I'd guess that it depends how you consider yourself. Quite a few people here
belong to other lists and post on PM. Maybe those folks consider themselves
a 'teof'er or PM'er or whatever before a 'jammer - guess that just
illustrates the decline in 'prestige' of this list. There was a time when I
considered myself a 'jammer' above all, but it hasn't been like that in a
while.

Oh, what chaos I inspire. Seriously, I wasn't out to pick any fights. Quite honestly (and this is my OPINION, but then that pretty much goes without saying)(no, it does go without saying, now that I think about it) there are some really great bands on the schedule, and heaven knows when you'll EVER get the chance to see the likes of Evergrey and Pain of Salvation in this country again...so I just think that if you're a DT fan and you already listen to a lot of these bands, it's a no-brainer if you can swing it. If your're not already into them, and you don't have to sell one of your childeren to attend, it'd be well worth your time, unless you condsider everyone in DT's wake a 'clone'.
Someone said that DT is not the center of the musical universe, but I'll tell ya - their corner is getting pretty crowded, and while there's a lot of crap there, there's also a lot of very smart, very talented bands.
I'll also point to something sort of unrealted that just depresses the crap out of me. Some time ago, someone posted LTE I & II sales figures here, and they were something like 7,000 and 3,500, respectively. Huh? How the hell can DT sell 100,000 copies of an album and then turn around and sell 3,500 copies of LTE II? I'll tell you how...
I'd be willing to bet that a whole ton and a half of people who buy DT albums don't even KNOW there IS an LTE.
I know, I know, I'm preaching to the chior. I mean, 'net access is obviously the main way to be plugged into all this, I guess I just am tempted to lash out in frustration at the inability to widen the circle any further than our little relatively closed group of bitheads.
Ramble/rant over.
Oh - one more ProgPowerUSA thought. Glenn Harveston is a wonderful guy, and I mean that. So am I hyping the fest as a way to help progmetal fans AND Glenn? Guilty as charged.

I have two lists, one is a purchase this list, the other is a don't bother list. When I borrow something from a friend I do not make a copy, instead I add the artist to one list or the other. I do not make copies of full albums for friends but I will put a song or two from a bunch of different bands if they want to sample before buying. Boots of are a different story but I only copy boots of bands that don't forbid them. So far I have only made boot copies of DT stuff but that hasn't happened for a couple of years.

I can't believe that the name Godhead has been mentioned outside of my circle of friends haha. To me Godhead is this local band from D.C. that played in Phantasmagoria (now closed), Blackcat and the 9:30 club. When I went to their shows, there were just 30 people around. And now they have a song on the Blair Witch 2 soundtrack and they're touring with Manson. Who would've thunk it. If I ever hear them on the radio I'll scream! I can't believe they're actually on Napster. I've seen them a number of times live and they do put on an incredible show. It's very exciting and it's a lot heavier than what you hear on their albums. I'm going to see them on the Manson tour when they get to Virginia. I don't even care for Manson's music. Anyway, buy Power Tool Stigmata and Nothingness (their two albums). I've been waiting forever for their new one. I guess it's just a few more months now...

Yeah, it was a couple months back, in the August 2000 issue (the one with Darva Conger on the cover). This one wasn't about DT, though; it was about why Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame. :)
Incidentally, do comic books count? I've had about sixty-leven million letters published in most Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and various independent comics over the past 10 years. :)

NO. I don't use it at all, not because of hard disk/bandwidth limitations. Mainly because I prefer listening to samples, then buying the album(s) if I like what I hear, and actually going to live shows. Don't forget, there's radio. Some of you might say, "What...radio?!?!?" Lucky for me, I live in an area that has a good selection of radio stations... K-Rock, WSOU, WFUV, WNYC, WBGO, WDHA, etc... (NYC/NJ). I also peruse sites like launch.com, riffage.com, mp3.com; therefore I have no need for apps like Napster. Besides, there's better uses for my PC's...Quake III, C++, Photoshop, Linux, Firetalk (that's fun!)...
As I type this, I'm listening to the soundtrack from a SegaSoft game. Rocket Jockey. The surf guitar (CD audio) soundtrack features Dick Dale on guitar on many of the tracks. The game rules, too. It was released in 1996, so you should be able to pick it up inexpensively. (Got mine for $3.)

I'm not gonna touch the Progpower/prog bands thread, except to say that I think there's a helluva lot of emotion in Pain of Salvation's material. Shoulda got more pics of us instead of the band. Phil was there and at least one person wearing an OLD Ytsejam shirt -- if you're on the Jam still, sing out. I couldn't stop and chat because I was racing down to the stage for the start of the show.
Great show, a bit muted due to a low turnout (Moby was also in town the same evening, and that sellout show was announced first). John, from Ozrics, was at the DT show in London at the Apollo and enjoyed it muchly. :) Opening band were the familiar Star People, whose performance has either gotten better, or more familiar and less of a surprise. :)
I'm bound for the Charlotte show Thursday night -- I'll be wearing a DT shirt of some kind there. :)

That's a crying shame. The Phantasmagoria closing bit, I mean. Anybody know why? I saw a ton of excellent prog shows there: Flower Kings, Discipline, Gong/Porcupine Tree, Iluvatar. (And I would've gone to a lot more, had I owned a car during most of my time living near by.) It was easily one of the best venues I've ever been to: real up-close-and-personal, tables right up to the stage, pretty good sound system, and you could look through used CDs and dirt-cheap records before the concerts started. Man, all the good ones close...

Speaking of POS, I've been listening to their new album. Pretty dense. There's a lot to get your ears around in here. I like it, but so far not as much as the last one. I think they're going to win the longest song contest :-) I first checked POS out a few months ago, after all the talk about them on the jam. They are extremely cool - very unique. It does take a while to warm up to the vocals, but now I really dig them. Really worth checking out if you're looking for something a little different...
I also picked up Symphony X V (found both at a local Tower, amazingly). This is my first time hearing SX, and I'm pretty impressed. Definitely will pick up the rest of their albums. Thanks to the jam for some killer recomendations.
