influence [infloo-ens] - v/t have a mental, moral or emotional effect on; affect, modify.....
Any guitar player who's technique you study and play becomes part of your overall
voice as a musician. I don't think he would know a good samba if it bit him in the ass,
but he's still entitled to call Di Meola an influence.

Kevin Moore seems to be a relatively common name... On the music side of
things, you have blues guitarist Keb' Mo', whose real name is also Kevin
Moore. Of course since he doesn't use that, it avoids confusion, but it'd be
kinda funny to see some prog or Chromakey fan go to a Keb' Mo' concert and
wondering where the hell Kevin was upon seeing a 40-year old black man on the
stage.... :-)

Bah. Petrucci is actually a trained jazz guy, and you can hear it in his
playing. I'm sure Petrucci knows and loves the Blues, and I know he could
play it iof he wanted. It's not that hard to play the blues, and 99.9% of
the soloing is done out of teh Blues scale, which I've heard him use a
plethora of times. Just because he doesn't play it doesn't mean he can't
appreciate it or know it.

I agree somewhat with what youre saying, but JP is NOT a trained jazz guy. He
is awesome in his own right, but a trained jazz player its something he's not.

Can anyone give me the URl to his official page?
It used to have a gallery of all the cd's he's done the artwork for.
Im looking for that page. I searched on yahoo but only found a couple of
fan sites. Ive seen his work on a couple of art books my brother have
(besides owning a lot of cds that he's worked on) and I like it a lot.

John said he was listening to the radio one night, and an SRV song came on
and he was just floored by his over-all delivery. Just because someone is an
inspiration to someone, doesn't mean it can be seen in they're playing style.
If a painting of trees and lakes inspires you, do you try making sounds of
trees falling or running water with your guitar? (Well, for the Synth
guitarists, ok..but..for the most part, you know what I mean).
SRV is an inspiration of mine, and there is hardly any blues in my
playing whatsoever. Yanni is a HUGE inspiration of mine, but you rarely hear
any Yanni-influenced music coming from me.
Maybe Stevie just inspired John to play with more soul, who really knows but
John. I can hear a big sound change in John from WDADU to I&W to Awake. I
think John plays with much more feeling now than he ever has.
Some people just get hit with things in different ways.

A perfect example of how well he can play blues is in that LiT To Live
Forever. He plays some interesting blues figures at the end of his solo;
it's quite interesting to hear him playing that kind of stuff.
You can download a (rather crude but high quality) recording of To Live
Forever from LiT at http://cout.dhs.org/tlf-lit.mp3

Hey Gang....
I'm looking for certain 80's metal...preferably in a trade, but knowing where
to buy these would be cool too...most of these are hard to find/expensive
(import)
I would like to find :
Odin (the one with "the writer"..preferably on disc, but will take any
source in trade)
Black N Blue - Nasty Nasty, In Heat, etc... (cd)
Rough Cutt - self titled and wants you (cd)
King Kobra - Ready to Strike , 3, and Thrill of a Lifetime (cd)
Tony MacAlpine - Edge of Insanity (cd)
Prism - Armageddon (cd)
Metal Church (self-titled cd)
Vinnie Vincent Invasion - self-titled and all systems go (cd)
If any of you have any of these cd's please e-mail me privately and maybe we
can work out a trade....I have extensive Dream Theater, Queensryche, etc., to
trade.....
Thanks !

LOL, I have never seen a bunch of folks so much obsessed with a certain
group of people. :)
Dreaming them, noticing every single person that has even minimum
similarities with the above mentioned ones etc ... weird stuff.
And now for the European folks here, ... guys, I was so pissed off from
EUROVISION! ;( I have never heard
Yeah, I know the festival is supposed to contain easy poppy cute songs,
but damn it, I can acknoledge a good pop song, but these were pitiful.
Israel, the first song? "Wooo, BE HAPPY!", what the heck??
Germany, continuing to be assholes with mindless songs. Christ, if
that's the song which won, God knows how were the others.
And the winner, Denmark, those 2 grandpas, what a lousy average song.
Our 4 lil' girls (Macedonia) song was IMHO much better that the most of
the songs, but the missies were nervous and made some mistakes during
singing live. The studio version was pretty good.
But nevermind, I don't wrote to complan our failure. :) I meant, ... the
voting and the winner, and the whole event were obviously fixed. I
remember back in the old days, Eurovison had really some cool tasty
songs, and it was a thrill watching it. Heh, when Yugoslavia wond (the
dinosaur ex-YU I meant) we were shooting guns from our balcony. :)
But this time, ... it smelt like politics, and it smelt bad. I can
imagine politicians having a buisness deal in a room, and the one says
to another "OK look here, we'll give you a winner prize on Eurovision
this year, and a whinning soccer team in the finale, would that be
enough to cover your expenses?"
I know some folks don't have taste for music, but these were pretty bad
choices even for those folks. I refuse to believe someone actually voted
the winners out of liking the song.
oh well, ... it ain't worth all the talk anyway.
