the page you had posted here for the song. Can anyone send me the link?

    Hey guys
I remember some talk about a Kyuss rare/live recordings cd.
I saw one yesterday labeled best of Kyuss. Is that it?
Could recognize very few of the tracks though.
Then again i've only heard Sky Valley and the circus leaves town.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi everybody,
This is the first time in a long time I've posted cause my damn computer's
been down but I figured I'd give a quick recommendation for all you Tool
and/or Perfect Circle fans out there. On the Deftones new album, White Pony,
there is a great track which Maynard James Keenan lays vocals on, called
"Passenger." So if ya get the chance do yourself a favor and get this song
off that Napster thing. I'm pretty sure that you will dig it if you already
like Tool/Perfect Circle. In fact, better yet buy the whole CD as I have
done, but at least get that one track.

okay guys, here's what I did this weekend, and I'm going to go intor
some details so all you mmmmMETAL fans as clueless as me with car audio
or electronics will see that you can most likely do this stuff.

first I put in a pair of alpines for the front speakers. I knew I was
going to do the head unit so I figured this way it'll sound that much
better when I do. But i was curious to see if the speakers would sound a
whole lot different on their own. Answer: nope. But it was easy to do,
even for me. I did have to splice the speaker wires to the car's wires
since the connecter didn't fit even though the stocks were also
alpines. so i cut off the connectors and twisted the proper wires
together, put the new speakers back in the door, done.

So then I went and got the head unit - one of them Sony "xplod" deals -
We all know sony's rep on consumer goods, so I got the 4-year warranty
with that item. but i wanted it because it had the most wattage of all
the units on the wall, 50 per speaker. And, it is a really cool lookin'
unit folks. red and shiny! plus, instead of a typical tape deck where
you just put the tape in, the tape bay is hidden - you have to press a
button and the whole face flips down, as though it were detaching - and
then you put the tape in behind the face. it's damn cool and it was
$140. And, the guy at best buy was a DT fan. so there you go.

whoever said installing a head unit was easy is out of their mind. it
was straightforward and not to complex, i'll say that. But I had to
remove chunks of dashboard to get to the thing, and then there's the
wiring, which puzzles me. Not the wiring itself, which was easy but
time-consuming, but the thinking behind it. whenever you get a new radio
for your car, you have to get a wiring harness made for your car, which
on one side plugs into your car and on the other side plugs into your
radio. except it doesn't plug right into the radio, I guess because
there would be too many combinations if you had to select a wiring
harness with your car on one side AND your radio model on the other. So
you have to splice 10,000 wires on each side. Now what I want to know
is, why can't they just put a little connector on the end of all those
wires on the radio, and the other half of the connector on the wiring
harness wires, so I wouldn't have to spend my life cutting, stripping,
splicing, and crimping??? just a thought.

but it wasn't a big deal, and it is color coded so anybody can do it.
actually, that proves that my idea is possible! if they can make those
color codes an industry standard, then what about my connectors?

anyway, I put the thing back in the dash and it sounds REALLY GOOD. So
thanks to everyone who advised me!

I had to ask a few questions of course, including the one I asked on the
jam last week but also I bought the speakers from a mom 'n' pop - NOT
the mall. that way, a half-hour later when I realize I don't know what
the hell i'm doing, i can call them and ask a question or two. good luck
    doing that at sears.

    so there you go.

Lo these many years the question has been beset upon us of the council of
young shredi elders ("OOOH a PARADOX" - Emo); for that which is a greater
string would imply greater individual mastery, and a higher degree of
shredcraft. But no, for no clear answer can be made. Only can one hope,
upon tallying records of past events, to gleen the true string and pick for
    proper wankology.

With humble intentions, I shall offer my guidance, though I be only a
student of the arts, and not yet a master.

It has come to my attention in 12 years that .009 is the most common
equipment hosted by the shred weapon of choice. It is, however, a fact that
many a great shredder will stray to the heavy or the light... Becker and
Helmerich for instance, opting for the .008 and Zakk Wylde and Steve Morse
choosing .010 and above. What does this mean to us, the apprentices and
    journeymenpeople of the art?

Go with whatever the fuck works, my son. Seriously though... .009 is the
most versatile... you can do everything on .009. .010 sounds a bit better
to my ear on strats than .009s and .008 is a bit on the super light side,
but if you're just now learning legato and 8 finger tapping, it will save
you a lot of pain. I recommend alternating after a couple months. Go from
009 to .010 as an exercise in strength and adaptation. When I started 8
finger stuff, I swapped over to .010 just to make it harder. And I don't
use very low action (though I may go back to it).

Picks are another story. It will benefit you a TON to move to heavy picks.
You want to control every nuance of every note with your WRIST, and not with
the assumed flexibility of a pick. You KNOW when you push a thick pick
through a string. You can easily misjudge the accuracy of when a thin pick
is going to give its way through a string. I would have to say out of
hundreds of professional shredders, about 95% probably use heavy picks.
That's very important. All of your control is right there.

    Hope this helped!

    - Chris

This is where I strongly believe that string gauge is 100% personal
preference. I use 10's, and have zero problem playing fast. How high is your
action set? I set mine fairly high, (not sure of the exact height, but
compared to any other guitarist guitar I've played, it's fairly high. Almost
like playing an acoustic. I like to be able to 'feel' the string underneath
me, and it definitely helps with bends.) I know that when I play a guitar
with lower action, I can play much faster, (Even exact same model guitars,
    just different set-ups).
People often pick up my guitar, and I hear, "Holy shit man, your
action's high!" I play a lot cleaner and smoother with high action.

Here's a good example of string gauge not having anything to do with speed.
Look at Stevie Ray Vaughn. Now, he's not classified as a shredder, but I tend
to put him in the 'blues shred' category. He can really play some fast lines
if you listen, and he was using 13's.

If you want to get faster, I'd try lowering your action, just to give it a
whirl, if that does nothing........get out the metronome. :-)

I checked out GuitarWar.com and I absolutely loved it. I heard quite a few
guitarist on there who can wipe the floor with me, and use the leftover dirty
water to clean their guitars with afterwards, but I still registered and am
going to be buying some software to make some Mp3's just to join in on this
    for the fun of it.
I remember getting AOL like 4 or 5 years ago, and going into Music Chats
and Guitar Chats, and there'd always be some punk-ass little shit in there,
saying, "Steve Vai can suck my dick, Cobain could waste him any day....and so
could I.". And I'd get so pissed off and I'd seriously try to set-up a
head-cutting duel with the idiot. (I was in the 6th or 7th grade..leave me
alone :-) ) And I think now with GuitarWar.com, you've got the PERFECT
chance to back up your words.

So now when I'm sitting in the Vai.com Vai Chat, and some idiot starts
telling me how he can outshred Chris Impelliteri, or anyone for that
matter...I'll direct him over to GuitrarWar.com and tell him to prove it.
It's a great site. Serious or not, it's fun. I know I can't wait to get
started, even if I totally suck, I'll be striving to get a little better,
just so I can see all the people type in, "EvoReaper, killer Mp3 man, etc etc
    etc...".
Another great option of being online....

    My $.02:
anything smaller than 10's (or some light top/heavy bottom type-thing based
around 10's) are for weenies. Anything smaller and your tone suffers, and
the strings break EXTREMELY easily. Fatter string=phatter tone. SRV used
12's or 13's, and he had just about the best tone ever. I use D'Addario
11's, hardly ever break a string, have ballsy tone, and have no problem
bending the strings and doing vibrato (and I'm not a real strong guy). Who
cares how many more notes you can play with 9's if the overall sound is
    better with 10's?
