        Hey everybody,

Regarding Mike's new signature line of Sabian cymbals, I
was wondering if anyone has them, or has tried them out at
a drum shop? They STILL don't have them at my local drum
    stores.
In particular, the "Max Stacks". I'm interested in
these, but I was wondering about their durability. I've
always played chinas inverted, and these are chinas stacked
on top of crashes/splashes. Would you damage the upturned
edges of these cymbals after awhile, seeing as though
they're not inverted? Seems like they'd be cracking, or
    denting pretty quickly.
Maybe someone here has them, or knows some info. How
about Mike himself? He's been playing them the longest. Any
    info would be appreciated.

       Take care,
      -Dave

I finally got myself this music. For a long time I was searching the
wild side of Steve Lukather and sensed I can find it in his project band
    Los Lobotomys.

I already had the Candyman, which is ummm, good, and shows the awesome
musicianship but the music itself contains too much ballads. So now I
got the first Los Lobotomys CD and Greg Mathiason Project - Baked Potato
Super Live!, which are more or less the same line-up.

BUT, I was pissed off when listenign the track 3 from LL CD - Purple
Haze. Steve just starts singing and then what you hear is like the CD
jumps at the end of the song, Steve say Thank you to the audince and
track finishes, track 4 continues. I THOUGHT the brand new CD jumped but
soon after saw that actuallyu the CD is pressed like that, the damn song
is only those 20 seconds or so. :(

Anyone else has this album? I got it from Japan, because most of this
    stuf is only Japanese release.
    Is it a mistake?

I don't know about jazz. I think maybe jazz fusion which is kind of a different thing
completely. I think he would have ended up as a jazz guy if Dream Theater hadn't
    taken off.
Chase up a copy of him doing this song Lost Without You. Its all over the net.
Its not exactly blues but same sort of thing. ts not exactly Stevie Ray Vaughan
or Albert King and it doesn't have the harmonic 'story telling' of BB King or Santana
but its some damn fine playing for a shredder if you ask me.

    Dear boys and girls:
I have 1 ticket for NEARfest available, because a friend backed out.
It's in the Orchestra section, so it's $72 (what I paid for it).
Which means that we ought to get a good view of Anna, Anekdoten's
cellist. (Schwing!) The buyer will need to figure out transportation
(unless you live on LI, in which case we can split gas and tolls) and
lodging. The show is Saturday, June 17th and Sunday, June 18th, in
Bethlehem, PA. (More info at http://www.nearfest.com/nearfest).

I have a serious Kevin Moore problem. I work for a company that is
contracted with AOL, and every so often, when someone starts spelling their
name and it's Kevin and the last name starts with M, I stop breathing for a
    second.

    It's so damn pathetic.

The e-mail that I sent to two of my close KevMo fan friends after I
pre-ordered the new Chroma Key album was very very
    9-year-old-girl-at-a-Backstreet-Boys-concert-like. I don't know why, it's
just this Kevin Moore problem that I have. Nobody or nothing else.

I even dedicated my e'zine to the guy: http://www.anada.net

I think I am sick and have some kind of disease, because I accidentally made

I picked up SUPER transatlantic, not be confused with Transatlantic
today. I was weary because I heard SUperdown (American Pie soundtrack)
but the record version is more beefed up. Its infectious groovy hard
rock, Jason's voice is as strong as ever, and you can really hear old SK
in it. As for Pat Badger I can't even recognize him in the picture. I
also picked up Spock Bear Day For Night today, I am VERY impressed with
    this band.

Symphony X's vocals can be considered operatic, although the singer doesnt go too high, he sounds more like eye of the tiger type vocals heh. The music is heavy power metal, with a touch of neo classical and prog. Spocks beard has these pleasant type happy 80's type of vocals, and the music is old school prog with lots of keyboard, its not heavy, its mostly happy sounding/being in a good mood type of music. Marillion, all ive heard sounds boring and puts me to sleep..

I've wanted to get into Tool for a long time. So now that I have some extra cash to blow, I bought The Aenima album. The album started pretty good, but then I got to the track entitled "Fotry Six and Two" and the first thing I noticed was that the intro starts out EXACTLY like "Home." In fact, the whole song does in a way. The song even has a growing instrumental in the middle similar (while nowhere near as cool) as the Home one. I grepped the ytse archives and noticed that one one other mention has been made of this. A jammer named Jason Birzer even made a little audio file comparing the two (http://members.aol.com/DarthMetze/study.mp3). Aenima came out in 1996, SFAM in 1999. Did DT rip off the riff? Has the band ever been asked about that in an interview?

