You can download the Scour Media Exchange, which is available at
Scour.net. It's similar to Napster (I don't know if it uses the same port
or not, though), in that you can download and search for MP3s, but you can
also download pictures and video files, as well.

John M - Vocals (fuck if that wouldn't surprise us!)
    Jordan - bass
    John P - keyboards
    Mike - Guitar

Yeah! Come on Mike, if you're listening, do this! We could actually hear JM
say something... Unless he'd sing stuff like "I'm feeling kinda spooky" and
"Hey there" "See ya" (From the christmas cd... that was hilarious)...

      The second is called Tie
Your Mix Down (2000, a play on the phrase "tie your mother down")
and is the afforementioned mix of rap and metal. It's kinda funny,
actually, much like the rap remix of Rush's Tom Sawyer. James
LaBrie does the vocals on 2 of the Tie Your Mix Down songs. Be sure
to listen with an open mind. :)

This one is on the Cleopatra label. They've been putting out a lot of
remix cds lately, mostly of 80's New Wave like Berlin, Missing Persons,
and Flock of Seagulls. <(I like this one) They also put out Marillion's
    Tales From the Enginge Room.

    >LOL, is there a musician who died of natural death and

    Bob Marley.

Dude, don't you watch VH-1? The CIA injected him with cancer.

       The KLF.
Maybe I'm out of the loop, but the only song I can even
think of by them is that one starts "The KLF is gonna rock ya".

      King Crimson.
Um, thier not dead, are they? :)

Has anyone bought the new Tap DVD yet? Maybe someone
could post a small review of it.
The reason I ask is that I already own the Criterion
Collection version, and was wondering if it's worth getting
the new one for it's extras. The Criterion version is very
good and has two commentary audio tracks, as well as over
      an hour of unused footage.

I hate it when they do that. They're like on the 5th
version of T2. How many times do they expect us to buy it???!

Oh, but it's so much more subtle than that...
There's actually three parts -- The intro into AFIL from LATM, spliced
into the WDADU version (which I cleaned up, brightened, compressed a
bit, to match LATM as much as possible), and then a sample from a Ben
Folds Five concert. Okay, so it's lame, but I was kinda proud of it.

My girlfriend hates metal, so I stuck this on a mix CD at the beginning.

Anyway... the real stuff is what i wrote -- good press for prog
recently, good press for DT, Jordan keyboard solo should be classical
    Ytsejam. Blah.

You may return to your drudgery. I have spoken.

Not natural deaths or anything, but I just had to add the amusing fact that Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac have released so many albums since their deaths.

Oh they have more memorable hits like Last Train to Transcentral and
Justified and Ancient. I was never too fond of them but they were
completeley wacko. Just plain crazy. Gotta give 'em credit for

Being the Tap addict I am, I just HAD to preorder the DVD. And I suppose I'll write a few short notes/reviews about it. Well, first of all, it's TAP. IMO, that should be reason enough to buy the special edition. It is digitally mastered...yadda yadda yadda. One thing I did notice, however (I'm not sure if this is the case in the original VHS), is that they mastered it so the "concert" footage is MUCH louder than the dialogue. It actually got a little bit frustrating. Although considering they are "one of England's loudest bands," maybe they did this on purpose. There's a new interview with Rob Reiner, which is quite funny, and a bunch of original trailers and commercials that took various funny bits from the movie. There's over an hour of cut scenes, some of which are funny; a lot of which are boring. But I suppose that's what happens when you improvise most of the movie. All in all, it's worth getting, especially if you can get a good deal somewhere online. And it's TAP.

Well after reading the review of the DVD on dvdreview.com, I think I'm gonna have to go get this version. I do have the Criterion version, which I paid a ton fo money for, but this new one contains some new stuff too, and a better transfer. I guess the casual fan would be satisfied with one version. Also, the new one has commentary from Spinal Tap rather than the three actors as it did on the first one.

good choices. I think there are a lot of great musicians tho, particularly blues and jazz who still release great stuff, although normally its not much of a progression since they began. Here's a few of my favourites tho- Eric Clapton (went through a bad period but got back on track in the 90s) Coltrane (died kind of young, but kept getting better till the end) Steve Vai (still getting better, although he needs to move on I think now) Frank Zappa (considering the incredible amount of stuff he released, he did well) John Lee Hooker, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul Simon, Red Hot Chilli Peppers (one of the few 'early 90s' bands that still sound decent) sorry if that was too 'top 10'ish I wont do it again.

