I wanted to say that I am also a huge fan of the band OP and for anyone else
that liked them, and is just as upset that they broke up after Sony dropped
them, check out a band named November Project (yeah, I chuckled at the name
too). They have a few MP3s to listen to at MP3.com and check out their website
(novemberproject.com). The same song writers from October project write for
November Project, plus a couple of the people in the band are the same. They
have a new female lead singer who is very good (and nice to look at too!). I
bought their demo disk from their site and it is great.
On a similar note, for those of you that like OP, does anyone know what happened
to Mary Fahl the original OP singer?

As being the Vai-titled "Biggest Vai Fan Alive", I agree :-) (Waiting for a
negative response weren't ya?) ALS mixes a little bit of Vai into 7 songs.
Brutality, Serenety, Ugliness and Beaty into one black and blue disc.
My favorite Vai cd of all time is Fire Garden, (the cd that made me keep
playing guitar, and my first live Vai experience was during the G3/Fire
Garden tours), a 74 min cd, constructed of 2 phases, an instrumental and a
vocal.
I think the main reason people suggest Passion And Warfare is because it's
the cd that revolutioned guitar playing for years to come, when that came
out, everyone went, "HUH?", the title is perfect for the record. I think
lately Steve has really tapped into his guitar tone and the over-all
knowledge of what he wants in songs, also his sense of melody has gone
through the roof.
I better stop before I don't shuddup :-)

On the LIT Video, Portnoy pronounces it "MY-UNG", while standing in line at
both my DT shows, I heard it pronounced, "ME-YUNG", "MOOY-YOUNG", "ME-YOONG",
and "MUNG", my guess is that it's "MY-UNG", since Mike actually knows
him...but who knows...some of my friends still pronounce my last name wrong..

I didn't vote in this poll myself, but I'm not
surprised at the results. At the time that FII came
out, I was pretty critical of Hollow Years and Take
Away My Pain. Not because they were mellow. I didn't
like the music all that much (esp. the "happy" guitar
of TAMP), and cringed at the opening lyrics of the
songs. The demo version of Hollow Years had a "bridge"
section before the chorus that was the best part of
the song. It was removed in the final version.
As for you conclusion about poppier and mellower
songs, I don't think that's the case. I like both
poppy and mellow songs. I just didn't think that those
songs were very good.

You know, I really thought this was a good idea the first thousand times. Get a bunch of famous musicians who are all roughly in the same genre, and do a supergroup album, to see what they come up with. But isn't this too much already? Perhaps it is has been protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens very well. No one complains about being hungry when they're stuffing their face. No one realizes that they have freedom (protected by the Constitution) until it's taken away.
On the other hand, there were some people who were happy to live in Stalin's Russia and Hitler's Germany. I assume from your post that this method of government would make you happy?

Brad, what you say does make some sense. But keep in mind that what your stand is also a stand! Absolute freedom of speech is a choice; it is also judging - that it is *right*. So the sentence I quoted on the top, IMO does not solve the problem in the other quoted sentence. Well I just wanted to note that. Other than that, I agree pretty much with what you said.

There's definitely quality loss when converting to MP3 - it's a fact. MP3 uses "lossy" compression to achieve its small size. If you're very familiar with a recording, and have even decent ears, you can hear noticable differences between the original and the MP3 copy.
If you want non-lossy compression you have to go with something like SHN (Shorten) format which only gets about 2:1 compression, so file sizes are still huge for a whole CD. It's great when transferring entire CDs worth of original-quality bootlegs across the net, tho'. :)

Now I got the email from Century Media Records where this was announced and another announcement from Angra's previous record company in France and NEITHER one said 'ex-'. Adding that to your post is just out of Order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a parallel project - as you would see if you read the bios etc on the website. Angra are taking a break right now and will probably resume recording at the end of the year. The earliest expected date for their next Studio album is Spring 2001. It's not as if Andre hasn't worth with Miro and Sacha before!
Coming on top of the 'Symphony X list rumour about 'the death of Angra's bassist' - also totally without foundation, their management must be working double-time right now stomping on all the false rumours which are appearing - just 'cos they are taking a break after a heavy year (1999) touring, some of the guys getting married etc.

P.S. To the guy who mentioned that DT T-shirts cost $40 in the UK. Well, when DT continue to lose the profits of the European tour in playing a few gigs in the UK (according to Mr Portnoy in an interview with Classic Rock magazine) - it would seem to make financial sense to claw back a little on the sale of T-shirts. I for one don't complain (OK I can affiord it and I may not be in the majority there), I expect that the Tshirt are priced accordingly for the market they are playing in.

I like Braindance, and I personally hope that the two female singers stay in the background. There are very few female singers I like, and I especially dislike operatic ones, though for some reason I really dig the chick from Nightwish. BTW, is Anneke the singer for Nightwish or The Gathering? I seem to have confused these two bands. I much prefer the lower, sultry sounds of Tori Amos and Fiona Apple. I guess it's not just women either, I am none too fond of most high tenor male prog singers, with the exeption of the amazing Ray Alder.

I second that "HEY!" considering it'd be damn difficult to ever sing anything worse than Geddy Lee has. Shame, Rush would've been a decent band if he hadn't shrieked like a balless bitch all the time. :)

Anekke is the singer for Gathering, who is IMO of course worlds better than the nightwish girl. The nightwish chick is very operatic, but give me anekke's beautiful emotive vocals any day. If you enjoy more subtle female vocals, the Gathering's how to measure a planet is great..
