I haven't heard the Mr. Bungle version, but the original by
T-Bone Burnett is hilarious and has some cool acoustic guitar in it.
Dr. Demento would occasionally play it.
Speaking of Dr. Demento, has anyone heard "Spliceway to Heaven"?
It's a very amusing "cover" of "Stairway to Heaven" which is actually
a bunch of other songs' vocals spliced together along with parts of
the original song to create the "Spliceway to Heaven". For example,
the word "lady" in "there's a lady who's sure" is from Styx's song
"Lady". I find it fun. I have a crappy recording of it from about 15
years ago and I've always wanted to get a decent sounding copy of it.
Dr. Demento said it was by the Splice of Life Faculty but never went to
print (probably for copyright reasons). It doesn't seem to be on any
of the Dr. Demento collections. Anyone out there have it?