I've been behind lately and was just catching up on some past jams (yeah, I know -- slap me) A couple of people mentioned that they were from or around Baltimore, Marlyland. Has Hammerjacks -- the greatest rock club of all time -- been rebuilt yet!? For all those who aren't familir with it -- 'hamajax' was a small little rock club/bar (much the same like Jaxx in Springfield, VA, but with two floors and a baclcony all around the stage on the second floor. Great place. It was leveled a couple years back when the Washington Redskins decided to build a new stadium and they needed the land Hammerjacks was on for a F!cking parking lot. bye bye

There were talks to rebuild it -- anybody know or have heard of anything? Jaxx in Springfield has kind of taken there place as one of 'the' clubs to play at on the east coast but it would be nice to get a couple more up and going. I mean even the Bayou in Georgetown, DC was killed years ago....next it will be the 9:30...and then Jaxx

    sorry about the little rant...

    hey jammers,

I'm guessing there are quit a few guitarists on here -- any suggestions on a great acoustic? I'm sick of the electric thing and all crap you have to slug around just to play out and am looking for a nice acoustic guitar.... I've played a nice Gibson Chet Atkins SST, a Gibson SJ-200, a decent Taylor, but sadly haven't played an Ovation I like, the low E's always seem to sound muted and dead and I'm not a fan of the plastic bowl backing -- but maybe I'm wrong? Played a nice Alvarez studio type acoustic but have heard that Alvarez aren't worth the money. Any suggestions on what I should try!? I saw Vai playing a groovy little Carvin Acoustic for 'Fire Garden Suite' on tour this past year, and at G3 but haven't seen anything like it since. For now, let's say my limit is $1100.00

Any help is greatly appreciated, in the electric world I feel I really know my stuff, but in the Acoustic environs I'm just simply treading water. :)

I feel your pain on this one.......

Dallas had three excellent venues for Rock/Metal bands to play at for years..

The Agora Ballroom. This one was pretty famous as it had concrete molds of the hands of many world-class 70s-80s rock bands in proud display and 2 or 3 walls filled with graffiti from all those bands and more. It was an amazing display. Where has it gone? It changed into something else and I can't remember the new name..... That was where I saw my first Dream Theater concert of the Images & Words tour.

The Basement. This was a smaller club that I saw quite a few concerts at including Ugly Kid Joe, Yngwie Malmsteen, Outrageous (local Dallas band with a co-worker from my college days), and many many others. It closed down for a long time and I haven't been by there in a couple of years to see what it is now :(

Dallas City Limits. This one was my favorite of those 3. I saw another leg of the DT Images & Words tour and they moved the concert OUTSIDE "on that fateful moon-lit night..." :) The Galactic Cowboys opened. I'd seen many great concerts at that venue as well including Overkill, Jackyl, Stryper, My Dying Bride, PANTERA... Now it's a strip joint.

For roughly $600 - $800 I think the Martin D series is nice. I picked up a D-1 for around $650 and it sounds and plays great. It is only acoustic though, if you are looking for an acoustic/electric (like the Carvin model you mentioned) you'd have to either mic it or get a pickup for it. I also checked out the Larivee guitars, they sounded good ( a little louder than the Martin) it seemed a little harder to play (maybe the action was higher), but that's all personal preference.

I'll second that declaration. Hammerjack's was a superior rock club. And it was by no means small, at least not by Balt./Wash. rock club standards. It was a very sad day when the wrecking ball took it from us. I saw too many concerts there to remember them all, but I specifically remember a relatively off night for OFB there back in '95(?). I also used to go there and see a friend's band called Mannekin. They did a mean version of Frankenstein. Still have one of their shirts. heh

    > It was leveled a couple years back when the Washington Redskins decided to build a >new stadium and they needed the land Hammerjacks was on for a F!cking parking lot. >bye bye

That was the Baltimore Ravens that needed the real estate for parking.........for their big purple stadium(Now PSINet Stadium).

    > > There were talks to rebuild it -- anybody know or have heard of anything?

I haven't heard a single word about rebuilding........would be nice.

    >Jaxx in Springfield has kind of taken there place as one of 'the' clubs to play at on the >east coast but it would be nice to get a couple more up and going.

Considering the owner of Jaxx is barely making a go of it now, I doubt there will be any kind of mad rush to construct rock clubs in this area. There just is not the fan base to support it. Go to Jaxx some night when there are about 30 paying patrons(which is most nights when there is no national act), and you'll see what I mean. Rik Emmett of Triumph drew about 50. Bands like OFB, KingsX and Fates Warning usually don't sell out till the day of the show, and the place MIGHT hold 5-600(someone correct that figure if it's off, I'm really not sure).

    > I mean even the Bayou in Georgetown, DC was killed years ago

Another sad day. I saw my FIRST DT concert there, back in '93. Still one of the greatest shows I've ever seen, just because it was so astounding that I had found this band, and they actually played a local club, and they actually could reproduce what was on that groundbreaking CD. I still get chills thinking about it. Plus the fact that my now deceased best friend was there with me, but that's a whole other story........

    >....next it will be the 9:30

Maybe not. They seem to have a pretty good thing going there. My fingers are crossed, but I think they're doing well.

    >...and then Jaxx

Well, contrary to what I said above about barely making a go of it, Jaxx has somehow managed to hang in there all these years, and I have faith in Jay, though I can't say for sure why..... :)

    > > sorry about the little rant...

Hey, no prob, gave me an excuse to post....

    I'm done. Kez

Hey there Hi there Ho there!

I recently bought the new Spock's Beard and it kicked my ass! For me, that's "new music" because i was born in 1979 and i don't know bands of the 70's (i know rush, yes, led zep, but that's all). So i was wondering which 70's bands would be close to Spock's Beard's attitude and sound? SB is funny, and i don't find Rush or Yes very funny. They are great, but not funny.

For me, an example of a funny 70's song would be the song of "that 70's show", by Cheap Trick. I don't know the guy, are his other songs as cool as this one?

    thanks
