Here's an interesting quote about freedom of speech by J.B.
Bury from waaaaay back in 1947. :) It's from "A History of Freedom
of Thought".
"It is a common saying that thought is free. A man can never be hindered from
thinking whatever he chooses so long as he conceals what he thinks. The
working of his mind is limited only by the bounds of his experience and the
power of his imagination. But this natural liberty of private thinking is of
little value. It is unsatisfactory and even painful to the thinker himself,
if he is not permitted to communicate his thoughts to others, and it is
obviously of no value to his neighbors. Moreover it is extremely difficult to
hide thoughts that have any power over the mind. If a man's thinking leads
him to call in question ideas and customs which regulate the behaviour of
those about him, to reject the beliefs which they hold, to see better ways
of life than those they follow, it is almost impossible for him, if he is
convinced of the truth of his own reasoning, not to betray by silence, chance
words, or general attitude that he is different from them and does not share
their opinions. Some have preferred, like Socrates, some would prefer today,
to face death rather than conceal their thoughts. Thus freedom of thought,
in any valuable sense, includes freedom of speech."
-- J.B. Bury, "A History of Freedom of Thought"
And another one about giving up your liberties to feel safer.
This one is really ancient. ;-0
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary
safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
- Ben Franklin, c. 1784
"I think that we should be men first, and subjects afterward. It is not
desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, so much as for the right."
-- Henry David Thoreau "Civil Disobedience"

I used to have a crappy MIDI version of Cliffs of Dover. I believe I got
it from http://pigeons.net
I know that site's gone through alot of changes in the past 6 months and
I haven't visited recently, so it may still be there, and it may not.
Hope this helps.

Well on the information ive read, it says its LOOSELY based on it. Ive
been
hearing about this movie for almost 2 years as well. And just recently
ive seen
it refered as the ripper owens story..
they always just said that it was about a guy who's the lead vocalist in
a cover
band who gets asked to replace the original singer , someimes the reason
was
because the original singer was a bitch, and sometimes because he died..
Wasn't the new singer for AC/DC a roadie for the band before he became
singer?
I found this when I was looking at a recent history of flag burnings.
Richardson, Texas: Kavoos Mortezapour, an Iranian immigrant who police
say
is given to foul-mouthed tirades against Jews, Iraqis, gays and the U.S.
government was charged with desecration of a flag.
Mortezapour, who also goes by the name Kevin Moore, denies all charges.
A convenience store clerk was recently robbed up here in Washington.
His name? James LaBrie.
(The owner then chased the robber down the street and shot him dead.)

With all this talk about trading mp3s and selling boots, etc, has anyone wondered why it is actually LEGAL for ticket agencies to buy up all the good seats for a show before the fans can get tix, and turn around to sell the seats for many times the face value? Why is that legal?!?!?!
just a thought.

Message-ID: <003001bfbc3e$a80a3a20$da85fea9@madstation>
I've been told that in most home audio applications, ground loops are
because of the quick and dirty wiring style on the inside of the gear
itself. Supposedly this isn't a tricky wiring thing to fix, though I
haven't done it myself. A D.I. (direct injection/direct insertion, also
known as "direct box") probably isn't the best way to go, even though
they're not as expensive as you might think. A ground lift is not the ideal
solution... it supposedly impacts upon sound... Mesa recommends not using
the ground lift on the TriAxis unless you absolutly must, for this very
reason.
I know in music gear, isolation is one solution... making sure that there's
no metal on metal contact between one unit and another, by use of rubber
nubs, and making sure they dont directly touch the rack rails... if this is
inevitable, there's a thing where you can send a copper wire down the rack
rail to a ground source, I believe... basically you need all the gear to be
grounded he same, from what I understand.
I'm sure there's gotta be someone here who knows about the wiring issues...
Al? Anyone? If no solution comes up here, e-mail me directly and I'll
contact my recording professor and get the scoop from him.

Hehe. Welcome to the awesome world of high-volume boot trading. And
boot-scalpers say traders don't put any time into their hobby.. HA! :)

No, you got me wrong, I was talking about the power supply of either the VCR
or your computer. Just isolate the common ground on one side of the cable
that adds the hum.
> > It may also help to disconnect the antenna plug of the VCR and/or disconnect

The antenna suggestion comes from isolating one side completely from the
ground line.
So like, it doesn't help anything of your isolate the computers ground
and leave the monitor's connected, since the hum then 'comes' over the
shield of yout VGA-Con.

If your sharing that (power)line it may be another power consumer that
dirties the ground-line. Perhaps a fridge ?
(And sometimes it's does matter where to plug)
Some other times adding ground is the solution, like your VCR has a power
plug which has only Phase and 0.
Maybe all this looks like nonsense, because I really have no idea how
the connectors in the US look like.....
