According to the sampler I just got, (Empire Music's)
his last project before Yes was a band called The Key,
which sounds quite a bit like current Yes.
Immediately following The Key is The (I'm sure now-famous)
Flower Kings. They do have a sortof Yes/Spock's Beard
Ambiance. Less spare.
other relatively big prog names here: Timothy Pure, Darius,
Eternity X.
If only 3 cartoon series could be as good as Animaniacs,
I might switch back from anime ;)

Thanks to all you guys who have helped us petition for more Rudess and
Petrucci. I wanted to let you guys know the latest.
Alan Paul of Guitar World wrote me earlier this week to say that there is a
small article on John in the June issue. He said that he wasn't sure about
a transcription because of the length of the songs. He also said there were
no plans for Petrucci coming back as a columnist.
By mid week, someone wrote me to say he said it was about time to do another
Dream Theater transcription. Progress! Then today, I saw someone post that
they were looking into Petrucci returning as a columnist ... nothing
definite. But still, we might have John back as a columnist, and that would
have never happened if you guys had not written.
Keyboard contacted Brandon Vaughn about his interview with Jordan Rudess.
Again, they were not interested until people started writing. But no word
back from them yet.
So, if you have not written these two, please do so. We need all the help
we can get to push these guys to a decision.
Nothing from GuitarOne or Warner Bros. We still need to keep writing them.
Someone mentioned to me this was a naiive approach at getting the band
publicity ... that we should be focusing on the bigger magazines like Spin
and Rolling Stone. But, my primary interest is getting them back into the
musicial publications first. If we can get up enough email action, stir the
pot sort of speak, then maybe we might be ready to tackle a big publication.
So even if you don't play that specific instrument, please consider helping
out. All it takes is an email ... what 5 minutes of your whole life to
email all 4 of these companies? Then maybe we can work on getting John
Myung some more publicity. Mike P...maybe ... he gets a lot in Modern
Drummer already. Then tackle the big guns.

I'm sorry for you, the single is good and with an optimal ratio (here
in Italy is about 5 dollars for 40 minutes of music!)
The only "bad" thing is the live version of Home, with James LB not on
top of his capabilities.

There's not much left of Saigon Kick anymore. They released(?) a new
album last year called "Bastard" whose status I'm still vague on. I've
been too lazy to keep up with them lately. From what I've heard that
album was never released, was released only in Japan, hasn't been
recorded yet, blah blah. They came out with a greatest hits album last
year... Jason has done a side project called "Jason' (heh) that is very
similar in sound to Saigon Kick (mostly) and is exceptionally good.
Recently, Jason's time has been tied up with another project of his,
Super Transatlantic. Pat Badger (Ex-Extreme) and Pete Dembrowski (who
played on SK's DitD album) are in the band with Jason last I heard.
Jason's also been putting in alot of time as a producer for alot of new
groups in the Florida area, too...

I have the SF boot. the sound quality is horrible. There are jumps and pops and loud bangs pretty much throughout the whole thing. I had a copy that I tried to clean up, but from what I heard it didn't help much. I would advise the St. Louis show. It is incredible quality.

I am a percussionist so I barely have an idea of what that is... anyway he thinks JP cant do that or something. I could just be dumb in wondering this, but can John do that kind of stuff? ? Paul Gilbert is, or at least was considered one of the best in the world. Racer X broke up a while back, and he joined Mr. Big, in which he plays considerably easier stuff. About JP, I'd be very surprized if he couldn't, put it that way, string skipping arpeggios aren't that hard anyway. I've seen him do more impressive stuff.

Hi guys(and girls). I am a recent subscriber to the Ystejam list so you might have heard this question before. I recently got this video tape in the mail from a guy off of ebay. It contains 5 hours of Dream Theater stuff like videos and live shows. My question is about the first part of the tape with has Majesty on it. It looks like it was recorded in 1988(?) and features all of our guys including a short Dio-like guy, I assume this is Charlie Dominici(sp). They play three songs (1 instrumental and 2 with lyrics). The instrumental sounds kind of like Ystejam and I don't recognize the lyric songs.
I was just wondering if you jammers had info on this tape like where and when it was shot or what songs they are playing? I tried to look up the info on the Official Site but I couldn't find anything.
