic views were being born in Germany, as well as other places. Part of the nationalism in Germany at that time, sadly, was the idea that the Germans were indeed superior to other peoples. One of the groups they targeted specifically was the Polish Jews, and later Jews in general. Wagner was not a Nazi, per se, but he was a firm believer in German superiority, and he was anti-Semitic. His ideals were what would later become the ideals of the Nazi party.

Before any of the YTSE purists flame this guy... I want to shout out my agreement with him. I like everyone else here... love I&W, but I think DT as a band is much better today than they were then. I also agree about Strange Deja Vu... there are moments in that song that in my opinion are better than anything else they have ever done. Scenes, in my opinion, is their greatest work, but then again... I like all of the albums, and hate getting into that which one is better argument. Jordan is a perfect fit with the band... I can't wait to see what they come up with next after being together for a little while. I'm not taking away anything from I&W, but there does come a point where you literally know every second of the album so well, that there are no more surprises. Actually, I find it helpful to abstain from listening to it sometimes for like 3 or 4 months to regain some freshness.

Oh well... just some of my perspectives...

Btw, as a reference point to what I wrote above, the DT I like best, is as follows (in no particular order): Learning to Live Lifting Shadows Strange DejaVu Scarred Voices Home Surrounded Fatal Tragedy The "All that we learn... this time" from beyond on this life.... <----- awesome DT moment.

:))) I thought posting on the jam when I saw this too but forgot it. Yeah, I saw it too. I was dazed for a moment. I think those were all Russian or Bulgarian pirate CDs, and since OIALT they did pirate versions of all DT CDs. We have it all here. Just few days ago I was in the shop, a shop of pirate CDs all, and there they were all: OIALT, SFAM, DTG200.

And it's so damn difficult to resist. I remember I was waiting my OIALT CD for so long because of some problems with the pal studying in USA. Originally I was supposed to get it first from all my DT pals here, but nah, they got it on pirate CD. I finally got OIALT 3 months ago. :( And now with SFAM, similar situation. Bah..

My assupmtion is that the pirates saw that DT is getting a lil' more exposed and known so they made their own "Best Of" compilation. IMHO, "Best Of" albums almost always sucks but this one is REALLY a bad one. :)

Now, if only these pirates knew Mike Bahr, we would have new DT albums popping up everywhere. ;o)

    Y'all!

I found loads and loads, at least 50 copies, of the Through Her Eyes single in Mega Skivakademien, the largest CD store in Stockholm Sweden. They were just unpacking em yesterday. The price is 79 kr. Quite an optimistic shipment, since their singles dpt is very dance oriented. So Swedish jammers, there's no excuse this time for not owning a DT single. With the previous ones, it's been maybe 3 or 4 copies on display per store.

Tonite it's PROG-O-RAMA time once again, at 1-2 AM, the frequency is of course Stockholms Studentradio 95,3 MHz. We'll feature newly remastered King Crimson, live trax from The Flower Kings, something from avant band French TV plus a Steely Dan special.

Foreign listeners can download three great prog MP3:s on our home page, visit http://www.progorama.web.com. This month's featured tracks are: * King Crimson - Ladies Of The Road (live) * Abramis Brama - Mesmerization Eclipse * Qoph - Dancing Madly Backwards.

The latter two are Captain Beyond covers from the newly released tribute album, however these versions are sung in Swedish. The Qoph one is very proggy, compared to the original one. Anyone here heard of Captain Beyond before? They released three albums in the early-mid 70's, lineup consisted of Rod Evans (ex-Deep Purple Mk 1), Rhino (ex-Iron Butterfly), Bobby Caldwell (Johnny Winter...)

And yes... whoa, the Dr Rock show, at Rockklassiker 106,7 FM has a DT special right now, they're playing Erotomania and give away CD's.

I just wish that was the case in here too. I went through all five record shops here and found only one copy of the single but even that was reserved. Cool! So it was a misunderstanding then..i apologize Matej! Couldnt help it, since i know there are a lot of people on this list who are definately narrow minded for music that is not "prog" or "shred" or filled with lots of technical stuff.