I ask these questions just to get feedback. I know that some DT members are Tool fans, and as we all know, music isn't created in a vacuum. It's also a very basic riff, and I've heard it in a lot of songs. I'm not accusing DT of being unoriginal or anything, I'm just wondering if it's ever been brought up before. Any comments?

Now that you mention it, last weekend I let my friend listen to Home and he said the same thing. He couldn't remember which tool song it was, but i have Forty-six and Two on right now. That must have been the song he was talking about. It does sound like the exact same riff for awhile. You heard DT first and he heard Tool first and you both said the same thing. If DT didn't rip it off on purpose then that is pretty amazing cause they are so similar. And if they did, who cares. I wonder if DT has ever done any Tool covers. That could be interesting. -Tim

Indeed they did. Like singing out of key for the ENTIRE song (!)

for a good taste of hogarth try Made Again. It has a nice mix of songs on it AND brave =)

For Fish era Personally I'd recommend Misplaced Childhood and Script for a Jester's Tear. The last 2 Marillion CD's weren't that pleasing to my ears. But thats a matter of taste.

The new TSO album is pretty damn good to me, bout time they did something else besides xmas music. Speaking of Savatage I'd recommend Wake of Magellan and Dead winter Dead.

AFAIK Partha, there was a version of their first album with the song "Dream Dancer" on it. I *think* it was on the cassette version, but I'm not positive. The tune also appeared on the B-Side of the "Lonely" CD-Single. I don't think there were any other extra tracks associated with the first album other than that one. You may want to poke around their official website (www.crimsonglory.com) to see if you can find out any other info.

Two words. Holy Fucking Fuck !!

Having seen the Met2000 show a couple of times already, this show was a stunning surprise. I had to be one of the most outspoken critics of the recent shows but these concerns were addressed last night. Specifically, the multi-media showing of the new CD was at it height. Sadly, this will only be possible for the Japanese audiences.

The Japanese record company supports these guys to the hilt. One criticism of the Met2000 tour was that the multimedia presentation was not that effective with a bunch of 19 inch Sylvania Supersets plunked on top of the speaker towers. Well over here, they had a true full-size video screen behind them !! Yup, the size of the O:M tour !! What an amazing difference this makes. Everything looked so professional. Entirely a different world.

Secondly, they cropped a bunch of the more cheesie video portions from before and augmented this with live shots of the band on the video screen. Each member had a small camera placed near them and this was fed - realtime - to the large screen. These cameras were very unobtrusive - it looked like a small microphone these tricky Japanese ..... Some of these live shots were even processed realtime with video effects. This worked really well. They left the better portions of the original video basically responding to feedback from prior tourdates.

Lastly, they modified the introduction and used a tape of James singing the intro. It was just JP and Jordan playing in low lights before the Overture started. I think that this worked very well. This allowed for a more dramatic opening to the show than previous shows which is a big plus in my book. I think that each show should start with a bang. It really helps to get the crowd involved. They could have gone even one step further and open like they do with with Crimson Sunrise (all taped) but this was still cool.

    Some random thoughts:

    1) For the life of me, I cannot fathom how polite the Japanese crowds are. When Jordan plays an acoustic piano bit, you couldn't hear a peep from the crowd.

    2) They dont sell beers at the venue. Yucko. Parched throat. May help to explain #1, above.

    3) A similar thing was done with THE whereby the drums in the beginning were taped. This didn't go over as well because to me, MP should have been playing it. As a bonus, the song was extended a bit which was cool. JP wanked a bit at the end and kind of killed the mood of the song but hey, are you going to tell the cheetah not to run ??

    4) Not being a proponent of medleys, after the 100 minutes of Met2 I wasn't keen on the remaining 30 minutes being filled with *two* (count 'em) of the suckers. The first was a mush of stuff from Awake/ACOS/LTE and the second was the same one from the European leg last fall. I understand that this was probably how they had to do this to get coverage from all albums after Met2, but I hope that future shows allow for more coverage of the back catalog. There is too much good stuff there.

This has to be the ultimate for the band in terms of a technical achievement. When they envisioned a multi-media show, this is what they had to have had in their best of dreams. It is just too bad that the only audiences that will see this are here in Japan.

As a nasty aside, the Jap version of THE is selling for US$20 breaking the Jap tradition of US$14 CD singles !! Yucko !!

    Cheers, Mark Metzger mmetzger@comversens.com

Well it's not just the blues that SRV has to offer. It was his playing attitude, chord selection, his rythmics, vibratos, bends.. One doesn't have to play a 12bar to get heavily influenced by these things. And John obviously IS, not just because he says so, but because it's obvious.
