Regardless of what you think of the music or the web site, you have to
admit that as an album name, marillion.com (along with jethro-tull.com and
any others) is truly pathetic and unoriginal. I cringe whenever I see it.

The finale of 'Only A Matter Of Time', those keyboards. The ending of 'Space-Dye Vest, after the last vocals and the fade out. Plus many many more.

Actually, from what I have heard, the script for part 2 and 3 was written together with the first part! So it is not just a pure answer to commercial success - it is something these two geniouses (the Wachovsky bros) wanted to do all along! So, Wake Uuuup, and stay Awake!

Well, at least we now know who the true Pantera fans are. Reinventing the Steel is a fabulous effort that just proves that Pantera is aging like fine wine. After FBD and GST, which, although both good albums (although they had "radio friendly" songs, if Pantera is capable of writing them), were a step down from Cowboys, etc., RtS is so refreshing! I have a radio show at the school I attend (Bates College), and I played the entire album straight through, and watched my ass get kicked around the studio. This is reinforced by the number of calls thanking me for playing this triumph of an album. And what's with the allusion to Control Denied? Next thing you're probably going to say is that Chuck is going downhill too. If anything his work is becoming more melodic and complex - a trend that can be followed through his carreer in Death and Cynic. He's almost gotten too good for his genre, which I never considered to be possible. Considering that it was completely independently released, the Control Denied album is a huge sucess.

    >I am not the biggest fan out there of Pantera (hell, I am barely a fan, even >though I >ave purchased everything from "Cowboys" on except the live crap) and I have >to say that pretty much any cd except for "Cowboys" is for sale/trade. But most probably the best is: Steve Vai. And we all know that JP has SV as an idol. Still for me |> Petrucci rules, I mean, he's so fast, listen to the end of the solo from Paris: he demolished the guitar playing the bumble-bee, |> you can hear him picking the stringz. | |imho i think steve vai is the better guitarist. ive wondered if Petrucci could hold up a solo career the same way |as Steve Vai does and still sound fresh and creative. I know that it would be difficult now, but if Petrucci was a bit |older, do you think he could have made a decent solo career?

You're right, now Petrucci ain't up to a solo career. If he decides to do that in a few (or more) years, he would do just fine considering his qualities and abilities, but I don't know what would he play, if he played prog - we'd have an other LTE, maybe he would play something heavier - he's into Pantera. Anyway, about the freshness, my opinion is: he wouldn't hold up the same, DT has evolved during the years but they're 4 great musicians (I've counted James out cos I think he doesn't make the music as much as the rest of the band makes it) but still it's evolution definitely has a lot to do with having three different keyboardists, Charlie seems to have had a lot of influence, now he's gone and LaBrie looks underestimated by the rest (If you have watched Live in Tokyo '93 you have seen that they have payed so little attention to him). So, to sum up, if he gets good musicians to play on his solo project it could stay fresh and inventive, or maybe if he found players. I say players because I define a player as a man who plays well but something that is already written, but a musician is a man who makes music, and plays well if possible. However I wish him luck with whatever he decides to do in future and I will definitely check it out.

    |Actually, Wes Borland wasn't in the category, hell he wasn't in ANY |category! Neither was Kirk Hammet (thank god). The 3 people in |front of Petrucci in "best 7 stringer" were: | |1. Steve Vai (no shit)

    OK for this one.

    |2. Jimmy Bruno (an AMAZING Jazz 7 stringer)

Don't know who the guy is, but I suppose he's good if he's a jazzer.

    |3. Korn guys

Korn jerks if you ask me. I mean they play well and that's OK, but all they do is fool around with processors and effects and play heavy riffs. I like some of that stuff, but look at the quality of the music.

    Take care y'all

Of course you exist, it would be very odd if it weren't so. But what I do not understand is this: why does so many people consider DT as a loud band, I mean they think of it as Cannibal Corpse and likes, you know, it seems they can't hear the music in it from the guitar, which isn't so loud. I played Once in a LIVEtime to my girlfriend and she was pretty cool about it until it came to Lines in the sand and James' screaming then she simply freaked out. I wonder if you can explain it to me?

    Hi there!

DT got one good review of the Stockholm, Sweden gig, in Aftonbladet: ----- V)Bälpolerad hårdrock som faktiskt svänger bra 4/5

Dream Theater Plats: Solnahallen. Publik: Fullsatt.

