Dunno who ORIGINATED it, but our fearless Eckie has been using "Shredi" for
at least two-three years on this list. :)

"StolenTrst@aol.com" decided to "educate" Kevin Madden:

    ha. haha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

If you had ANY idea how many CDs Kevin owned and how many different styles
of music he listens to, you would be wishing for a hole in the ground to
open and swallow you for making such a ridiculous statement.

Personally, I don't know how I'm going to wait till Christmas 2001 for
    these films. :)

Yes. It's utter crap. You'll find that nearly anybody with a real head on
their shoulders dismisses Dianetics after barely a second thought.
Moreover, almost ALL of L. Ron Hubbard's stuff is poorly written and way
overrated (ask any hardcore sci-fi fan like meself). The masters like
Heinlein, Asimov, Sturgeon or Silverberg could put Hubbard in their hip
    pocket.

    cheers,

It's always been my assumption that they get paid based on ticket sales and stuff, since you always hear that most bands lose money on most tours.

I won't take this up here, beucase Todd's right about one thing -- this is *way* off topic. However, I look forward to a debate through private e-mail, if anyone feels compelled to continue.

They're also playing a pre-NEARfest show that Friday night, at some bar or whatever in Bethlehem. I unfortunately won't be there, because I need to work up here in NY that Friday (as do my travel companions), but I'm dying for echolyn to get back in the saddle and start kicking ass again.

Anyone know anything about their new bassist?

ProjeKct 2: Fripp on guitar, Trey on Warr, Adrian on V-Drums. ProjeKct 3: Fripp on guitar, Trey on Warr, Pat on electronic drums.

]From what I understand, there's one live album from each, plus a studio album from 2.

There's also the boxed set, with all sorts of stuff from all 4 projeKcts.

Robert and Trey on guitar and Warr again, and Bill Rieflin on drums and weird percussive things. Sort of projeKct-ish (except that Rieflin isn't in KC). Cool stuff. We mightnot like it, but record companies get the job done. We might bitch about OFB not getting the exposure they deserve, but that's because teenie boppers like Brittany Spears and N'Sync and they've got daddy's money. The solution to exposure would be for us all to buy 2 or 3 copies of each DT album. That way, OFB gets 3 bucks instead of just one, and Elektra gives 'em more money to tour and for the next album. Oops, wandering a bit...

If people are not satisfied with corporate radio crap, and they are looking for something like Dream Theater, they will search for it and they will find it, media exposure or not. We all did. -Fran ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

    Joe,

I'd be glad to help you out. Contact me privately if you need more info. I would think you could put together a pretty kick-ass system NEW for that amount. Anyway:

Jamo makes very good shit. I would inspect all of the speaker drivers to make sure they are not damaged (dust covers pushed in, torn, etc., Check to see if they are they solid: are they heavy? Does the knuckle rap test hurt your hands? - if so that's good!) Tastes for speakers can vary widely, so listen to them both loud and soft to make sure they sound good TO YOU! Send me the model info and I may be able to dig up a review from somewhere.

I wouldn't buy receiver gear used unless it was very recent. DVD uses digital inputs for Dolby Digital (AC-3) and DTS decoding to get the most out of a DVD (they are not required but you will want it - trust me). New high-quality multi-channel receivers with beaucoup power, latest digital signal formats, and video switching can be had for <$500.

I just have a quick question, I'm going to Boston on Tuesday, I've never been there before and I was wondering if anyone could tell me some cool places to go see some good music, prog or otherwise. Or just some cool bars or clubs to hang out at. I would be very appreciative.

If this has been said already, please ignore, I've been offline for a while and missed some jams. Ok Metallica, why stop your suit at napster? Why not sue the makers of CD burners which can be used to copy albums so people don't have to buy them. And while your at it, how about all the stereo componets of yestayear with the phonograph and cassette players where you could copy records for people who didn't want to buy albums? I remember when FM radio used to play full length albums on Friday nights, for the purpose of recording them. And one of those albums my brother recorded was Topographic Oceans(nice segue huh?) How do you not like Topographic Oceans? Its very Yes in my opinion and has lots of emotion. I haven't listened to much of the stuff after that until 90125, which I liked but agree that its not really a Yes album.

Neither DSL or cable modem ties up your phone line and both are always on. The cable modem speeds allegedly go up to 1.5Mbps for downloading, but I generally see closer to 300kbps - 700kbps on my cable modem. Upload speeds are around 100kbps. You have to take into account that there are other network bottlenecks between you and the remote server so you seldom get the ideal speed. My cable modem costs $40/month. With DSL from Bell Atlantic, you can get download speeds of 640kbps for around $49/month. Upload speed are 90kbps. If you want faster, they offer download speeds of 1.6Mbps and 7.1Mbps for more money. Of course, those speeds can also be slowed down by the remote networks and servers. The main problem with both solutions is that they're still hard to get in most areas. Bell Atlantic serves DSL in my area, but I'm over 2 miles from the local office so I can't get it. You'll have to call about it. I think that for now either one is a fine solution. I love having the high bandwidth cable modem in my home (my wife and friends can all play EverQuest at the same time. Woohoo!). The high bandwidth and always on service makes the internet usable. Both DSL and cable modem would provide that. If you have a choice, I might recommend the DSL since it doesn't share bandwidth with anyone but I haven't had much experience with it.