    >KorgX3 can't believe they're making a Matrix 2 and 3. :P How lame. Actually, the story line was always conceived as a 3-parter. Hollywood being what it is, however, they had to prove themselves successful with the first film in order to be green-lighted on the sequels. The guys who wrote it, are writers for comic books. Basically, they wanted to set up a premise where they could have superheroes, but that the public would still buy. The general public is rather down on comic books, so the first film sets up the premise of how people can fly and move superfast, etc., while tricking the public into thinking it's not "super-powers" (not having the hero dressed in tights probably helped). Anyway, I quite liked The Matrix, and am looking forward to the sequels. Of course, I've rarely seen a movie that I didn't enjoy on some level. There are movies that I never want to see it again, but I usually just try to enjoy them on their own terms. Oh well, that's enough off-topic rambling for now...

Actually, that sounds cool. :) I was just thinking it was a commercial ploy. :P The Matrix was a total kickass movie (imo, of course) and there's nothing like commercial success to ruin a good movie. hehehe. I'm surprised they haven't started making a Titanic 2 yet. :P I'm sure they will, though, someday...

So, I'll be taking a couple of days off work, lucky me!, to meet up with Graham in Manchester and we'll be down to London the next day to meet up with any others.

Can we get a headcount for who we should be expecting to see? Go a for a meal/drinks beforehand etc? We reckon we can assume an intial name count of Charlie, Adrian, Jeremy , Chloe, and Nikki.

I just got the boot from teh unplugged show in rotterdam, the last chorus of the silent man when James sings high in the register for some reason just does it to me. I really like the drum groove at the beginning of the song. Right up there with that is when they went from Met 1 right into the kick drum and started Overture 1928. That was probably the best 1-2 pinch for a live show (i only have it on CD)

I also got the postcard in the mail yesterday.. I can't wait for BLN to come out.. I adore the Christmas Albums (and other Savatage/Paul O'Neil works).

M:I2? That shit is nothing but pure corporate product. I plan to avoid it like the plague, if at all possible. John Woo can kiss my ass. The Matrix 2 & 3 are part of a developing story. For me, the choice is clear. The first Matrix was never intended to be a stand alone movie.

Time for a bowl of Kix.

Is it just me or does it seem like the titles were inspired by other artists:

    Title Disconnected (song by Queensryche)

Songs: One (song by Metallica) So (album by Peter Gabriel) Pieces of me (ok, a normal expression, but I believe there at least is a song by Tori Amos (Tear in your hand) that contains "pieces of me") Something from Nothing (sounds alot like Something for Nothing by Rush) Still Remains (it contains a "still" as in "still life", but that is kind of farfetched :) disconnected (see albumtitle)

Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to it. This will hopefully be the album of the year!

Hey, I nkow a lot of people don't listen to Sepultura after Max left, but I got Against for Xmas and haven't listend to it taht much (I think only 2 times) This is really good metal, mixed in with the cool tribal beats, instruments etc. Derrick Green has an interesting voice, its metal yet he seems to have good singing range within his raspy voice. Does anyone else have an opinion on this disc?

Jordan seems to feel comfortable with certain patterns during improvisation. His playing in 914 and few other places on LTE2, is the same pattern he uses in LTE1 - 3MW on the very beginning and later in the song. That percussive tone ...

Also about Mike, these are exactly same as the Paradigm Shift intro:

    WTWB: 5:23-5:27 Chewbacca: 6:02-6:04

To me it seems exactly same. Someone said Mike is becoming predictive. :) Yeah, it's true, many of his rolls on LTE2 are just so typical Portnoyish. :)

    Two things -

    1) DT in the UK - does anyone know what's full, what's not? I'm in London, but I'll travel if necessary to fit my diary

    2) Buying a Guitar: I've decided that 31 is not too old to start guitar. Can anyone advise me on what sort of guitar (and other equipment) I should be looking for. I used to play cello and a bit of piano, so I should be able to pick it up. It's just that hearing that Vinnie Moore and Yngwie had been locked in their bedrooms since age 8 practising 12 hours a day has pretty much put me off even starting for ten years. So although I'd like to play Petrucci, Vai, Yngwie, Macalpine, Moore, later solo Friedman, I'll probably be aiming to play Ritchie Blackmore, Buck Dharma, Eddie VH, Eagles, Steve Clark, Ritchie Sambora in the short term. Budget is not really the issue - I'd like something that allows me to try these guys' stuff out, but I don't need a rig that'll crank more dBs than Wembley Arena.

Private email would be best, I expect. All help gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Jonathan