On the subject of Yes, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Fragile. I love that LP, it's what got me into Yes in the first place. Especially the instrumental pieces (The Fish kicks ass!) are simply brilliant...

I've been wondering the same thing... Well, not that part of why the thread is so boring, and that's quite simple, IMO: because it's gone on for WAY TOO LONG... But as to Korg's whereabouts... That's a mystery...

    >I FINALLY managed to get Live in Tokyo. Wow what a great tape that >is! Mike's drumsolo kicks serious ass.

Surely does... Infinitely better than the one he does on OiaLT... Just like Ytsejam is much better on LiT than on OiaLT... I guess they decided to start doing the "Fasten Your Seatbelts" thing because they were tired of playing it (just like Mike said they have to fool around with PMU because they've played it so many times), but to me, that just ruined the song... The tempo is so freakin' fast the notes in the solos get all mixed up...

How many of you read this letter and were completely sick? I've been (or was, not sure by now) a fan of Metallica since 1991, and I think everything they did before S&M was quality music (yeah, most of the people who complain about Load and Reload IMO do it because it's Metallica, if they were done by other band people would be saying how they liked the albums and stuff like that), but this letter made me sick to my stomach...

First they say the lawsuit is not about the money, but then they come up with this:

"We have millions of dollars going to convince you that we don't suck.

And that's what we're trying to protect with our lawsuit. If music were free, there would still be music, there would still be bands, but the promotional money -- or as we call it in the business, the "we don't suck" money -- would dry up. And without that money, face it, you'd be lost. Without the magazine ads and the stand-ups and the elaborate 3-D record covers in the music store windows you'd have to rely on your own personal tastes to decide what music to download and listen to. And let's be honest, if that's what you were into you wouldn't be downloading Metallica albums."

I mean, it's not about the money, but they're doing it to protect the money they use to promote themselves... That just doesn't make sense to me... I apologize for the (sorta) long post, and I know that Metallica is somewhat of a forbidden subject in the jam, but this letter just made me wanna shoot them...

    Later, Adriano

Dear Ytse Fans, After watching LIT, I have concluded imho that the part from TLF that intros the guitar solo backed up by and awesome drum beat, great sounds from kevin, and myung doing his thing is the best guitar and instrumental JP have ever done. Phenomenal, especially when hooked to a hi-fi vcr and surround sound. Just my DT thoughts of the day. ciao chris

Hey, try Dreamscape !! "Very" is absolutely at the top of the tree. "Trancelike State" is good as well. Almost as good as Superior !! (Really) A real must puchase.

First, just for listeners of Tony Kornheiser, HOW YA DOIN'?

    HOW'S IT GOIN?

Anyway, I have a different view of the gun contol debate. You're all fucking wrong and you're going to hell for it- oops, just a little lapse from Bible school. I think the hand gun, as it appears today, is a relic: a weapon whose time has passed, at least for what so many people claim to want them for. I feel that the gun will be phased out anyway by smarter new non-lethal weapons which are being proven very effective even today. Soon these new weapons (and if they are smart, gun manufacturers will get on this bandwagon) will be what people buy for protection. They should me made available to anyone of age with a simpler background check. And maybe not even a permit or license of any kind (vs. all the shit you have to go through now to get a handgun- if somebody was out to get you, you can't just say "can you wait five days so I can get a handgun?"). This will give people the protection they want/need (a weapon that incopacitates) without the hang-ups of licencing or the likelyhood of that weapon could be used to kill THEM, like what happens a lot these days. And sorry, guys who believe that target practice with a live handgun is the greatest: target-practice technogology is far more advanced, accurate and cheaper to operate. You don't see many people practicing sword-fighting with real swords anymore, do ya? They have a name for that - FENCING. The only use for live handguns is war, and really they are only used sparingly there anymore. The gun will become as obsolete as the sword, SO: * their won't be any or many new guns hitting the streets, no need for new gun laws * guns will become collectibles (even more) just like the old swords * crimnals WILL find it harder and harder to get live guns, so gun deaths will decrease * the new technologies will be more accurate and relaible than handguns, so the advantage in a situation will be for the new stuff * it will at least be much harder for kids to kill themselves/each other with this new technology, yet it WILL STILL BE EFFECTIVE * we won't have to be anti-gun or pro-gun, we can all be pro-non-lethal

I believe in the constitional right to bare arms, and people will still be able to exercise this right using these non-lethal weapons and target guns. After all, we'll still have hunting rifles and shotguns, right? And we won't be TAKING AWAY the handguns, just providing a BETTER ALTERNATIVE. Imagine that: phased out by natural selection :)

Any hints on summer gigs back here in the States? (with the whole band) Can the US support DT for another round, or will they be pumped up for another recording spree?
